After all your waiting, here it is: our final installment of our Game Club series on Rockstar’s Bully! We discuss Chapter 5, our own slightly disturbing high school memories, and our love of Zoe (and sad faces that she was introduced so late!). And, uh, we might even tell you what our next Game Club game will be, based on your suggestions and our inflated senses of self importance, and we’ll dedicating a post to it later today. As always, subscribe, review, and submit to your favorite social aggregator of choice, and thank you for all of your support.
Enjoy!!

My pick for next game is Knights of the Old Republic. Might be a bit long tho.
It’s definitely a forty hour game if you do all of the side quests.
But oh so worth forty hours. I can’t believe Anthony hasn’t played it yet. Anyone who claims to like Star Wars has to play KotOR at least once. Such a great game.
Yakuza or Yakuza 2!
Did you guys not read what he said in the post above? The next game is already decided and they’ll announce it later today.
@ lonelyspacepanda
er…i gathered from “And, uh, we might even tell you what our next Game Club game will be, based on your suggestions” theyd read these comments before deciding. Its late here so whatever.
OK i just finished listening to the podcast and they chose a game already so ignore my posts, lol.
OKAMI!!
seriously guys, Okami is a GREAT game.
The Warriors, you guys need to do it!
And did anyone else have major audio issues with this episode, sometimes the audio will cut out all thogether, or become majorly choppy, anyone?
sorry guys, i just found out it was the ear bud i was listening to it on, sorry!
You guys should do Metal Gear Solid 1 for the next game club.
Well, If you guys are still deciding, I’d like to throw my support behind a couple titles:
1) Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines
-cuz it’s a game everyone needs to play
2) One of the Sly Cooper Games
-with Infamous around the corner, I’m curious to try one of them out
3)Valkyria Chronicles
also I kind of want to say Zeno Clash, but it’s only like 4-5 hours long, so probably be hard to do more then 1 or 2 podcasts on
whoops, just read that they already picked one, ignore me.
I came across a few titles reading through GPU Gems and sparks of old memories.
Tron 2.0 – I remember hearing big things about it when it came out. It looks all pretty with the neon coloring.
Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay – I know Arthur just finished it, but I ordered Dark Athena looking to get both games under my belt. Butcher Bay seems to be a classic for anyone who played it.
Giants: Citizen Kabuto – I remember when this game came out and it was regarded as a funny game. I wonder if it holds (probably not).
Tron 2.0 is a surprisingly excellent game. And it has online light-bike racing. I second this.
They picked Gun. Never played it, but I always wanted too. Just downloading it on Steam now.
Pretty good episode by the way.
Really? Gun? I want to play it and all, but after Bully, Gun is going to feel redundant and lacking in comparison. I’ll still play and listen of course, but I hope they reconsider and save it for a later month–or am I alone in feeling this way?
BTW, I’m holding a poll from next month’s game on my own game club, Playthroughs. Stubbs the Zombie and Super Mario RPG are among the 6 choices, so I invite anyone to join along.
Check it out, here: http://playthroughs.com/
Yeah, I think it might be too similar too. I mean, different setting of course but a lot of similar gameplay elements. I haven’t listened to this newest Game Club episode, or episode 15 yet (but I always get around to listening to them) so I’m yet to hear why they selected Gun. It was an enjoyable game of course, but as you’ll see in my post below, I think KotOR would have been a much better choice.
The gif that Tyler talks about is something I saw on Shawn Elliot’s Twitter. It was interesting to say the least
if by interesting you mean completely fucking horrifying, then yes.
about that This American Life episode mentioned, the most horrible/hilarious mouse trap is the mouse gas chamber. Horrifyingly funny.
Also, I’m halfway through the episode, haven’t heard the choice yet, but HELL YES GUN! I just started replaying that game this week, I’m at the last boss, but will gladly start over.
dwarven blumpkin
Aw, I so wanted to play KOTOR again.
Gun seemed like the most obvious choice from the start. I bought it 2 weeks ago because I figured it would be the next game.
Awesome! Gun was one of the games I was pulling for to get picked as it’s one I’ve never played. Now I just need to find a copy, lol
I, too, used to know someone who could move his testicle in the exact same way. It was creepy and elicited the same reaction from all of my friends.
