We’re back for volume 3 of our Game Club series for Rockstar’s Bully! This week we discuss Chapter 4 and and talk about possible selections for our next installment. We’ve narrowed it down (ha), and will have a post later to discuss these possibilities, but for now, enjoy the ep, and play through to the end of chapter 5 for next time.
Enjoy!!

Hey guys, if you would like a suggestion for Game Club, I HIGHLY recommend someone nominates Okami. I picked it up for $18 at gamestop, and had I owned a PS2 when it came out, I would have gladly bought a copy.
It also looks great unscaled on the PS3 due to the art style employed within the game.
Good work, guys.
Fat Penis?
WHA BAM! Getting off work to a new Game Club is always nice. Thanks Guys.
Eidos announced Deus Ex 3 almost a year ago, you can check out the teaser at deusex3.com or the mirror site fatpenis.co.uk.
Just thinking about the whole bite sized story discussion, how cool would it be to have a GTA game that has the same style of narrative as pulp fiction, and having 3-6 hour story arcs playing as different characters.
I agree soundly. I was really excited to hear that the character from The Lost and The Damned was actually present in the GTA 4 storyline. I would love to see a series of interweaved stories in a game. I’m still playing through the overall GTA 4 story, and it’s fun but getting old.
I’d love to see the next GTA game be nothing but these shorter stories. I was actually really hoping there would be more DLC like Lost and Damned, where they could make a lot more use of the city that it feels like they put a lot of effort into feeling organic.
It’d give them more freedom to play around with different play styles. I’d love to play as a cop in Liberty City, putting pressure on some of the Italian families that were getting nervous towards the end.
Hell I’d wager they could even make playing as a news reporter fun, making you run around the city and collect leads and report on some of the bigger stories, if it was only a 6 hour piece.
I’d like to reiterate just how much I love the viscerally compelling game play, and game mechanics with a compelling sense of physicality to them.
Also, here’s a list of my favorite adverbs: Swimmingly, Surreptitiously, Direptitiously, and Sexily.
It goes to show kids: proof-read your comments!
Ok so I don’t know what exactly you’re referring too, but considering I made that comment ironically, any grammatical mistakes I may have made don’t really do much to detract from it.
Sweet I can’t wait to listen to this tonight at work.
Daggerfall is far bigger than any of the following games. They bragged that the game world was about as large as England. The problem is that almost EVERYTHING was generated randomly. There were probably hundreds of towns and possibly a couple thousand dungeons, between temples, graveyards, caves etc. etc.
Dungeons were enormous, and often pretty interesting, but missions were mostly random as well.
It wasn’t, however, the best game in the series. Morrowind was better, it did a better job of combining Daggerfall’s vastness with unique dungeons.
I’d personally prefer more game club and less regular podcast. Your game club podcast is one of a kind, and your regular podcast is one of many, though very good, but I get most excited for game club.
Agreed. I think the only major problem is that the Game Club podcast requires a time commitment outside of what they would regularly be doing in order to progress further in the game.
I agree and I’m really sad to see this being the direction they’ve chosen to take with the show. I crossed over from rebel FM because Backlog was my favorite segment, and often the only part I listened to. I enjoy the regular podcast but I don’t find myself going out of my way to listen to it like I do with game club. If they end up picking a game I can’t play due to console limitations (Don’t have Xbox), I’ll probably be gone. I don’t mean this as any sort of threat like go back to the old way or I’m leaving forever kinda deal. I just think if I’m out of the game for over 2 months I doubt I’ll find myself reinvesting in the game club.
Just finished Bully. What a great game overall. I’m really happy that Game Club got me to pick this up, as I missed it completely the first time through. I liked it enough that I’ll probably go back to the game after my exams and 100% it.
Chapter 5 is a lot more narratively focused than the last few chapters, and I really liked how they pulled together all of the cliques in order to build up the final battle.
I have a few minor problems with the story though. Specifically, it seems like there isn’t much motivation for all of the cliques to turn on you. Each seems to have a reason, but it’s not like you make one terrible move that makes everyone despise you. On top of that, as much as I loved Gary’s rant at the end, his “plan” to have you pull together the cliques so that he could destroy it and take over just doesn’t make any real sense.
I wholly agree about the protect-the-cheerleader’s-modesty mission; that’s the only time in the game Jimmy acts out of compassion. The best part for me was during the cut-scene where Jimmy is comforting her, maybe his most human moment: I had just gotten the mascot costume, so he spent the whole scene empathizing with her as a moose. The make-out session after the mission made me uncomfortable though; I felt like I was sitting in at a furry convention.
A few quick thoughts on the last few missions of Chapter 5.
I really liked teaming up with Russell and Zoey near the end, but I hated the factory mission. It was really easy, and repetitive. I just didn’t like the environment at all. The fight against the towney was pretty cool though. I liked using the shields, although it took me a while on the wii to realize that I could still hit with it if I swung the nunchuck.
