I know it seems a little early to ask, but as recent years have shown, the closer the show gets, the few surprises it has left due to leaks and the like. Post your questions below, and we’ll go through them prior to recording tonight! Also, feel free to ask OT questions below as well, but if you do, try and make a prediction as well. I predict that Nintendo will announce that Mother 3 will be released for the DS in Spring 2010. Either that or the Street Fighter III series will be re-released on PSN and XBLA this fall.
I doubt they’d pimp SF3 right after announcing MvC2.

I expect a lot out of this E3 and I hope asside from what I predict to come true but for these companies to bring even more to the table. 2009 has been a tough year for gaming so far the number are slowing down thanks to the situation the country is in. They all need their A game none of that crap Nintendo pulled last year. I don’t have high hopes for them this year either but anything is better than Wii Music. A

Nintendo:
Wii Fit Plus with Motion+ capability, other Wii Sports Resort games shown, Zelda Wii with M+ sword controls. More games and applications for DSiWare and DSi VC.
HL2 Episode 3 and Ken Levine’s X:Com title are revealed. More Diablo 3 and SC2 info shown, more D3 than SC2 as they’ve been leaking out SC2 videos and info pretty much constantly while D3’s been under wraps for the most part. Maybe the new Metal Gear spinoff. More information about that Zelda DS train game, hopefully public gameplay footage.
Crossing my fingers and hoping for info on Warren Spector’s Disney game but that’s entered the “Duke Nukem Forever” area of “I’d be shocked if I ever seen it”, they’ve been working on it so long.

Finally get to see Beatles Rock Band, those Coachella McCartney clips don’t count. Maybe get a glimpse of what Fallout New Vegas has to offer. If anything is shown it will most likely be a trailer, since it seems as if the project started relatively recently. Hopefully we will not be underwhelmed by the three major press conferences. Sony will give a lot of attention to the PSP Go. Nintendo will focus on Wii motion plus with Red Steel 2 and ram the DSI down our throats. Microsoft seems a little iffy. They could possibly tease the new GTA4 content and if we are lucky Alan Wake.
I believe(hope?) Booth Babes will be back. My heart goes out to the journalists who sit through boring keynotes, and then demo shitty games. These hardworking men and women should be rewarded with timeless traditions like booze and TNA.
What do you guys think of packing in betas or demos with full games (crackdown, halo or infamous,uncharted). A good idea or does it take away from the actual game, overshadowing it?

I think a large portion of Sony’s press conference will be geared towards the PSP. Whether this be unveiling the new model or announcing that 50% of the line-up they have not talked about yet I couldn’t say. I think people are going to be disappointed because I don’t think Sony is going to announce a PS3 price drop at E3, they’ll wait out the summer.
I think Infinity Ward will show off Modern Warfare 2 at one of the big press conferences also, if I had to guess it would be Microsoft’s. Microfot will be heavily showing off ODST and maybe even Alan Wake finally seeing as how their first party isn’t very strong from what is announced this year.
As far as Nintendo goes the cease to amaze me in how much they can disappoint me year after year. I’m crossing my fingers for a new IP, but it will probably just be a new plastic piece for my Wii.
Sony will have a decent/good showing with the reveal of the new PSP model and software push and hopefully some good PS3 titles that have yet to be revealed but will be coming out late this year early next year.
Nintendo won’t have a good E3 with most titles like Punch Out already known. There will be a push for more balance board, Motion Plus and DSi titles. VC will continue to get the shaft.
Microsoft will have an ok showing. I’m not sure what they will have up their sleeve other than ODST and more Japanese dev support. Maybe more exclusive DLC that punishes the non-X-Box community.
On-Live and Gaikai will try and have stronger demos and maybe attempt to answer questions. This will result in more true believers and more skeptics.
-Is Activision at the show this year? If so, yeah, probably D3 and SC2 stuff. No release dates though. That’s what BlizzCon is for.
-A shitty Nintendo press conference. Another game that has “Wii” in the front of it. Expect weird skiing stories.
-Loads of Microsoft games announced. The new GTA DLC, for sure. Alan Wake, maybe.
-Very few Sony games announced, but information/gameplay on Uncharted 2, God of War 3, inFamous, Gran Turismo 5, MAG, and the new Ratchet. Possibly an announcement about the game that Jaffe is working on. Maybe Team ICO’s next game, but that’ll probably be TGS.
-Footage from a lot of the new Capcom games.
-Info on what exactly the Bioshock 2 multiplayer is going to be like.
-A confirmation about who bought OnLive.

