Virtua Fighter Five for 360 to feature Online Play

In a surprise move that many thought would never happen, Microsoft owned up to hardware failures! Also in a surprise move, Sega announced that Virtua Fighter 5 for Xbox 360 will, indeed, have online multiplayer. You can beat up your buddy in another city and see how bad you are on the leaderboards! The game will be released this August.

“For a lot of very good reasons, Virtua Fighter 5 is regarded as the deepest and most revered fighting game available on next generation consoles”, says Gary Knight, the European marketing director for Sega Europe. “Bringing Virtua Fighter 5 to the Xbox 360 will not only capture an entirely new audience, but will allow gamers to show their Virtua Fighter skills online against friends and foes.”

I sort of felt deep in my soul that this would happen, but I didn’t want to believe in it too much, for fear that my heart would be broken. Many fighting game fans will sound off about lag issues, I’m sure. But we’ll have to wait and see when the game ships. Why the Playstation 3 version was released without multiplayer is cause for discussion. Thoughts?
