Thanks to you astoundingly generous people, we have received over $11,000 in donations — enough to buy new, awesome podcasting equipment, pay for hosting fees, and help us on our way to putting out the highest quality content we can in our post-1UP lives.
Whether you had the means and/or inclination to donate, or wrote us a comment/e-mail/Facebook/Twitter/1UP/GAF/etc. message of support, or simply took a second to check out the site or podcast, we’re in your debt. I can’t imagine this happening in any other industry, and — for me, at least — confirms that I’m absolutely doing the right thing with my life. I’ll keep talking and writing about games until someone forcibly shuts me up.
We never meant to be withholding about the donations, for those who felt that way. We were just trying to figure out the legal and tax implications of such a thing (if anyone knows, please pass on your knowledge to us!), since we’re not really business types. And as Anthony wrote earlier, as soon as our podcasting setup is finalized, we’ll post pictures of what we ended up with.
So again: thank you. I would say “we couldn’t have done it without you,” but there truly is no “without you.” And that’s why we do this.

I love you guys, but check out what your buddies are doing over at TalkingOrange. You really need to take some of that money and hire an attorney/cpa who can help you with taxes, setting up your business, fictitious name filing, etc, etc. Sure, it’s taking a chunk out that could go to other things, but it’ll certainly pay off in the end should, goodness forbid, something go wrong and/or someone comes knocking on your door wanting some money.
That said, can’t wait to hear episode 2 tomorrow. Keep up the great work!

I don’t know much about taxes, but, I know you can deduct the podcasting equipment as a business expense.
I want you to succeed. There is something wrong with the world when the best, most talented, most entertaining internet personalities can’t make a living from the fantastic work they do. Figure it out, please. If nothing else, the generosity shows that many people would indeed be willing to pay for this service which they find worthwhile. When you are the best at what you do, you should be rewarded, not punished. Tilt the world back on its axis and KICK ASS.
