Just downloaded it now gonna listen to it soon.

  3. G3NK1E says:

Fuking great music selection…… Just thought I would comment that.

  4. PS3RG says:

Cannot wait to listen…. you guys never fail and always produce stellar podcasts. Keep it up guys! Long Live Games.

  5. Malfinko says:

Gravity on Mars isn’t based in any way on the sun.

    • Nick says:

Mars is much smaller than Earth gravity on Mars is about 40% of what it is on Earth. Why would the distance from the sun have any effect on Mars’s gravity. Also Mars doesn’t have a breathable atmosphere and the dude in the demo doesn’t have a helmet.

If they are going to make a game set on Mars why not take advantage of the setting and give the characters a low gravity gait and have jets of condensation shoot out of enemies’ helmets when I get a head shot. Every Sci-Fi video game seems to be really low-brow with humanoid aliens etc. How about some hard sci-fi games?

  6. Someone says:

I was actually surprised to see it up! Great work guys, love the podcast so much. Can’t wait to listen.

  7. Prone says:

Loved the podcast, but get some better transition music please. Nobody wants to hear screamo for Christ’s sake.

  8. James says:

Gravity of Mars is almost the same as earth, a bit less because the size is a little smaller. Distance away from the sun affects the length of the year. Earth’s is approx. 365 days, Mars’ is a bit longer I think, maybe as much as twice as long. Keep up the good work, I always enjoy hearing the show.

  9. DonnyJ says:

Loved the episode and the music. Keep up the good work fellas!

Concerning the DLC topic, I never actually knew it was a technical thing. Obviously Rockstar doesn’t get to use this excuse. Although for Bethesda it was technical reasons, my opinion hasn’t changed much. Other games do release DLC for both systems and if Bethesda can’t do it then that is just a lack of support and resources allocated for that console. I’m a PS3 owner, and honestly I feel like I’m being treated like a second rate customer (even if it’s for business reasons) despite being just as loyal and buying their product at launch. If they’re not going to support my product like they do my friend’s product, well then I’m not going to do business with them or purchase a product that’s going to do this. I’m not asking anyone to boycott Bethesda and Rockstar or anything like that, they have their reasons and I understand that. As an educated buyer I can only be fucked by my own purchase decisions and can’t blame it on the developer or publisher. It isn’t like they lied or did any false advertising.

To be fair, I bought these games fully aware I wasn’t getting this DLC. I severely underestimated how much I’d want the DLC after I’d played the game. I don’t know if I’ll be the only one doing this, and I severely doubt it’ll make any impact on changing how they handle DLC. I just don’t want to be in the same situation I am now, because it sucks donkey balls.

    • casual_alcoholic says:

As an addition I have Oblivion and Shivering Isles for PS3 and they both run great. Bethesda CAN do it and it’s the same engine. Like I said above, it’s just a lack of willingness to plug the resources into the project. Honestly the fact that Microsoft isn’t giving them anything and they’re doing this out of pure choice is almost more frustrating. It’s easy to get angry at Microsoft and think of them as an evil corporation trying to steal my DLC; however, hearing it was Bethesda’s decision is sort of like being betrayed by a good friend that I trusted. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook the fact your friends may just not care about you all that much.

      • Aegies says:

It’s not a matter of the content being able to theoretically run on the system, were it part of the games content. However, the manner in which DLC is integrated with disc based content on the PS3 makes it difficult to impossible for Bethesda to get their content working on the system. It’s a software issue, more than a hardware issue, and it’s due to the way that the PS3 OS handles things. I’m sorry if you don’t like the answer, but it’s the only one Bethesda has given, and if they had received money from Microsoft for some kind of exclusivity deal, it would have come out by now. Bethesda likes money. If they could give you the DLC, they would. I am consistently surprised by the refusal of a number of gamers to lay any blame whatsoever at Sony’s feet for technical limitations and restraints that are the result of their console’s hardware and software design.

They talk about it here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=140933, during this episode of the 1up show.

