Our good friends Matt and Ryan are working on their new project, and they’re curious to get feedback from the community about what you liked, what you didn’t like, and maybe just what flew over your head during the 1up Show’s esteemed tenure. You can give them feedback at binaryburrito@me.com. Be constructive, be kind, and hey, while you’re at it, why don’t you help them out by donating at talkingorange.com. Keep your eyes peeled, as they’ll be announcing the name of their new project soon. I can’t wait to hear it.

I absolutely found the sort conversational method of talking about games to be really neat. I would have loved to have seen perhaps three smaller segments over the course of the week perhaps. The reason I bring this up, is because it can take a very long time to download a full episode on itunes, but if it was broken up into three smaller it could be much easier to watch as you put it up. Plus, your sponsors get more out of it.

  2. Chachi says:

The 1up Show was great as is! Change nothing, just let us know what we can do to help it get up and running again!!

  3. Totally awesome. I’m really looking forward to this. I adored the 1UP Show.

  4. Aegies says:

Excellent guys. I hope you’re emailing too.

  5. I always really liked the segments where… uh.

    I liked all the segments.

  6. Mike D. says:

I was going to write it out in the comments, but I just sent off an email instead.

Great work, and good luck to all you guys.

  7. oddhead says:

I love the game talk guys. The thing I love the most though is you guys don’t show lot of gameplay in your preveiw and review vids and I like that. I want to see the previews and reviews but I don’t want to ruin certain parts of alot of games like MGS4 and Gears2.

  8. scott s says:

    i loved everything 1up
just bring the same casual element to it

  9. Bill says:

Loved the 1up show as it was. But I’m begging you to make something like Broken Pixels, that was the funniest stuff I’ve ever seen about terrible video games.

  10. Matt Reid says:

    it was perfect

  11. Joey says:

I liked the length, i liked that it was about and hour or more. Each episode is worth watching and i hope you keep the style you had in the 1up show with the segments, casual discussions around the office or outside :) And the little story lines you had going through the whole thing that concluded at the end of the show were fun too ^^. Keep it up!

  12. Aaron says:

Among all of the internet and TV shows about video games, it was the best.

I liked that there was lots of in-game footage and intelligent discussion to go with it.

  13. Ryan says:

Loved the 1up show, and I agree with Broken Pixels….. you guys had me in tears at times.

The casual, real game conversations is what made this show…… you really gave the feeling of just hanging with a group of friends and talking about games.

I don’t usually like to pay for these sites (Ign and gamespot bullshit VIP crap) but you guys are awesome and I will support you guys.

    VIVA THE 1UP SHOW !!!!!!

  14. Steve says:

I liked the game segments in general, but the office skits were incredibly unfunny and a waste of time. I also think you guys go overboard on the color saturation or whatever it is that you do — makes it seem too amateurish.

  15. osakajack says:

Have to disagree on the office skits…they were funny in the way that people who clearly aren’t actors are funny. And they added sauce to the game segments. So, I’d leave in all of the segments and put a personal polish to it this time around. (for ex, the moments when there was a casual roundtable talk about a particular game that usually ended off topic, that was cool.)

  16. Zach T. says:

My favorite discussions were ones where there were at least 3-4 people talking about what points were make-or-break for the game in discussion. I’d MUCH rather listen to someone voice their opinion verbally and in a group setting, than alone and toward an anonymous internet crowd.

Specifically, keep the settings varied for game discussions. I loved seeing the SF4 discussion at the guy’s homemade SF4 arcade. Also, try to vary who talks to whom about different genres. I’ll enjoy 2 fighting game superfans talking about their favorite PPPK combos, but I also REALLY appreciate it when there’s someone in the mix who doesn’t necessarily fit the genre and might be coming at it from a “new-guy” perspective, or hasn’t played it in a long time. For example, it was interesting to hear how Anthony Gallegos approached Chrono Trigger, it being his first JRPG to date.

I really appreciate all the work that was put into creating the show, guys. Anything you can do to vary the perspectives and diversify the discussions would create an even more incredible show than what you already had.