The last mission was really awesome though. I loved the chaos of the school, fighting all of the different clique leaders one by one. Skateboarding around while all of the students battle it out was kind of awesome. Gary himself was kind of a pushover though. After the long awesome rant the final battle basically consisted of me kicking him in the fucking shin again and again. He could barely get a hit on me, although there was something kind of cathartic about being able to just bitchsmack the little shit.
I vote for Fable II. I’ve got it, been dying to play it, and this would finally give me a reason.
About Bully
I got the mopet from the carnival, but I needed a helmet to ride it.
I noticed that when you wear a helmet, the girls kiss you differently, they giggle awkwardly and give you a quick kiss.
I really enjoyed this game overall. The small nature of the environment really helped to magnify the importance and detail paid to each character. Gary in particularly well executed character and my only gripe is how little he played into the game. He was always in the shadows silently fucking you over, but I would have appreciated him showing his face more in the 3 chapters that he’s almost completely absent in.
I didn’t quite understand why everyone suddenly hated me for spray painting the town hall. Getting expelled made sense but being hated by the factions left me clueless other then for the sake of story progression. Either way they ended it well and getting to kick the shit of Gary was easy but fun.
On a separate topic I’d like to say I hate games that implement features that absolutely require strategy guides. Several games implement collectibles and secrets that are next to impossible to find deliberately or intentionally. However Bully takes some strides in healing these woes of mine, albeit not nearly all of them. Using Geography Class to show all of the locations of the collectibles was brilliant, and I wish more games would implement this feature as some sort of reward or added bonus. Internalizing guides and secrets instead of having to resort to outside sources should be featured in very game, even if it’s just as a bonus or extra feature that’s much better than nothing. Unfortunately the errands and some of the clothing award tasks are so obscure and random that it’s still not a perfect system. I think the best system yet that I’ve experienced has been Kingdom Hearts 2. It had an in depth journal that tracked your progress in EVERYTHING. It made it possible to 100% without ever having to look at a guide which is nearly unheard of in most JRPGs.
Lastly I’m really sad to hear that game club is getting cut to 2 episodes a month. I’ll do my best to stick around but if the next game happens to be something I can’t play due to console limitations then I can’t say I’ll find the motivation to come back after I’m out of the loop for 2 months. However this gave me the motivation to start my own real life game club. There’s really no video game club on campus despite the hundreds of clubs that exist. Well I’m going to start looking into what I can do to get this going and try to focus something similar to what you do with your game club at the center (Without the podcast part of course). With 26,000 kids hopefully I can find a couple dozen that might be interested in this. I love listening to podcasts but my main reason is I don’t know anyone who I can have anything close to the same conversations with in real life, and that sucks donkey balls. I’ll let you know what I can put together.
First of all thanks for picking Bully this time around. Cthulu wasn’t my thing, so I passed (but listened) to the first Game Club, but I picked up Bully for this one. I would have never played this game if it wasn’t for GC and I’m glad that I didn’t pass it up. I found it difficult waiting between podcasts to advance to the next chapter and eventually just blew through the rest of the game well ahead of schedule.
I’m a little disappointed about the picks for next time, mostly because I’ve already beaten most of them.
Fable 2 — great game, but I just completed it 2 months ago.
Gun — beat this on the Gamecube a while back. It’s very short, but again worth playing.
Okami — personally I wouldn’t mind this choice, but only because I’m playing through it right now. The only problem is that it’s very long. I’m 20+ hours in and I think I’m probably only about 1/4 through the game.
Stubbs the Zombie — good choice, I would really like to play this
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines – never really heard of this, but after some research it looks really cool.
I’d like to throw one new suggestions out:
The World Ends With You – DS
Crackdown
far cry 2 anyone?
Haven’t listened yet, but if Gun is a pick for next game club, i’ll be all bout it where them killaz hang on the real
It’s funny that Mr. Hattrick is fired but since I didn’t finish math class he still appears when I go… continuity error XD
Anyways, I’ve got a question. Would it have been better if the classes were seen more like an obligation then a reward? Just like real High School? Forcing you to go would make it a little more realistic than skipping all the classes you’d like to.
I had the same bug on the final mission of chapter 4. Tried it over a couple times with same black out screen, only worked after restarting the 360 and reloading again.
Same with me, I had the same problem, but I only had it once. Like you said, restarting the 360 fixed it.
OKAMI FTW!!!
It’s downloading now on iTunes.
built a sweet potato gun out of 2 sizes of pvc pipe: thin for the spud channel connected to the thick for the ingition chamber. inserted a flint switch from a gas lantern into the ignition chamber and put a screw cap on the end.
tap a potato in, spray in some propellant (we used starter fluid), screw the chamber closed, then tamp the potato down to the thin-thick transition. aim, flick the switch and *boom*. we played tag (in fields, wearing helmets) with these bastards. big bruises. soooooo fun.