        • casual_alcoholic says:

First off, as a PS3 owner I probably am more angry at Sony than any Xbox or Wii fanboy, because I’M the one that actually has to live with their terrible decisions. I definitely started to see the problems with Fallout emerge on PS3, there were a few game ending bugs that really pissed me off, and it was freezing constantly towards the end of my file. After hearing your argument I’ve come to terms with the fact that as a PS3 owner I’m not going to get the full Bethesda experience, and I’ll willingly accept Sony has a large hand in this problem. Like I said, other games DO release DLC for PS3, and if Bethesda can’t this time around I hope they consider it early on in development for any future titles so that it stays a possibility. Shivering Isles is up for download and as a disc based add on so they certainly know how to do DLC on PS3 in some way even if they can’t for Fallout 3.

I was surprised to listen and find out it was actually a hardware problem, which you don’t hear about too often with the PS3. I looked it up to confirm and surely enough I came across this http://rofl-at.us/?page_id=85 . The interesting thing I didn’t know was “The PS3 has less than one-fifth of Xbox 360′s (48 GB/s) of total memory system bandwidth.” According to Garnett Lee this is what hindered Oblivion DLC, although in that case they ultimately succeeded. It’s sad to see that’s the case, and I’ll let Bethesda off the hook for this one, but the situation hasn’t really changed. If I can’t play the DLC then I’m not going to want to play the game. If I can’t have one then I don’t want the other, but again I have to stress this is purely a personal thing and I’m not urging or asking for anyone else to do the same. I do hope Bethesda keeps this in mind for future titles and is able to implement DLC later on. I don’t know if there are any disc based solutions but I’d really like to see some more information on this topic. Arthur thanks for the 1up show link but the thing is that you had to dig into a 2 minute clip from 2 years ago to find any information on the topic. If you find anything else about it let me know, I’ll keep looking on my own too. I’m more curious than angry, and I just want to understand a little better why I can’t have this DLC and more details on which games can and can’t and for what reasons.

As a final thing and this is wild speculation, Bethesda is very very tight lipped about this for which I think are strange reasons. If it’s for purely technical reasons I can’t see a reason to hide this information so vehemently, I mean, they won’t comment AT ALL. I think there has to be some deal with Microsoft in some fashion that made it worth their time not to look into DLC in some manner. Again it’s hard to tell with so little information.

          • yellow_mega_man says:

quote: “The PS3 has less than one-fifth of Xbox 360′s (48 GB/s) of total memory system bandwidth”

I don’t know about you, but I sensed PR bullshit when I read this. So I went looking for the source – it’s from a Microsoft analysis report comparing the Xbox 360 to the PS3. (Can’t find the actual source, sorry.)

The real spec details are: [ref 1]

            * PS3: 25.6 GB/s main memory bandwidth, 22.4 GB/s video memory bandwidth
            * 360: 22.4 GB/s main memory bandwidth, 256 GB/s to eDRAM, 21.6 GB/s FSB

The Microsoft report simply adds up all the numbers and gets 48 Gb/s vs 278.4 Gb/s (for some reason they didn’t add the FSB speed) – so 360 wins! Right? Well, it’s a bit more complex than that.

The PS3 has separate main memory and video memory (256Mb each) while the 360′s main memory is shared between both. So the only numbers above that can really be compared are the PS3′s 25.6 Gb/s & 22.4 Gb/s and the 360′s 22.4 Gb/s. There’s not much difference, is there.

The 360′s 256 Gb/s to eDRAM is due to the 360′s particular architecture, and simply doesn’t exist in the PS3. You can’t just add this value to the other one to get a “total memory bandwidth”. That’s like saying a highway has 6 lanes of bandwith when it has 4 lanes for half of its length and 2 lanes for the other half. It’s bogus! You can’t add the numbers because the bandwidth isn’t in parallel – it’s in series.

You can see PS3 and 360 architecture diagrams in [ref 3] and [ref 4], which are reference from the discussion in [ref 2]. The 360′s eDRAM may have 256Gb/s raw bandwidth, but it doesn’t get to the CPU at this rate – it has to go over the 21.6 Gb/s FSB at some point! The PS3 has a very different architecture, and doesn’t seem to have any equivalent to the 360′s eDRAM.

