should i get the pc version or the xbox version??

i only play rts games on pc...so im not so used to first person pc controls. on the other hand, i dont want to search all over the state for a copy on xbox. so the d2d version is very appealing

Ah, thank you. I've only gotten to it once sense I've died so many times. One mistake and I have to go all the way back. Its so annoying its making me not want to keep to trying. It would probably have been better to play this on the PC. Too bad I'm broke. But even with being caught I was able to get by that part, but then just to get stuck on the roof.

If you're breaking the walkway, you're doing that room wrong. That's a sneaking part.

I've gotten as far as the warehouse where the walkway breaks and those two gaurds spot you. Then I ran around and got outside again on the roof and I didn't know where to go. I looked around the roof for about 4 minutes until the game glitched and wouldn't let me walk away from the edge back to roof and would only let me walk off the roof to my death.

It is possible to get past the hotel escape, though it is best if you've set it up right the night before (bolted the door in the room next to you - left the door open in between) but nothing tells you this, and it is possible to bolt the door in between the two rooms - and I guess then you'd be really screwed? I would of actually liked this part if it hadn't involved jumping. Doing everything else perfectly only to be die because of a crummy jump mechanic mad me want to pick up my keyboard and beat something with it.

Yeah, the hotel escape is the most bullshit thing I've ever played! I love Megaman, but this takes repeating something and memorizing it to a whole new evil. I've played it at least 15 times now. If I don't mess up and get killed early, i make it further than the last time only to get stuck because I can't figure out where the game wants me to go... then I get killed. I can't be the only one that is ready to quit. Did the Rebel FM guys have this same problem? Please let me know if I'm just the worst player of all time.

After having a few problems with the game (see my previous posts) I have now played up to the sewer section (well, a little bit past that. I didn't want to stop). I am going back and forth sometimes loving it and other times getting very frustrated. The escape from the hotel section nearly had me quitting the game and saying stuff this. What was happening for me was that because I was running the game at 1024x640 (or whatever it is) it was making me move slowly. I didn't really notice until I kelp dying at that part and thought "I can't be this crap, can I?" I then changed the resolution down to 800x600 and beat it first time. The movement was much faster/smoother it has made the game sooo much better. The tension and atmosphere are fantastic and the fact that you don't have any weapons (yet) but still don't feel that you are somehow deficient or powerless is testament to the great game design. I am looking forward to getting a gun so I can start killing some of towns people how for some reason think I'm public enemy number 1 and want me all kinds of dead. So far I have enjoyed the game except for the frustrations mentioned before, all of which were hardware/settings related. I can't wait for the Rebel FM Game Club (AKA backlog, saw your twitter pkollar) so I can continue playing.

To #171, the Thief series of games is a good example of first person stealth done well. It gave you just enough control to feel that you were actually creeping around the place.

I'm glad to see that backlog is back and picked a game well-worth playing (so far..)

There are so many things I'd like to talk about, within just the first 2 hours of the game. Perhaps, some of the best 2 hours ever grace a survival-horror game (which CoC most definitely is, fps view or not).

#1: This game doesn't just pull from HP Lovecraft for source material, but fully captures the literary nature (through the excellently written journals) and atmosphere (through some interesting cut-scenes and, of course, the sanity mechanic). The developers could have just slavishly drew from the Cthulhu mythos, but instead every part of this project displays the result of what can only be a infatuation for the material.

#2: Shooting works in first person (durr!),platforming works in first person (Mirror's Edge, Half-Life, NOT this game), but I have many doubts whether stealth could ever work in a fps and Cthulhu isn't making a strong argument against that grievance. The most of what can be said of CoC is that it immerses you in the reality of it all, as you nervously peak around a corner and blindly hope no one is around the next corner. It's hardly the puzzle game of MGS/Splinter Cell, for better or worse--I think worse. I for one did not understand at all how "sneak mode" benefits the player. It feels as if the enemy is casting a FF-style 'slow' spell on you. I've never been in a situation that using crouch w/o "sneak" hasn't been the superior method, which seems wrong being that that 'sneak mode' should help you....sneak.

#3: What the hell is that noise you are making when you are crouching? It's as if you are squeegeeing a window, while a cat is dying.

Can't wait to hear what you guys and other ex-1UPers think.

P.S. put Dreamfall,Okami, The Witcher, and Jade Empire for the poll in future months.

Damn, I just got this used from gamestop and while the disk actually looks like it's in good shape, there are a couple small pits in the disk that appear to make it crash as soon as you start the second part of the game on 360, and then I popped it into my xbox, and while it loads, all of the dialog is gone. So I tried to turn on subtitles, but they fly by faster than a speed reader could hope to read them.

@Donniey,

From what I've read the xbox version under 360 BC has terrible sound emulation. If you have an original XBOX you shouldn't have any problems though.

I picked up the PC version and that one has been pretty solid for me. There is a pretty awful save bug (which I personally haven't come across) in the game though so take the advice from others on this forum and make save backups if you go that route. The prices are about the same for the XBOX and PC version (about $15 give or take).

Ok, so I've got my pick between the Xbox and PC version, and money's not an issue. Which version is gonna give me less hassle to play?

Thanks for the advice. I managed to get over 30mins game time in last night by sitting the laptop on 4xdouble coasters for better ventilation (on hard surface) and disabling a core.

Can compressed air be found at most large department stores or whatever? That sounds like a good idea, because when I first got the laptop I noticed most of the heat escaped out the right side vent, but now that doesnt seem to be the case at all.