This was pretty much the design of my one, the barrel was 2m long and we made the combustion chamber was extended to be about 50cm long. We put a bbq starter in the end cap. It could shoot over 300m, there was no way you would want to get hit by it – it could me lethal. I was lucky I never got into serious trouble with it, we did some stupid shit.
Of the games listed as potentials for the next game club, I vote for Deus Ex or Gun.
Kingdom hearts is too long, as is Okami.
Stubbs the Zombie is too short. Me and a buddy of mine beat it in one six hour session. If it gets picked it should be split up into two podcasts. If it doesn’t get picked, I recommend everybody reading this to grab a 12 pack of your favorite beverage (alcoholic or not) and play through it on coop with a friend. It’s funny and unique.
Bioshock is too recent (plus I just beat it not 3 months ago), and Dead Rising and Fable 2 are 360 exclusives. Game club games should be on at least 2 different platforms, ideally 3.
BTW Tyler, I recommended Jade Empire.
I’m really enjoying Bully. I just hope the last third of the game can meet expectations.
Am I the only one that got the impression that Anthony had actually tasted piss at some point in his life? I know what gatorade tastes like, and I know what piss smells like, and from that I can’t understand how one would be so certain that you wouldn’t taste piss in gatorade. I’m pretty sure I would. If you go back and listen to the cagey way that Anthony expressed himself, and then couldn’t answer why he knew you wouldn’t taste it, and the uncomfortable trail off in his voice, it does lead one to believe that Anthony is familiar with the taste of piss.
Someone needs to stop sniffling in their mic.
Thanks for getting this episode posted this morning. I work at a book store and I go in 2 hours before we open to shelve books. You guys keep me sane.
What I find interesting about this game is that four guys have been playing the same game, but all four guys have been have different experiences with it. That to me is pretty cool. Also the final chapter has you trying to regain the respect that you earned in previous chapters and has you completely dodging the townies. Surprisingly the townies are pretty strong. I don’t know if its because they don’t go to schools so they have more time to practice fighting but I found myself getting my ass kicked even after I had gotten every move from the hobo and every boxing match completed.
The final fight between you and Gary was awesome too even if it was a little easy. I think it was the fact he reminded me of a few kids I knew in high school and it was easy to channel my anger.
Oh and as for the Gatorade/Piss comparison, Gatorade is nothing more than a series of electrolytes and sodium in liquid form that your body loses when you sweat, or take a piss. Therefore Gatorade is basically synthetic piss.
Fat penis to you all.
Oh and being that only only system that works for me right now is an old ass PS2, I wouldn’t mind Gun or The Thing for the next Game Club.
Deus Ex! Deus Ex!.
Its on Steam and can run on a 10 year old PC, so it should be within reach of most listeners.
On a related note, I stumbled across this while searching for Deus Ex stuff.
http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/mb/brainygamer
Its basically a forum version of game club.
So far they have done Chrono Trigger, Beyond Good & Evil, Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee, *Deus Ex* and Grim Fandango…so they have taste!
I have a similiar thing going on, on my website: http://playthroughs.com/
We are early on in Mother 3 if anyone cares to join. We’ve previously done Neverhood, Chrono Trigger, Half-Life, Okami, and Castlevania:SotN.
I’ve been trying to enjoy this game, but there are two outstanding problems which make that hard to do:
1. The framerate. The framerate, especially in the winter chapter, is abysmal and I can’t believe more people haven’t brought it up. The game runs, at a guess, around or below 20 fps. It’s completely ridiculous.
2. Tapping X to run. Fuck you, Rockstar. This game is to the X button what Dynasty Warriors is to the square button. This is the first time I honestly wished I had one of those knockoff Gamestop controllers with a turbo button.
Also, I was playing a bike race mission (which, by the way, the first time I tried I got to ride my moped in (glitch?)) and was about to fail and didn’t want to go all the way back to the start, so I paused and hit Restart. The WHOLE GAME FUCKING RESTARTS. The next thing you see is “Welcome to Bullworth”. I’m glad I had saved recently. That is the most goddamn retarded restart option I’ve ever seen in a game. Why would you ever want to do that?
Some game club suggestions:
-Quake 4
-DOOM 3 (I guess I’m on an id rampage here)
-Stubbs the Zombie sounded like a fun choice
-Killzone 2
-Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines was a good suggestion too
-Half Life 1
-Full Spectrum Warrior
Hey guys great show! I just wanted to chime in let you know about the PS2 version of Bully. It does have a many of the same missions that you play on the Scholarship edition. Its just that Anthony is skipping them…
Oh please not Vampire the Masquerade. That’s the only game mentioned on any of these shows that I simply do not want to play.
As I said above, my vote is Fable II. I’ll break it down more though.