            Here are my references:

(Disclaimer: I own a PS3, but not a 360. I’m also a computer systems engineer with a decent understanding of computer architectures.)

            • casual_alcoholic says:

I’m Electrical Engineering which is similar, so I’m somewhat ashamed I missed this. Truth be told I didn’t dig that hard. I’m still completely convinced Bethesda has some deal with Microsoft and didn’t put the resources into DLC by choice. They’ve done it before and they can do it again. When they make an official statement saying the PS3 architecture is preventing them from releasing this DLC maybe I won’t call them out, but for now I’m calling shenanigans. I don’t doubt the Sony ISA is a bitch to code but they haven’t made the official statement that that is the reason. So far the only evidence is Garnett’s 30 second comment on a 2 year old 1up show which is hardly valid. Arthur I’m not trying to call bullshit on you or anything but I don’t think it was a legit source. If you have more evidence please provide it.

        • teets says:

When (if) Bethesda releases the game of the year edition of Fallout 3 for all platforms, it will include all of the DLC and everyone will be happy. Although the need to buy another copy of the game for the complete experience sucks fat penis. Sell the one you have now while it still has value!

        • Kamasama says:

Sure Sony should be partially to blame for any CONstraints, but as an engineer I know very well about how you’re always presented with constraints to overcome. Sony may have a hand in it, but Bethesda’s poor design seems to be more to blame since I haven’t seen this problem with other games. Also, your explanation and Garnett’s seem to differ. However, despite the supposed problem they still managed to release Shivering Isles as DLC. Regardless of whether we know money changed hands, we’ve known since E3 that the DLC is exclusive so it might not matter even if they did figure out how to overcome the claimed limitation. The least they could do is release the upcoming final DLC, which seems much more important than the other two.

          • casual_alcoholic says:

At the first announcement of the third DLC pack there was definitely talk about the exclusivity. I didn’t mention it before because I couldn’t find the interview again, but it was mentioned that Bethesda only had a deal for the first 2 packs and the third might come for PS3. Obviously a lot of this goes against all the shit they’re saying now, so I wonder if the article was taken down or edited on Bethesda’s request. If anyone can find this interview shoot me the link.

  11. Kyle576 says:

Tony Hawk 3 was the first online ps2 game. It actually had the ability to go online before sony released the online adapter.

    • cpt shake says:

      True that!

    • David Turner says:

Fact. You beat me to it.

    • Sean2D2 says:

Yea I was going to post this (like it matters though). I remember this so clearly because I pre-ordered the Network Adapter, yet could never get online because Tony Hawk didn’t have enough character spaces to let me put in my e-mail address. I was like one letter to long, drove me crazy. The Network Adapter disc also came with online demos (Frequency, Madden, and I think one other game). It also came with a voucher to get Twisted Metal Black: Online for free. Which ran great online as well.

  12. Philio says:

Martian gravity is 40%, give or take, of earth’s grav. I believe it’s based off mass and atmosphere, not planetary size or distance from the system’s star.

    • sm4k says:

It’s related to the planet’s mass, and the items distance from the center of the planet. Atmosphere doesn’t have any bearing on it unless you want to talk about wind resistance slowing down an object’s fall.

At least I’m pretty sure. IANAPhysicist.

  13. CodyH says:

To Tyler. Ninja Rua’s brother is Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Who I kick Chuck Liddell’s ass with in the demo. May 19th can’t come soon enough.

  14. eVility says:

Am I the only one who had the show get cut off at 1hr 20 minutes. It just ended like in the middle of a sentence?

  15. Grant says:

The force of gravity depends on the mass of the objects in question and distance between them. For anybody who cares the basic equation is (G*m1*m2) / (d^2). G is a constant, m1 and m2 are the masses of the two objects, and d is the distance between the two. So this means the effect gravity will have on you on Mars is (the force earth exerts on you) * (the mass of mars) / (the mass of earth).