Kind of OT – Anthony since you have said that you have never been to E3 before, what do you imagine it’s going to be like? What is your stradegy to avoid the E3 “sickness” that usually happens with that many people shoved into one room.

I believe Valve may shed more light on the next episode of HL2. I predict that it will be a part of a new “Box” set which will consist of HL2 Episode 3, Counterstrike 2, and Portal 2. The box will have to include a color and fruit name so my bet is “Lime”. Of course we won’t see the finished retail copy until 2010.
I predict that Nintendo will disappoint fans yet again by neglecting the hardcore audience. This will cause more Nintendo fanboys to move over to the 360 resulting in more cash for Microsoft.
Sony Finally announces a price drop only to be one upped by Nintendo also dropping the price of the Wii.
Well I think that they will be a new Xbox, maybe even one which is handheld, but thats unlikely. Also I think that they will be a new PSP, Gears of War 3 will be announced (because no one knows they are making another one) and Nintendo will announce Wii HD and a DS with an extra clock on it.

I predict the next PixelJunk game will be more exciting to me than the majority of the announcements from any of the major publishers at their press conferences.
Modern Warefare 2 will have gameplay demonstration and win game of the show, as well as best graphics.
I wouldn’t be surprised to hear some rumblings about NXE development. I think that with the success of the party system and avatars so far, it only makes sense that they add some things here and there. This could be some experimentation while Microsoft is developing their own version of “Home.”

So I guess we’re stabbing in the dark with unjustified explanation. I’ll try to back up my claims:
Mass Effect 2 will be announced for release in Holiday 2009 (but because they’re BioWare, it’ll actually hit in Spring ‘10). There’s seemingly nothing coming in 09 that’s exclusive for Xbox, and Microsoft will definitely want something as heavy hitting as Mass Effect 2 to make Christmas.
Alan Wake will be announced for release in Holiday 2009 (but because it’s Alan Wake, it will never, ever be released).
Max Payne will be big during both Sony and Microsoft’s press conferences.
Sony will tell us a bunch of shit we already know and don’t care about anymore; OH MY GOD LITTLEBIGPLANET IS ON THE PS FUCKING P!! Etc.

Hate to be a bummer, but I`d be surprised to see any big announcements at E3. Companies are holding their cards close, and no one has money to get excited for a new console or hand held (maybe that means Sony will announce a new solid gold PS3, too boost sales haha).
I expect a few minor titles; EA shows more of their sports titles, Activision shows more MW2, Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero.

We make things difficult so we feel challenged. Home is a great success if you ignore all the virtual blowjobs going on and are willing to wait in line to play an arcade machine. Going to back UMD until psp2 actually launches with no UMD drive. Since you can’t trade in or buy a digital copy of a game.
Seriously though. Not going to expect anything really big that we haven’t really heard of. It will most likely be new games that copy ideas from old games. Nintendo will have the motion plus which should have been there in the first place. Third parties are going to be the ones that have potential of something intersting.
I believe companies will celebrate new ways of nickel-and-diming customers. Re-selling things to us that we’ve already purchased in the face of a financial crisis.

my guess is that sony will pretty much focus on the psp go! and try to avoid the entire issue of a price drop for the ps3. if compfronted about a ps3 price drop they’ll bring up the price drop of the ps2.
along the lines of the psp go! they might also talk about rampant pirating on the psp.
nintendo will announce 2 hardcore titles. there is going to be tons of hype about it but in the end will disappoint most core gamers. (*what else is new?)
there might be some talks about onlive, but not much. the company that picks it up (my guess is microsoft) is going to sit on the technology untill broadband in the US will make it a viable platform
last but not least, the palm pre. i havent really been keeping track of it, if they havent already, palm will announce a release date which will be sooner reather than later

bioshock (the original) is going to be released for the ps2 to get ready for the bioshock2 release. sony hopes, the title will get people to drop some bills for a ps3