1. Fable II
2. Stubbs the Zombie
3. Gun
4. Quake 4
5. The Thing
6. Kotor II (we’ve all played Kotor 1)
7. Mass Effect
8. Just Cause
9. Halo
Okay. I’ve said this a billllion times but..
ICO. either way, It could be hard to find but it would be a short, fun backlog that you could talk about pretty seriously.
My real Suggestion, though, is PERSONA3. I just got into it, and I guess no one played it. I found like 30 copies at Gamestop (I’m sorry) and decided to give it a go. But hell. Seriously, think about EPIC Backlog. It’d take forever. Haha. But it would be MEGA fun for us to hear how the game and characters develop based on all of your decisions. It’s really dynamic, so far and I think thats awesome. So yeah. P3:Fes FTW.
-Griffin H.
I would totally be up for revisiting the first KOTOR (but KOTOR 2 might not be a bad choice either, I never finished it). Most people could probably go down to the park and find a used copy of KOTOR stuck under a bench or buried in the sandbox by now.
I’m really looking forward to the next Game Club. Mainly cuz ill be out on vacation, so ill actually be able to participate. I agree with the Okami idea, since I played it on Wii for like 3 hours, and never returned to it. Ico would also be cool. Any of the older Tim Schafer games would also be great. Maybe a good portable game like god of war or something on DS…
I would love to play GUN but Anthony needs to experience KOTOR. Only problem is finding a copy…
How about The Warriors, talk about a good game, IMO it is one of the most underrated games on the PS2 and defiantly is forgottten about in the terms of being made by Rockstar, I have played it twice all the way through and would love to play through it again with you guys!
(Still listening so many you already decided, but): If you guys end up deciding on Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines, the game has been well maintained by community patches. It just hit 6.0 a few weeks ago… may even be a new version out now. But it works on the Steam version, just point the installer to the game’s folder.
The patch fixes tons of bugs and even unlocks/finishes some quests that were found hidden within the game code. There’s also several versions of the patch so you can only get the fixes, if you want.
The download, all changes, additions, fixes and restorations are listed at Planet Vampire: http://www.planetvampire.com/bloodlines/files/patches/
Did Anthony ever get through the Witcher? I think that’s a great choice for one of the future Game Club titles. It even follows the tradition of being full of bugs, just like all the rest of the Game Club games.
I support KotOR, Jade Empire, and Bloodlines.
The only problem with Bloodlines is that it’s PC only. So non-pc gamers would be missing out. But don’t worry about the technical problems with Bloodlines. The official patches that come with the Steam version is perfectly playable (2 playthroughs so far with no problems), and if not, the unofficial patches fix pretty much everything. Just make sure you don’t get the D2D version of Bloodlines because the copy protection makes it incompatible with community patches.
And Bob, the enhanced edition of the Witcher fixed pretty much everything. I didn’t get a single bug other than 2 crashes playing through it to the end.
Another vote for Gun! I haven’t played a western game in a while and with a few coming up it’d be cool to be able to compare them.
If you want an RPG Yakuza is pretty neat!
The idea of Half-Life 1 sounds fun. I may do that on my own either way.
The ones that stand out in my mind the most as what I’d like to play are Gun and Jade Empire, neither of which have I played.
Ooh! Shadow of the Colossus! such an amazing game in my opinion. This is my suggestion
This was actually the first backlog 1UP FM did to start this project. If you go to 1up they have all of the episodes archived so you can listen to them there. They also have psychonauts, stalker, indigo prophecy, and beyond good & evil. Definitely worth a listen. If you’re not familiar with the old backlog system they’re placed at the end of the regular episodes. You can find which episode it is with the episode descriptions. Enjoy!
I vote for The Thing. Great game and never got to finish it. I got up to a part where a friend tried to eat me. He did have something popping out of his stomach at the time so I don’t hold it against him.
It’s been so long that I’d have to start over so it would be perfect for me.
What about Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow. Might be hard to get copys but I think it would be a good one to do some time.
A Real man’s spud-gun uses a vacum cleaner, that’s why they resemble them
Speaking of gaming polls I should admit that I made close to 100 accounts on 1up to tip the backlog poll in the favour of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (the poll was tied and decided with a coin flip.) The total number of votes was in the range of 1000-2000 so my effort accounted for a few percent of those!
^Thats dedicaton!
also kinda sad…
I know this might sound incredulous but I actually went to a private school (not a boarding school though) that was located in an ex-insane asylum building, but all the adjacent buildings were still part of the insane asylum. We never had any classes, instead we had to structure and take responsibility for our own time and workload, but it mostly meant we would go to cells with 10 inch thick doors and goof around and people wouldn’t hear.