So this usually brings up a couple of questions. One, does this mean humans are exerting a gravitational force on earth? Yes, everything with mass has gravity but the mass of the things on earth are so small that it does not effect earth’s movement.

Two, aren’t two things supposed to fall at the same rate if dropped from the same height? Yes, this equation says that something heavier will have more force exerted on it from the gravity of earth but the higher mass also means it requires more force to accelerate at the same rate as something with less mass. And since the increase in force is proportional, a more massive object will fall at the same rate as a less massive object.

I’ll shut the fuck up now.

  16. Iceveiled says:

Wow didn’t think another podcast would be up so soon! Thanks guys.

Happy Friday and may all your peni be fat

    • Chris says:

*Sigh* I tried to resist, but the temptation is too great. The plural of “penis” is either “penises” or “penes” (pronounced pee-nees). Do schools not teach basic grammar any more? Or maybe it’s the schools cutting large chunks out of sex ed. because parents are worried about their poor children. Either way, it’s worrying.

      P.S. Vader is Luke’s father.

      • modern dog says:

I don’t believe the plural form of word penis is considered “basic grammar”

        • Chris says:

          plu·ral
          Pronunciation:
          \ˈplu̇r-əl\
          Function:
          adjective
          Etymology:
Middle English, from Anglo-French & Latin; Anglo-French plurel, from Latin pluralis, from plur-, plus more — more at plus
          Date:
          14th century

1 : of, relating to, or constituting a class of grammatical forms usually used to denote more than one or in some languages more than two

        • Chris says:

Pretty much anything having to do with words and their forms is grammar. Which is great, because you just proved my point.

          • modern dog says:

And you missed mine. The plural form of the word “penis” is probably not going to be touched on in any lesson on grammar in any public school, so for that to be the thing that causes you to throw your hands in the air screaming “what is the world coming to?!?!” is pretty ridiculous.

Also, people say “peni” to be funny.

AND! Stop copying and pasting shit from dictionary.com. We ALL have access to the internet here.

FURTHERMORE I also recommend you check out condemned 2 its a solid game that didn’t get much attention and I think it is very fun.

          • Chris says:

No, people say “peni” because they think they are funny, but they really aren’t. And it’s not from dictionary.com (m-w.com is much faster to type). And I pasted it for Iceveiled’s benefit because he apparently can’t use the internet.

I agree about Condemned 2. Condemned was one of the first 360 games I bought, and I was waiting eagerly for the sequel. I recommend you play Earth Defense Force 2014. Its story and plot are absolutely useless, but it’s pretty fun to blow up gigantic robots and watch your entire screen fill with fire and shrapnel. And I’m sure you can find it cheap, as it has been out for a while and wasn’t very popular.

  17. theDude says:

Wow, RebelFM gravitational theory has a ways to go. Distance from the sun has almost zero impact on the weight of objects on Earth and Mars, and Mars has a lot less gravity than Earth because it’s a good bit smaller than Earth, while Venus (called Earth’s sister planet) is roughly the same size/mass as Earth. So on Venus you’d have roughly the same weight as on Earth, but the sulfuric acid rain would destroy you and anything you brought with you pretty quick.

The RebelFM crew should check out how we sling shot space probes into deep space, it would be most helpful in your education of the most basic physics. Hell, with all of the talk about physics engines, you would think you would have thought a bit more about it. :)

    • modern dog says:

what the fuck is up with the science club hydra showing its fucking nine headed bespectacled ass? I almost agree that you guys shouldn’t talk about science just so I don’t have to read these shitty comments. Who cares people, let it go and peddle your regurgitated google knowledge elsewhere.

I also recommend you all check out condemned 2 its a solid game that didn’t get much attention and I think it is very fun.

      • modern dog says:

also that shitty emoticon thing after your comment made me want to punch your face off.
Like in condemned 2! Its a solid game that didn’t get much attention and I think it is very fun.

What the hell? I didn’t reply to this post!

  18. doug89 says:

The gravity of an object is related to the mass of the object and your distance to the centre of gravity of the object. It has nothing to do with the sun.