Guess I’ll have to get Gun, now. I’ve heard some mediocre things about it from friends, but have also heard that it has a lot of easy achievements, which appeals to me…
Speaking of not enough western games and Rockstar, they announced a sequel to Red Dead Revolver.
GUN is also on the PSP. It’s called GUN Showdown and if I remember correctly it’s the same as the consoles/PC version.
I think for the next Game Club you should do Phoenix Wright: Ace Attourney. Since it’s a DS game it could be done in large chunks, and with the game being broken up into episodes it makes assignments for Game Club very easy. You could in theory burn through that game in two weeks.
Another bonus is that the game is just so damn good, it is a modern classic. I know that term it probably on some list of “Words not to be used” but it best describes how I and many other gamers feel the Ace Attourney series.
damn! i’m too late to comment on bully. i just finished it two nights ago instead of doing my physics homework and even though it was my second time playing though it, the game is pure gold. Oh well, it was good fun and the podcasts were hilarious. I have found the joy in game club when one actually knows what minute detail that is being discussed. I was so interested in the promotion GUN was given in the past, but I never got around to follow that curiosity. Can’t wait to fight bears and hijack horses.
Gun! YAY!! I’ve been wanting to play Gun for quite awhile, and already own it for 360, so I love this choice. Now if only my 360 was working…
Good episode guys. Gun’s a good choice for the next game though I have finished it numerous times. Those who haven’t played it will have a blast. Can’t wait to hear your takes on it.
Whilst checking how much Gun costs in the UK on Steam just now, I came across this:
http://store.steampowered.com/news/2447/
Finally, a fix for anyone struggling with crashes on new systems!
I’m pretty happy about it as I had to put my playthrough of Bully (on a Vista 64 4GB system) on hold in order to finish university but…wow that timing sucks. Oh well, hopefully it will be enough to get players like me (and, from the sounds of it, Arthur) who were on the verge of rage-quitting for good when the game randomly crashed for the umpteenth time.
god damnit! i had to stop after episode 2 of game club bully cos i upgraded my gfx card and i started to get all the bugs. I might go back to it now tho.

As much I don’t really mind playing Gun, I must say that I miss the democracy.
I really enjoyed Bully- if only Rockstar’s other games were of a comparable length. I’m also glad I’m not the only one who fell in love with Zoe.
As for Gun, I’ve already played through it twice. On hard. With 100% completion. On the GameCube, of all things. So I’ll probably give it a miss, but it was a lot of fun. It’s open-worldy so it might be interesting to compare it with Bully, but the world is a lot smaller and the experience is a lot more condensed. I guess they didn’t have sprawling cityscapes a la Liberty City in the Old West.
I had just listened to your podcast on Bully; I turned on xplay and was reading their crawl. They have just released a PC patch for Bully.
Photography is in the PS2 version. It gives you better cameras for doing the yearbook.
As to kissing boys… I believe every single clique has one potential target. And they all give hints, I believe. The ‘shirts or skins’ happens even if you don’t go through with the kiss, but it’s the sort of hint I’m talking about.
I’m surprised you’ve never heard of the Broken Sword before.
What’s up with the awful sound in this episode?
While I miss getting a chance to vote, I’m cool with Gun as the next choice, if only because I haven’t played it and it’s super cheap and easily attainable.
Hopefully Gun will illict more conversations akin to those of pornstars and poop-eating. Pure comedy gold.
P.S. Arthur, would you be willing to name the pornstar you went to school with?
Never have played Gun, plus it is cheap.
Ahh, seriously they chose Gun over KotOR? That really sucks, this week I dusted off my copies of KotOR 1 and 2, and read about 5 different character creation guides to be perfectly set up to play through with Game Club. Damn, I was really looking forward to that too.
Gun was a fun game but I don’t think it was anywhere near as enjoyable as KotOR, and with Old Republic coming soon it would have been a great time to play it again (or for the first time, Anthony!) I’m pretty sure I played through Gun in about two or three sessions, completing close to 100% (I think I may have missed an objective at some point, but finishing the story didn’t take very long).