There were also tunnels, connecting all the buildings. Really long creepy things with asbestos, spiders, cobwebs, no lights and homeless people. There was some crazy shit going on. People would shout stuff through the windows, sometimes there were flashers running around, there was someone who wanted to pay me to tie his shoelaces and there was also someone who escaped and drowned herself in a river nearby. Only the older kids were allowed to leave our little school area and walk around though
If you guys want a DS RPG, Suikoden Tierkreis is really good. A solid PSP one, and it’s available through the PSN, is Kingdom of Paradise. There’s a lot to like about that one.
As a side note, and maybe this is just my personal interpretation of Game Club, but isn’t the purpose to play under appreciated games, or games that a lot of people probably missed? I think if you’re a multi-million seller like Fable, then most of your audience has already played it. That’s not to say there isn’t going to be great discussion, but something like Gun is a game that a lot of people missed in spite of its radness.
That was the track for backlog, hence the name. However when they switched the game club they sort of threw that out the window and decided they’d just play whatever and the core thing was to play a game as a group and have a discussion about it. I still think even if a game like Fable 2 hits the vote it will never beat an overlooked game.
I would like to throw another game into the fray for the next game club. It has been mentioned before but was not brought up in the discussion on this episode. I would love to do Beyond Good and Evil. I don’t think the 360 will play it, but it’s readily available on Steam and GOG.com.
They did BG&E as part of 1UP backlog I think back in December, so I doubt they’d be willing to do it again, especially so soon.
I was trying to find an archive copy of it just because I loved the game and would like to hear their thoughts, but so far I can’t find it.
I would like to put Seek and Destroy on the PS2 forward for the next game club game. I feel that this title is a really good game that I enjoyed loads. It doesn’t seem to be particularly well known but I assure you it is a really fun game. It is basically a tank battle game but presented in a cartoony style. However the tanks used in the game are extremely accurate and convincing, with a wide range of both modern and WW2 tanks. There is also a large range of weapons and upgrades to purchase to improve your tank. The mission are fun to play and are well thought out. In addition the game is very playable with a good 2 player mode and the story is reasonably good as well. Not only that but it was incredibly cheap even when it first came out! I don’t know how much it is now in America but I found it on the British Amazon for about £4 or $6 new and from 8p or 12 cents used! Anyway this is a great game that is really worth playing, particularly if you like tanks.
Game Club Suggestions:
God Hand since you guys suggested it before back when it was 1up FM Backlog.
Either of the MSX Metal Gear games.
You can play them both on MGS3 Subsistence for the PS2 (the 2nd disc). Metal Gear 2 especially is a must-play for anyone who considers themselves Metal Gear fans. It’s sort of the Final Fantasy VI or Link to the Past of the Metal Gear franchise.
Right, because MGS3 Subsistence isn’t hard to find at all.
…oh, and Mega Man Legends (either of them).
Might be hard-as-hell to find but it’s also probably one of the most underrated games on the PS1 (there’s also N64 and PC versions of the first game).
Sort of Cel-shaded graphics that hold up better than most PS1 games, entertaining characters, and vaguely Zelda-like gameplay.
Count me as another vote for KOTOR. That was one of those “game of the year” games that I never had a chance to play.
Poor Mike…
I finished the game some weeks ago, but it is still fresh on my mind. I found the last part of Bully a bit hurried, leaving a lot to the imagination. It includes spoilers, so please don’t shoot me, guys.
Ok, you’ve been warned.
Jimmy’s short convo with the principal and his apparent carte blanché from everything, including his expulsion from Bullworth was a nice excuse to turn Chapter Six into an endless cycle, but I felt the whole thing was rushed along so the game would just end. The final fight, and how the whole thing ended. After such a strong beginning with Jimmy’s mother and stepfather and all the introductions, I felt we were left to wonder what happened to the rest of the characters after the closing credits.
On the other hand, I do enjoy all the similarities this game has to The Warriors, and after finishing both, I’ve come to the conclusion that this Rockstar studios division comes up with much more enjoyable stories and buildup than the main head that makes the GTA games. Both games had a strong feeling of atmosphere, and even though Bully kind of strayed from that in the latter half, with Jimmy invading a power plant sort of building, it still retained its personality.
As for what the next Game Club entry should be, I’d like to nominate Thief III: Deady Shadows. It is easily found for both PC and Xbox, and should run at about any system.
I think Arthur and Anthony should both watch this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1CLG4R2L8k&feature=channel_page
And then Anthony should watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iaZBSZ0xbfk&feature=channel_page
Just joking really, just wanted to plug in those videos and get the guys to totally make fun of them on the next podcast.
Not sure if this knowledge is more-common than I know, but just in case I believe those on the ‘cast that hate repetition in sentences should check out this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo_buffalo_Buffalo_buffalo_buffalo_buffalo_Buffalo_buffalo
NEXT GAME CLUB.
Golden Sun for GBA.
Oh shiiit. If I knew where my cart was I’d agree with you. But I don’t.