  19. GodFarts says:

Hey guys, I just wanted to point out that there WAS in fact a Halo demo at one point in time. It came with Crackdown back when that released and made many people buy the game just for the demo. They later found that Crackdown was an awesome game and felt guilty that they bought the game initially for the Halo 3 demo (Beta test of course). They then proceeded to stab themselves in the face with a knife, obviously. Sorry if I sounded like an asshole for making that (was) with all caps by the way. I also have a late prediction that Microsoft might release Crackdown 2 footage might possibly be revealed. I doubt it will be playable of course but it’s a possibility that footage might be there. Keep up the good work with the podcast guys! P.S. Tyler doesn’t have a dumb voice.

  20. Iceveiled says:

    WOOKIE STUFF

The part about the Chewbacca tattoo was fucking hilarious! I was taking a gulp of water and I started laughing and water was coming out of my nose.

Anyway, I opened up an incognito window in Chrome since I’m at work, and googled “wookie sex organs”. I don’t know what I was thinking because all I got were results about human sex organs. There will be further research at home. So yeah, Chewie’s dong remains an enigma for now. But yeah, they are bipedal and covered in hair and therefore I guess they could be considered mammal, so he must have external genitilia.

It would be disappointing if Chewbacca had a small dick.

But I did find this out, which is pretty interesting: “Although albino Wookiees were rare, they were not unheard of. However, such a birth was generally held to be a bad omen, as white hair did not blend in with the earth-tones of their forest surroundings.”

  21. James says:

    Fat Penis sirs,

I know like something like five other people have already mentioned this, but it really ticked me off. As Grant pointed out already the force of gravity is proportional to the mass of the objects and inversely proportional to their distance.

So yes the farther away from the sun the less gravitational effect it has, but only in attraction to it. So (theoretical) tides on mars would be less extreme than on Earth, but this has nothing with your attraction to the planet.

Because Mars is Roughly 1/3 the mass of Earth; your, or anyone’s, weight when on mars would be roughly 1/3. So a 150 LB would only weigh 50 LB on mars.

Although it is fun to listen to your podcasts, just stop talking about science. You do it almost every episode, and are almost always wrong. Your collective liberal arts education is clear. Stick to what you do best, and take a page from other great podcasts, just give up and ask your listeners for answers.

    • Bruce! Chalupa says:

…or take full advantage Google (like Patrick Klepek did with pegging!), and avoid scathing comments from people who clearly get upset when someone misquotes science. Relax, folks.

      • James says:

That made me laugh so hard when he looked that up. I got very funny looks in the break room.

As an aside, as far as an E3 announcement I am desperately hoping for an announcement on the Zune HD, and HOPEFULLY new connectivity between the Zune and Xbox. Am I the only one who remembered that job posting?\

A further aside, I half suspect the rebel FM team of spouting off bad science to nerds, to drive page views and replies.

    • Nick says:

Tides are caused by the Moon not the Sun. Mars has two small moons and no oceans.

  22. Jody says:

Thanks, guys. Thirty is the new awesome!

  23. Iceveiled says:

Do we really need 20 corrections about the gravity issue?

    • Gworth says:

Heh, yeah, I was going to post if no-one else had, but, wow, half the posts, Gravity. Not even nice Gravity corrections. Angry, offended Gravity corrections. Calm down, folks.

AAAAAAALSO nice podcast! Again. So far, haven’t finished listening yet. Also, you should probably introduce the cats at the start of the episode with the rest of the cast. It’s not like they’re shying away from active participation.

  24. tvt says:

RebelFM Drinking Game: Take a drink every time …

  30. Kinnon Yee says:

Look, I think Bethesda is a great company, but that’s a pretty BS kind of excuse for not having that DLC on the PS3. It’s the first time I’ve ever heard about any company complaining about technical issues not allowing them to have DLC on the PS3. Then again, the PS3 was a pretty messed up version of Fallout 3, so I can’t say whether it’s just simply a Bethesda coding issue or whatnot. I think if we heard or saw more companies having trouble releasing DLC on the PS3, I’d be more inclined to believe them, but for now, it’s pretty ridiculous. I just think about how Burnout Paradise, Rockband, and other games have done more complicated DLC on 360 and PS3 without trouble, and just can’t believe that Bethesda has trouble.

