We’re in the works of buying new podcast equipment. We picked up a new mixing board, mic stand, and compressor today, but are still a ways off from finished. Once we have the full, finalized list of equipment we purchase I’ll post pictures and specs on what we went with.
In the meantime I need to start playing some games so that I can start writing about them again! New Dawn of War Beta impressions coming soon. Other games you’d be interested in hearing about?
Empire: Total War
Men of War (I’m sensing a motif here)
APB
might be interested in helping with motion graphics, titles or something if you guys ever do something with video again. let me know
Tales of Valor, since CoH is something I keep meaning to get in to, but even buying it didn’t make me play for too long. Tales of Valor interests me greatly, though, and it’ll be the breaking point for me to pick up the first expansion as well.
I’d like to hear impressions on Halo Wars. I know the Halo franchise has had a bit of over-saturation and it is easy to poo-poo the game due to this failing the brand has, but I had heard good things, and really like Ensemble type games. I am also curious of the development of RTS on consoles. It is clear they cant’ be direct ports from the PC. Nor can they bee as close, control scheme wise, to their PC brethren.
I’d love, love, love to hear your thoughts on some free indie games that have been making the rounds, all are free and easy to finish in a single sitting.
http://www.kongregate.com/games/GregoryWeir/the-majesty-of-colors
A short browser game that puts you in control of a curious underwater creature.
http://www.nekogames.jp/mt/2008/01/cursor10.html
Another short browser game based around clicking the mouse but with the experimental joy that made portal so much fun.
http://www.blendogames.com/files/gravitybone.zip
And lastly a quake2 engine spy game that brings to mind Grim fandango and Team Fortress 2 and yet it’s unlike anything I can think of.
I hope you check these out even if you don’t get a chance to talk about them, hopefully they’ll cheer you up during this rough period.
Are you guys gonna post numbers of donations like talking orange did? You must have got more then them seeing as most people were cleared out by the time there donation link went up
Midnight Club LA For PS3 and 360
I would like to hear more about last years games that sold really bad and got little attention in media, but are in fact very good games, like Valkyria Chronicles for example. That game was awesome. I cant believe that we will never see sequel.
Aaah great! I’m glad you guys fixed podcast gear.. or should I say Gear of Podcast to make it more geeky?
Anyways, I would love to hear about Football Manager 09. I’m not sure you guys have covered it yet or maybe you just hate football. But good lord…. its an AWESOME game
Otherwise it would be nice to either bring up what the spring will give us or maybe a followup on AoC and Warhammer. How are they doing against the old mighty WoW? We hear its bad but how bad is it?
Ooooh I know! iPhone games! Talk more about that. Seems to be the new hot machine for gaming and that locoroco ripoff seems nice enough.
One last thing, will there be a show for Rebel FM? I loved 1up show so lets hope so
Diablo 3, Heavy Rain, Infamous, Star Wars MMORPG. Just a few I’m interested in. Great to hear you all again.
I just heard about the upcoming Source Engine game by Arkane Studios, The Crossing. It looks great for an ageing engine and has some really unique ideas. Hopefully it gets some playtesting before release, which DM:M&M badly needed.
Any more info on this game would be cool, haven’t seen much mention of it by the big gaming sites.
Lord of the rings Conquest
I want to hear more about WoW WotLK! I just can’t get enough of it, more more more…
How about Demigod?
It’s supposed to be coming out in the next couple months, and I’ve yet to hear anything of the game outside greater gameplay concepts.
Lord of the Rings Conquest
Afro samurai
Galaga, Asteroids and this really hard game called Pole Position. Man, that had realistic graphics. Are they gonna make an MMO of that, Pole Position? I think I read that in one of the previews at 1up. I might be wrong.
(sorry, couldn’t help myself and everyone has made good suggestions already.)
I don’t know if we’re posting specific #’s as far as a total (it’s still going, after all), but we’re going to definitely not keep it a secret as to how we spend it on equipment. As of right now, equipment is the only expenditure we’re looking to use any donation money on…with the idea that we could use it to start up merch or possibly other things to help back the site long term. We’re looking into lots of things and will have more to say about the cash soon.
I would be curious about the crew’s Valkyria Chronicles impressions as well. The game still needs more exposure.
It would be great if you could clarify if you’ll continue to have access to preview code of games or early review copies in general as well. It’s no use asking to hear about games you don’t have privileged access to anymore in case you’ve been cut off since you had to leave 1UP.