Son of a bitch! All this talk just reminded me that a friend has my copy of KOTOR, the fucker has had it for around two years now.
Also, since The Thing is out I’ll vote for KOTOR. Now I just have to get my copy back.
In this episode you mentioned an online game in which you could make fake bets on video game sales. What game is this?
Pretty sure it’s this:
http://www.thesimexchange.com/frontpage.php
I missed Jade Empire so I vote for that. The only game I really don’t want is Fable 2.
not sure is this the place for this but there are 6 transitors, the 5th move you get is the 5 hit combo i believe
At what point are the cats’ names going to be revealed?
At this point their presence on the podcast is so consistent you may as well include them in the beginning introductions.
Arthur: “With me I have Anthony Gellegos..”
Anthony: “eeh-yo”
Arthur: “Also joining us is the ever-destructive Boots”
Boots: “mrow” *crash*
I dunno how they do it, but the cats almost always intervene at just the right moments and inject some almost benny-hill style comedy. It wouldn’t be the same show without them, just trying to give credit where it’s due.
Truth is Shane never actually left to go into game development. He just runs around and pretends to be Anthony’s cat knocking shit over. They covered it up for this long but the cat’s out of the bag now. Literally.
…Literally?
I’m so glad they don’t lock the cats in the bathroom for the podcasts, otherwise I would never get the pleasure of hearing a cat take on a tank and win.
I think The World Ends With You would make for an interesting game club.
I also think you guys should do okami. It may be really long, but it was such a great game I wouldn’t mind at all playing it again. I really hope you guys o this game
Fat penis, (following the trend)
Daniel
seconded
Just picked up Gun regardless, never realized it was a good game.
I don’t mean to hamper you guys with any more Game Club ideas, but I came across this little gem while listening to an old CGW podcast:
The Ship (PC)
I bought it out of sheer curiosity after hearing about it. I think of it as part Spy from TF2, part Sims in taking care of your character, and finally part Assassin (that game you may or may not of played in the dorms during college). A single player game exists, but it seems mostly a multiplayer game at heart. Something like game club could breathe a bit of life into the dead community.
While we’re on the subject of dead online multiplayer games, future prospects could include:
Warhawk (PS3)
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PC)
any others you guys would like to play
I have a suggestion for game club, although it might not be anywhere in stores at this point. Septerra Core, an old PC RPG. It’s an interesting blend of old school console mixed with PC RPGs. Combat is turn based. It was a $10 at walmart years and years ago, but it’s a seemingly good (and tough) game from what I’ve played so far.
I did some research and as it turns out…
fatpenis.tv is NOT taken. Or so it seems.
Playing through and meeting the townie girl in the trailer, I noticed her face model looks messed up and odd.
A suggestion I thought of for Game Club was Stuntman:Ignition, since it does have a career mode.
I saw this on clearance for PC at $15 today. I also see around the net that the PC version is kind of broken. I do have a 360 controller wireless adapter, so I could play it with controller.
I also see it used on Amazon for $15 or so + shipping.
Should I get the PC version if I decide to pick it up? This podcast has me tempted.
Also, approximately how long is the game overall (assuming doing some side missions)?
Just finished the Scholarship Edition this morning sticking pretty much to the main storyline. Overall? I was surprised by how good such a small, detailed intimate environment could be.
Whilst playing through a game like GTA: San Andreas, i couldn’t feel any real connection to any of the other characters. However, with Bully, i felt like i got to know my peers, so to speak – and while interaction outside of missions is extremely limited it’s nice seeing some familiar faces every now and then.
However, i didn’t really feel any kind of connection with the townies. It seemed like they were just thrown in as filler, or as the bridge to Gary. Even the girl or the couple guys that did the last few missions with me didn’t particularly stand out.
Russell. is. a. tank.
Seriously, if you have him it’s almost as if you don’t need to fight, he’ll take everyone out for you.
So now? I’m gonna finish up classes, races, and any other events and go for 100%.
A suggestion i have for Game Club is one that i don’t think has been thrown out yet; Red Dead Revolver.
I thought Zoey, was a cool character that needed more fleshing out. Gary seemed to disappear for most of the game which seemed like a missed opportunity. As intimate as the game setting was, the character development did seem a bit lacking. I have to say though, this game is incredibly addicting. I like the fact that the game showed restraint in terms of violence and sexuality. It was fun just watching the interactions between the different individuals in the town.
favorite quote: “Russel likes to hurt people…for peace.” LOL!
I also second Red Dead Revolver. It’s an interesting western that I haven’t gotten around to finishing yet. Game Club would give me that extra incentive. Gun is good too. Finished it 4 times already. The end boss is a pain in the ass though. It’s also only 4-5 hours long so a two episode show would be great.
The world Ends With you. would be a fantastic game to play. A fantastic RPG for the DS.