My E3 prediction is that there will be something new from valve that sounds amazing, new Twisted Metal game, Nintendo will go harder toward the casual by bringing in more Japanese and American Pop culture relevant games like Rythem Heaven and Blueberry Garden will be coming to XBLA.
replace relevant with casual…man it’s been a long day.
ok here we go:
Sony:
1. No Price Drop
2. Home will be ignored
3. Games like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Final Fantasy XIII will wow onlookers
Microsoft:
1. Gears of War 3 will NOT be announced
2. Halo 3 ODST will be Playable and have a central focus
3. Fable 2 will be the first in a line of Downloadable Full Xbox 360 Titles
4. New Sku with 250gb SSD Hard Drive or you can Purchase the hard drive buy itself at the low low price of your immortal soul or fat penis
5. If and I stress IF Xbox live is ever made free (and it wont) the cost of DLC and other downloadable content will go up exponentially. oh and netflix will only be available to a paid subscription.
Nintendo
1. Will Gloat about there massive sales numbers
2. Announcements of an improved online service
3. Announcement of a DSI/Wii integration (a la Gameboy SP and GameCube
4. Reggie will continue to come off to as a complete Prick
Other
1. FFXIII will have a release date in America
2. Bungie will announce there next title
3. Blizzard will tease more info on there titles (Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2) but will save any major announcements for Bizzcon
4. Infinity Ward will have an Impact with Modern Warfare 2 But it will not be the Show Stopper that COD: Modern Warfare was.

I’m hoping E3 will host demos of OnLive that attempt to simulate more “real-world” conditions or at least provide some transparency. There was speculation that performance of the GDC demos was most likely due to the fact that pristine conditions were setup (and I tend to agree). I would like to see a demo running from servers several hundred miles away, or, at the very least, viewers should be given information about the conditions of the demo and what to expect under less ideal conditions.
Love the show but whoever keeps snorting is starting to get on my nerves. Perhaps you could just blow your nose before you start recording.
I think this year’s E3 is going to be wild, similar to the “good old days” of E3. As for the big 3 I don’t see a lot of hardware announcements – maybe some new PSP stuff some Wii peripherals, but otherwise I think exclusives will be the big thing at E3 this year. I think Sony and Microsoft in particular will reveal some new exclusives, but there will also be a lot of new footage and playable demos of forthcoming mega hits such as Uncharted 2, Bioshock 2, Heavy Rain, God of War 3 and hopefully, some footage of Modern Warfare 2 actual game play.
^ Add MAG to that list. I see lots of MAG hype at E3 this year.
Also, add edit buttons.

Something else i want to say: Arthur you may be the hated one but we love you for being that guy. Every podcast needs one
Aside from the BIG announcements, which of course we all know about(?), Nintendo announces more rehashes and ports, Microsoft gives everyone 2,000 Microsoft points for the next big NXE update that will crash their boxes, Sony gives out Little Big Planet promotional respiratory masks with SackBoy’s mouth on the front, and Rebel FM announces the development of rhythm-action game Fart Tape: Duck Call Edition. Pre-orders causes Gamestop’s servers to crash.
My main prediction is that there will be a PSP 2 (or PSP Go! or PSP Whatever), but that it’s feature set will be a disappointment. Like it will be download only, but won’t have enough storage for long term use… or some features that the newer PSPs have will be stripped off (like video out).
Other than that…major boredom by Nintendo, Sony keeping a stoic face (and not changing their strategy) whilst their empire crumbles, and Microsoft fumbling what success they do have.
I was wondering if youse guys coulds cover something on the show:
If the PSP redesign surfaces and goes to a download only model, do you think sony can be successful with it? I ask since it seems most “traditional” companies don’t seem to understand the downloadable portable games market.
It seems to me that the most successful games are small, cheap, fun and ultra fast to play. Looking at the iPhone you have stuff that costs $0.99 and can be played in 5 to 10 minute sessions, and to top it off they are the most “fun” games I have seen in some time. Games following this design are also quite successful sales wise.
The companies putting those sorts of games out are not your large traditional developers that release games for the PSP. Companies like Square, Konami, Ubisoft and Namco are making small downloadable games, but they are charging high prices for games that have high production values, but are low on fun. Stuff like Crystal Defenders, Assassin’s Creed iPhone, MGS iPhone, and that crazy over priced Pac-man port. To top it off, most games made for PSP are experiences more in the vein of “playing it at home on my console” in terms of length and design, not quick get in and get out portable experiences I feel would have a higher chance of sell through success.
Taking all that into account, can Sony be successful selling a new PSP hardware that requires a paradigm shift in how developers who make games for PSP make their games?

I predict we’re finally going to see Sony unveil more 3D games support, for delivery this christmas.
I might be early… it might still be six months to a year off, but we’re close.
I really hope 3D games don’t eventually become default, with no option to turn it off, or I’ll be just as screwed as colorblind dudes are now.
My eyes both work, but don’t work together, which affects my depth perception (including “3D” images) and seeing the schooner in MagicEye pictures. I’m all for anyone who wants to enjoy it, but I hope developers remember to make it a toggle option.