All I really want to hear that I don’t hear you talk enough about is CoH. I love that game, and I love hearing anecdotes from your play sessions. Plus, With Tales of Valor coming up, any new info you could scrounge up on that would be greatly appreciated.
How about some write ups on older games, like you guys were always saying you wanted to do on the podcasts? I’d love to read a piece on the nature of the CoH MP community and maybe some more in depth tips for new players (as someone who finally bought a copy in the steam sale), possibly with a link in about Tales of Valor.
Some industry perspective discussion would be good, such as: the evolution of games ‘journalism’ or various genres, developers, publishers, etc; or some peer review style essays/ articles
A huge sum of of the Eat.Sleep.Game gaming philosophy would be sort of awesome…
Is there any specific reason you’re not going to let us know what’s come in via donations? Is it because you feel if you tell people, most will think, “Well, that’s enough.” and donations will stop coming in?
Games i’d like some commenting on:
GoW 3
KZ2
I am alive
Uncharted 2: AT
M.A.G.
RE5
Heavy rain
CoD:MW2
I’m suprised that no one mentioned Dragonage: Origins. I can’t get enough details about the game thats being touted as the, “Spiritual successor to Baldurs gate II.”
Ya, I was thinking Dragon Age also, but if we are talking about a game that is coming out then I would really like to see your takes on Killzone 2. Mainly the single player campaign. I’m really curious to see how that pans out.
i would really like to hear some back log, i have missed out on alot of games lately and would love to hear some hands on experience with the games, mainly like oct nov when like every week big games came out.
Dawn of War 2 is an interesting one. It’s not quite the same as the first game. They’ve streamlined certain things from CoH.
It actually reminds me a lot of World In Conflict in tactical engagements and movement of your units.
I think DoW 2 essentially will be a rather dvisive game…where the purists from the firt game will hate it and those that may not have played the previous one might dig it.
Love to hear what you think of it…I can;t wait to play the open beta
Another vote for Tales of Valo(u)r
I would really like to hear something/anything about Prototype. It seems like this game isn’t getting much attention so far, and it looks REALLY good. Seeing as only little tidbits here and there have come out since the feature in Game Informer I’m hoping it’s not pushed back. Guess I’ll have to do some searching to make sure the 4/1 release date is still holding up.
The Conduit, Dragon Quest IX, Yakuza 3, Heavy Rain, Bionic Commando, Outrun Online Arcade, Flower, status update for NXE – what are avatars going to be used for, any planned additions, etc, Sin & Punishment 2… Thanks for keeping us posted on what you’re up to, you guys are awesome!
I would love to hear your wish list for Diablo 3, your impressions of the new Skate 2 and what you are playing to take the edge off right now
1) I’ve always loved the “Best Games no one played” thing, as it was how I found out about Beyond Good and Evil, and Psychonauts. What was everyone’s choice for 2008? (Valkyria hands down for me, and others in here it seems).
2) Any good grief-ing stories as of late? Those are always good for a laugh
3) it’s not a game, but it’s a computer thing –> Any of you tried out Windows 7?
wouldn’t mind hearing some more about Street Fight 4 only bcuz I want you to take down Arthur! Maybe somemore about Chrono Trigger when/if you finish or get farther. The other titles listed by others sounds great too.
Would be possible to do something with occasional Good Grief anecdote, once a month or something. There were one or two good ones when that first got started.
The World Ends With You
Yakuza 1 or 2
Persona (any game)
If at all possible i would love to hear some about Cryostasis, upcoming Ukrainian FPS.
FEAR 2 demo is out or out soon on all platforms I think. Anything on that?
I wouldn’t mind hearing the thoughts you had on The Witcher that never made it into the last Lan Party podcast.
Also Crayon Physics Deluxe and perhaps Kings Bounty
Bionic Commando seems to be getting overlooked, but perhaps there just isn’t much to say/tell yet. It’s one game I’m really looking forward to this year.
Also Valkyria Chronicles. I haven’t heard much, but the little I’ve heard about it indicates it’s a must-play.
A few more, as info becomes available: Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, Dawn of War 2, Dragon Age.
Love the shows, past, present and future, and am anxiously looking forward to what comes next.
Just how much access do you guys have to pre-release games now?
With the recent economic slowdown i have been looking for value games. If there was a way you could provide a list, and small review of good $10-20 games, that would be appreciated.
I know i should take a look at steam, but i’m never sure if the games i want to play/buy are worth it. This request also applies to PSN/XBLA games.
Off the top of my head i am curious about:
-Defence grid: The Awakening (steam)
-Savage moon, which i don’t believe is out yet (PSN)
-Any new info about Starcraft 2
Since it’s kinda slow at the beginning of this year….until February….maybe you guys could talk about some games that you are just getting to that slipped through the cracks of the holiday rush.