I’ve got the perfect game club suggestion that takes into account a handheld game, an rpg, and the length. Suikoden. It’s available on PSN so you can play it on PS3 or PSP so if you don’t want to do it handheld then you don’t have to. The series is overlooked but is quite unique compared to most jrpg’s. You actually build up an army and as well as the normal types of rpg turn based battles, there are also full scale army battles and one on one duels. The army battles are better in the second but seeing as that game costs at least $100 on ebay its not the best game club suggestion. Oh yeah, and Suikoden only takes around 20 hours to beat which is pretty short for an rpg.
Great episode mostly due to the fact that I’m actually playing along with you guys. I liked most of the suggestions for the next game club, but I do like the idea of playing KOTOR again so that is my favorite of all the choices.
If I’m not waaay to late here I’d like to suggest Yakuza for game club at some point. I think a lot of people never got around to that, I didn’t at least.
Hey Arthur when can we expect the poll for the next game club? Just want to make sure we have enough time to vote before episode 4 is recorded. I’m not even sure what games are going up to be honest. You guys were pretty vague about in episode 3.
How about Baldur’s Gate II or Divine Divinity? I love CRPGs; great story, great characters, tons of freedom & choice, and the sprite graphics age well. I also throw in my vote for Deus Ex, the original.
Might i suggest Hotel Dusk, or one of the Phoenix Wright games?
Good podcast, i never got around to finishing Bully 1st time around, but i may pick it up again on the merits of this.
Knights of the Old Republic would be absolutely awesome for the next Game Club. I have both KOTOR 1 and 2 at home but never played them far enough to actually finish the story.
I really loved those games, but I always found that I’d start the game all over again when I got half-way through because I wanted to change my class to someone with more force abilities/more evil etc. Unfortunately I was the same in WoW (started about 6 classes that I leveled to at least 25-30 before realising it wasn’t for me, but in the end going back and creating the exact same class I had started with originally, that being Warlock).
KOTOR would especially be great for game club since Anthony (was it?) and others haven’t played it yet. It is very difficult not to have fun with that game. And they are both backwards compatible with 360.
A couple of great games that no one played, that I would personally love to replay are Beyond Good and Evil or Psychonauts. How bout nominating one of these, guys?
I just started a video playthrough of Bully: Scholarship Edition (PC) in HD on youtube. I started recording a bit late, but if you want to watch instead of play or just want to see a couple of tips then check out the playlist: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=78FA2D92168262C1
OK, now in the correct place…

I. Rule. The. School. So, now it’s time to enjoy myself a little. I just love how each clique’s leader strokes my ego. The only downer is Petey going on and on about Gary. The freak’s not a problem; I have Bullworth under my thumb. Darby suggested that I show a little initiative and school pride to everyone. I think I’ll tag City Hall, no-one will miss that kind of message.
And, like clockwork, thar bastard Gary is making his move. This shit is going down: no one takes my kingdom from me.
Apparently my kingdom was a house of cards, and I’ve been left holding the last two. I think it’s time I reminded everyone who the boss is.
This damned school needs a visit from an exterminator. I just spent the afternoon in the library killing rats. Apparently the vermin arrived with a shipment of books from the town. This is starting to smell like Gary’s planning. The rat must like vermin.
Something’s been bothering me since Gary said he went off his meds and I’ve only just figured out what it is: why the hell does my pillow start glowing at night? I’m going to need a food taster until Gary’s in the loony bin.
So I decided to play a little dodgeball instead of going to shop class. So I also found the gym in flames. That dick Mr. Burton instantly blamed me for the fire because I didn’t make the football team. When have I ever wanted to play football? I should have been awarded a medal for going into the gym to rescue the jocks too dumb to leave. I did find a greaser hiding in the girl’s locker room, but I didn’t get a good look at him before he bowled me over. I’m going to have to hunt down Jonny and see why the greasers think arson is a hot idea. One would think all the grease in their hair would have taught them it’s a bad idea long ago.
And where did I find him? In the nut farm. How someone could lead a mob of piston heads and not be sane is beyond me. Apparently being in love with Lola is a good step. It still doesn’t fit and I wonder if Gary had any hand in it. I helped Jonny out of the farm, but I think that in the long run it would be more humane if Lola just killed her boys after toying with them.
I still don’t know why the greasers would employ arson. I never ended up having the time to ask Jonny.
Today I learned that Mandy has an eating disorder. I must remember to mention her figure and not give her a gift of chocolate.
While slumming in the trailer park I ran into this chick by the name of Zoe. Apparently she was a student at Bullworth until she was expelled for complaining that Mr. Burton was hitting on her. Given his little assignment in the Girl’s dorm from around Christmas, this didn’t surprise me. Blaming me for the gym fire didn’t make me terribly sympathetic either, so I decided to help her get a little revenge. It wasn’t the simplest plan, but in the final execution I’d say he ended up having a rather shitty day.