  31. Michael P. says:

Good show this week guys, keep it up.

As far as MAG goes, Planetside says hi.

    • Chris says:

I don’t know. MAG looks like it will be on a smaller scale for individual battles, at least. Being on the PS3 will make it different, as well. I’ve also seen some of the elements they were talking about before in Battlefield 2142. There was a commander who called in orbital strikes and supply drops, and troops could form squads. Squad mates could spawn on the leader via drop pods, and leaders could set specific goals/goal areas that would give squad members bonus points for completing. I was a BF2142 junkie for a while, so this intrigues me.

  32. For next week’s question, I thought it’d be interesting if you cover piracy. Is piracy as ethically wrong as shoplifting? Why don’t people condemn each other for piracy on the same level? I tell a friend I pirated a movie and he shrugs my should, but if I tell him I shoplifted it at Walmart he’d lose his shit and give me a speech over how wrong that is..well, maybe not if it’s Walmart. lol. Furthermore, do you think when Developers like Tim Schafer or, more recently, the Zeno Clash team come out and make a plea with torrent sites that it has an effect on pirates. I posted some of my own thoughts in a recent blog entry (http://playthroughs.com/playthroughs/2009/5/2/among-thieveswhy-piracy-never-feels-wrong.html) and would like to hear your thoughts on this subject on the show. Thanks!

    Re: Silent Hill tattoo

I don’t know whether or not Anthony is going to read this (probably not), but the Mark of Samael is pretty much the iconic symbol in the franchise. You’ll recognize it as the save point, in case you forgot

I think it’d make a good tattoo, though maybe it appears to be a bit too goth on a first glance.

Hey guys, I have a question for next week

What are your thoughts about Konami dropping ”Six days in Falujah” ?

I think you guys should read this article ; [Url]http://www.destructoid.com/six-days-of-falluja-dev-asks-if-we-re-just-making-toys-130647.phtml[/url]

They made some comments about games not being JUST toys but i remember reading another article where they stated the EXACT opposite. So are they just trying to save their game or where they actually trying to make a decent game where the story actually meant something?

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the hard work!

Great show, but I just don’t see how you can call Georgia the second dumbest state in America behind Alabama. If anything, Mississippi is at the bottom with Alabama close behind it. I am sure Tennessee and some midwestern states that could follow those two before Georgia even enters the mix. I will concede that we belong somewhere near the bottom as it is our fault that Crunk exists.

Anthony and Arthur, do you two always bicker like that? If so, how do you make it through *one* day without killing each other?

      Make-up sex.

XaiaX probably sounds like a drug name because of Xanax, which I was not aware of until long after I’d been using this handle. (starting around, uh, damn, 15 years ago).

XaiaX can be used as a treatment for mild to severe cases of MCD*. It may be administered as a rectal or vaginal suppository, or for acute cases oral administration accompanied by a protein supplement may be prescribed. XaiaX may be habit forming and can lead to unintended effects such as: soreness, swelling, difficulty walking, nicotine cravings, and compulsive telecommunications use. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are warned against using XaiaX. Extended use of XaiaX may lead to development of a tolerance, at which point a variation in usage method is suggested. XaiaX may be less effective when used with alcohol, so caution is advised.

XaiaX is available without a prescription, but please consult your doctor before using XaiaX in order to discover any existing conditions that may lead to conflicts or complications.

You can go back and get the bobble-head in Vault 101. There is a mission later, that you receive through a Radio Transmission while in Megaton, where you can get back into Vault 101. However,

    POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!

that is your last chance you will have to get it.

Great podcast once again, and great choice of music for the intermissions well mostly As I lay dying.

I have a question about MAG, I’m sure your tired of talking about it, but as you said (either here or at Gamespy) the army has a commander that can bring in supplies, and select targets for the squads or platoons. Anyway I was wondering if this person plays in a top down RTS view, or is he still playing the game as a shooter?

Say something!