Chuf: would like to hear more Chrono Trigger impressions if you’ve got ’round to lending a copy of it yet. The JRPG from the first time players perspective is very interesting.
Other than that, just go with what you’re all into. Random griefing stories would be fun too.
I do the video game reviews for my school newspaper. Is there any games that you could recommend me to review for the next two or three months? Just to let you know, I’m reviewing Prince of Persia right now.
I’m seconding the request for WotLK stuff! Even just a little?
I’d like to hear the must haves for each console or genre. For the post-Christmas, have a $30 gift card for GameStop but no idea what to get other than the stuff that just came out that is still full price.
Or World of Goo. Because nobody can talk about that game enough.
Valkyria Chronicles
I just got the game and its doing lots of things right that Japanese developers need to take note of. Though at first glance it looks like a typical JRPG (which can intimidate some), it surprisingly has a lot of depth, and a good balance of action and strategy.
The only way this game will sell and make a name for itself is by word of mouth, and what better mouth than yours Chuff.
Killzone 2
thoughts on Quake live?
Good luck for you guys and your families in the future after this loss. We’ll keep supporting you guys no matter what!!!
+1 for some CoH and Tales of Valor love!
More dawn of war stuff, skate 2, and champions online.
Left 4 Dead (I know its old) and perhaps update on Quake Live?
Not directly related to this post but I just had to point out that though REBEL FM has dropped to #6 on iTunes overall list (still fucking incredible) it is still more popular than Oprah (well all but one of Oprah’s podcasts.) I’m excited to see what happens after episode 2 posts!
As far as games I’d love to see some writing about:
Afro Samurai
The Maw
The new Fable 2 DLC
The new Fallout 3 DLC
The new Castle Crashers DLC
Little Big Planet Levels – (Even though for many the charm of this game has worn off – My girlfriend and I still can’t get enough. The quality of some of the stuff out there is completely insane.)
Darksiders
I’ll stop there.
Any news on Chronicles of Riddick:Assault on Dark Athena? I know it’s releasing soon and I’d love to hear some info. on it.
Motorstorm: PR never got enough time in the sun due to the holidays, take that one on.
If you talk about DoW2, could you mention anything about the rumors that it will only ship with 5 multiplayer maps and no support for 2v2 (other than dropping slots in a 3v3 game on 3v3 maps)?
Infamous, mostly.
Is there any other news on “I am Alive” than the trailers that were shown at E3? I still have no idea what kind of game it will be, it just looks damn awesome.
Pretty much has been said about L4D except this: http://www.l4dmaps.com/details.php?file=17
RebelFM just slipped from 1st on iTunes, come on everyone post some reviews!
I would love to hear some talk about fallout 3. Im playing through it right now and totally loving it. Want to hear what you guys think.
Just lettin gyou guys know rebel FM is up on the Zune Marketplace!
I was just talking about Fat Princes with my friend. How about that?
Hotel for Dogs for Wii.
In all seriousness, I’d like to add my vote for Lord of the Rings: Conquest. I’m curious to hear how that is.
- Fat Princess
- BG&E2
- Mount & Blade
- Uncharted 2
- Killzone 2
- Heavy Rain
- Dragon Age
- Some news about 360 exclusives.
Just find some wacky stuff and have some fun. The one reason why I always loved listening to Shawn Elliot talking about games never had to do with the actualy but the stuff he did and the story telling style(greifing) and insightful way way he talked about all games in general. Even the flash games on instantaction.
Already listened to and loved episode 2. Really glad to hear you guys arent just descending into depression.
What I’d like to know, Mr. Anthony, is if you are stilll playing COH. I finally got a computer that could run it and Im wondering if it still holds up these days even though its…what, a year and a half old?
Many thanks! Keep up the good work.
Here is the shortlist:
Fallout 3 DLC
Little Big Planet
Dragon Age (Baldur’s Gate 3?!?!)
Dawn of War 2 beta
Starcraft 2? (That 20 minute terran vs protoss match was awesome, has anyone talked about it)
WoW – Wrath content. Last I heard, Chuf was 67 and not in Northrend. C’mon! ;P
Actually, let me just say that I’d like a PC section and a Console section talked about, cos both are needed/wanted, but I’m not sure how much you can say about betas, especially when you are in them. Cheers!
Starcraft 2
F.E.A.R. 2 (in case your not sick of shooters, I’d like to know the exact improvements)