The arrogance of the preppies knows few bounds. How they haven’t been wiped out by any of the other groups is beyond me. I suspect it may involve lawyers. I found them moping over their recently emptied trophy case. Rather than watch them fritter their lives away rumbling with the greasers, whom they blamed, I said I’d try and retrieve their trophies. Of course it turned out that the greasers only had the kind of metal bikes are made from, but they did point me at the local gang as having the trophies so I headed out to dig up some dirt. I ended up finding out where the rats came from, but I still think Gary had something to do with it. I also found the trophies, but by then they were a burning pile of metal on a concrete slab. I took some snaps for the preppies, but they didn’t want to see them and stormed off.
I’m sure Gary’s got his hands in all of this. While I was beating the school into submission hey must have been working over the town’s gang. If he’s got them, I’ll need my own heavy hitters, and I don’t mean Russell. Tomorrow I’ll go see the headmaster.
I knew it wasn’t good when I woke to the PA blaring at me to get to the headmaster’s office. It looks like Gary beat me there too. I’ve been expelled, but as they can’t get in touch with the bitch they can’t kick me off the grounds. This gives me the freedom to operate as I see fit without having to be hampered by a class schedule. If I’m going out, I’m going to do my damnedest to take him with me.
Revenge:
1. Find Russell, I’ll need his muscle.
2. Find the leader of the town gang, Zoe may be a help here.
3. ???
4. Mayhem!
Russell wasn’t hard to find, we booted across town to the industrial area. Whereupon the oaf took out the main gate and anyone else standing nearby. I ended up having to reset the local power station as well or he would have ended up blacking out all of town, and blowing himself up too. After that Zoe gave me the grand tour then acted as decoy so I could sneak into Edgar’s lair. That was a brawl and a half as I ended up fighting about half the town just to get to him, and he likes pipes. I’m going to be sore for days, but I have an ally against Gary. Seems he’s been using his sole lie with everyone. Kind of a letdown seeing as he bills himself as a genius.
And lo, Bullworth was laid low as saw that without me they were nothing as students fought among themselves. Or, at least, something like that. You don’t see the police blocking the entrances of a school unless someone with a gun has decided to go hunting in the halls of academia. Russell was able to open the gate to the teacher’s parking and we entered the school to find bedlam as each group fought the others. Edgar and his gang headed off to the main building to soften up the prefects and teachers while I took Russell and went to calm things down by taking out the heads of each clique.
Things of note:
1. A smoking jacket is not a reasonable form of body armour.
2. Nerds can’t hit. Also, they like to burn stuff.
3. Jocks are all show and have no stamina. They like to burn things too. Maybe I’ll introduce them to some history.
4. Apparently the greasers are softer than they want to let on. Maybe they just need more confidence to admit they like things that are pink and frilly?
Gary was, of course, gloating over his victory. This meant that he was running his mouth and not paying attention to what he was saying or who was listening. Of course I challenged him, and of course he fled. I ended up chasing him to the roof where I was able to corner the psycho bastard. I suspect that tying up the headmaster wasn’t his smartest move, but neither was calling the bitch a whore. She may be a gold digger, but she’s got limits she doesn’t stoop below. Of course that meant I had to beat him senseless. Not sure what happened, but we both ended up in the headmaster’s office, I was standing Gary wasn’t. This was, of course, when Garry’s running of his mouth paid off for me: I’m not expelled anymore and he is. I was able to get Mr. Burton fired and Zoe’s expulsion overturned in a single breath. And, seeing as Petey’s been so much help over the past year, I suggested him as a replacement for Gary as head boy. The kid’s smart, and not nearly as psycho as Gary.
Maybe Bullworth did do me some good. If so, I’ll never admit it to the bitch or the fossil. Doing all this work for myself and others has shown me that I don’t need the bitch’s attention. Maybe I won’t burn that god-awful sweater she sent me, but I’m still not wearing it.

I rather liked Bully, the story was engaging even if I think the end fell short. The last cinematic wrapped up the climactic fight with Gary too quickly for my tastes. In the end it felt a little too contrived, ‘perfect’ and a little cliched to me. But, in the end it didn’t detract too much from the game.
I don’t know how much I’ll play now that I’m in the post-game. I’m not sure I feel like running the missions I opted to skip, such as busting Mr. Galloway out of the Asylum or smashing garden gnomes. I’ve got enough games sitting in queue to finish that they’ll likely take precedence over increasing my completion percentage.
I miss game club.
I observe that your written work is rather serious as it contains plenty of accurate info. In Any Event, was overcurious whether you would willing to interchange links with my web site, as I am looking forward to build contacts to further amplify and get better web exposure for my site. I don’t really mind you putting my web links at the main page, just getting this web links on this page is good and sufficient. By the way, would you be kind enough reach me at my web portal if you are keen in exchanging links with me, I would really appreciate that.