*Just checked my 360 Achievements, the only achievements I didn’t earn in Gun were for: Completing the game on Easy, Hard or Insane difficultly (finished on Normal, obviously), and I didn’t manage to become a ‘Professional Prospector’ (ie. couldn’t find every gold ingot in the game… Thinking back though, I’m sure I had only 1 left but couldn’t figure out which one and just gave up, similar to those damned pigeons in GTA IV… 199 pigeons… That 1 last pigeon still gives me nightmares)
I really hope they change their minds, but I’m guessing the guys would have all started playing Gun by now.
Regardless, I think it would be criminal not to have KotOR on Game Club soon! Although now that I’ve read all the character creation guides, I’m going to start playing it anyway, I just wish it could have been while you guys were playing it too.
I just had a look at the dates that I earned these achievements, is it bad that I was only one gold ingot away from 100% completion in less than two days?
I mean I enjoyed the game so much that I completed the story and all the side quests in such a short time (and I wasn’t just racing through the game just for the achievements, as I may have for say, King Kong) but perhaps this game will be finished too quickly by most to have any more than one episode about it?
I hear ya about the collecting. I’ve been playing through Assassin’s Creed trying to get my 100% on it. Just last night I finally found the 100th flag in Jerusalem, which was a multi-night hunt–and I’ve been using a guide!
Well i’m excited, this will be the first backlog/game club my wife and I will actually participate in, I played gun a little bit a while back and didn’t think it was that amazing, but now I guess i’ll actually play through it all.
Along with most everyone else we should do Kotor/Kotor 2 for the next gameclub, because I have always heard such amazing things about it and I love the elder scrolls series and it seems in the same vein just with Star wars characters, So I think Kotor would be a really good choice.
Also I usually just listen and don’t post, but Arthur your a good podcaster. This podcast has has some rough patches with Phil and Nick leaving, as they were a great duo and functioned well together by keeping eachother on topic while deviating every now and then. I’m sure people just wanted you to leave because they have liked phil for a long time and would miss him on the podcast.
Just do what you guys do, if people complain that you deviate too much or not enough fuck em, its you podcast do what you want.
Great podcast guys. Beefy Vagina was me!! I said that in an email which Arthur completely ignored.
Regarding Gun, I’m eager to play it again. Some quick price checks:
Direct2download and Steam (PC) are both $19.99
Xbox used at Gamestop: $4.99
PS2 used at Gamestop: $8.99
360 used at Gamestop: $14.99
Logic says to buy it for PS2 but I’m temped to download the PC version for smooth mouse controls and graphics tweaking.
Maybe I`m alone here, but I`d like to see (um, hear) the guys play Dark Sector. I`m currently playing the game and I think It would make a good choice. It`s certainly accommodates for the the Chapter format of the podcast.
I think Gun could be a good choice as well. It`s easily available for anyone who has a store suiting some form of convince in their neighborhood. Whenever I talk to people who have played the game, they seem to have found something new. Not to mention it`s a short game and wouldn`t take more than three podcasts.
Dark Sector or Gun
Dude…it’s Gun. Listen to the podcast. In the last 5 minutes they confirm that it’s gun and it will be played over 3 sessions.
Gun is a slightly above average game. It’s nothing spectacular but it is short and sweet and very fun.
It’s easily worth $4.99 if you have a PS2.
Just got the 100% achievement yesterday. It’s funny- I was lamenting to my wife last weekend that I would miss the Bully universe, but after going for my first complete 1000 gamerscore in a game… DEAR GOD am I glad that game is effing over! Never doing that again. Still, a sequel would be welcome.
If you guys are looking for a cool rap song check out Army of the Pharaohs- Swords Drawn. It’s got a Bully Theme Song sample in it.
best. game club. evar.
I played through for 100% completion, mostly for the achievement. It was the first rock star game i actually got into.
It was strange to hear Tyler’s story about his dare officer. My name is Tyler, and my dare officer was arrested for child molesting.
Gun is awesome. I rented it and completed it for xbox back in the day. After hearing it’ll be the subject of the next game club I went out and bought it for 360.
Glad you guys chose that one.
All of the competitive the human race adjusts on his own to the world; the actual false single goes on with seeking to adjust our world which will their self. ( Bernard Shaw )
Thx for this post. I would like to post something simular on my blog. This is good idea so I might use it!