    Good luck!

  17. Zach T. says:

Also, keep the longer episodes. Many small episodes require me to have to mess with my iPod more than I want to. Just a thought!

  18. adesolatenation says:

I love the 1UP show. Shorten them, though.
I would rather download a ten minute segment than a thirty minute segment. Loved all the segments.

I thought the conversational method was perfect. I love the original aesthetics of the first couple 1UP review video segments.

Keep it casual. Keep it shorter. Keep it personal. Keep special features and don’t always just search for the latest.

Shorter. It takes like four hours for me to download it and I never watched most of them because of it. SHORTER.

  19. apoc_reg says:

I dug the parts where people are having roundtable (or rather sat in offices on availible chairs/desks!) talking about games that i’ve already played. eg now that i’ve finished fable id like to here/see the opionions of the 1up show crew on what they thought etc.

Along with obviously chats to guys in the industry about upcoming/current stuff.

…would also like a bit more attention for the PC!

  20. apoc_reg says:

Oh yeah and im way more likely to freely pay for it if its availible in HD!

  21. xrayzwei says:

An idea: I’m not sure how much preview access you’ll have, since that was kind of 1up show bread and butter, but what I’d like to see is Backlog in a video format like the 1up show. It would be sweet to see video of the stuff you guys were talking about because not all of us can participate, but still like the banter.

  22. jason10mm says:

I liked the office skits, but if you guys can’t think of a good one in time, just skip it for that show. I’d rather have no skit “backdrop” for a show than a bad one. The roundtable segments, particularly when sitting at a restaurant or someplace outside, were the most interesting to me. San Fran is such a beautiful city, exploit it!! I’m sure it is a PITA for audio though :)

  23. Pasha says:

1: Keep the theme song, or find a good replacement… preferably from the same band.
2: Keep the length and general layout. The 1up Show was my favorite show, TV or not.
3: Keep the personal touches like the SF4 road trip for example.
    4: KEEP ROCKING
5: Get advertisers, or make available pay-for content… along IGN lines… I may prefer 1up, but I have dropped the 19.99 on IGN yearly… not sure why, but there you have it.
6: If the Eps are made shorter than jsut have more episodes that are more focused… maybe one ‘show’ a week that goes along the Broken Pixels vein or borrows a page from Parish in structured segments focusing on retrotastic goodness as in the Retronauts podcast or the Bonus Stage video segments.
7: Live long and prosper… Pay your rent, and live happy lives, hopefully ones that include a rebirth of the 1up Show like a Phoenix rising from the ashes (the pretty bird kind, not the Evil Jean Grey version…)

And now that I’ve said my piece, I. Am. GHOST!

  24. Paul says:

Would be interested in seeing more features outside of game reviews/previews, which couldn’t have been much better imo!

And I know it’d prove even more difficult now, but I’d love to see more developer interviews or discussions with.

The one off (not 1up show per se) were you had a few developers (Wolpaw, Dylan Cuthbert and Jonathan Mak) at a restaurant together was really great, if too sombre and overly polite! The only downside was the editing and the hosting, but I assume this wasn’t the regular 1up show crew?

  25. Matt O. says:

When you have an interview of a person, call the segment “random encounter”.

  26. Emporerwang says:

You guys kick ass!! Sorry to hear about EGM.Glad to know some of you are back to podcasting so soon.

  27. Krautch says:

What I loved about the 1up Show was that it was just smart gamers talking, just talking like gamers, about games. I work at a game store, and one of the best things about it is just listening to people talk about games that they’ve been playing. When you do a review you have to be, obviously, professional and meticulous about what you’re saying, and there’s a rigidity that can’t be thrown aside. This is a good thing in reviews, but reviews leave little room to just say, “Holy shit that one part where you have to x is freaking awesome” or “I love when you get the y weapon and have to do z.” I love smart people just celebrating or complaining about games in a way that is “real.” Feelings and visceral reactions often don’t play into reviews, but sometimes I just want to hear dudes or dudettes react to what they just played.
