Great podcast once again, and great choice of music for the intermissions well mostly As I lay dying.

I have a question about MAG, I'm sure your tired of talking about it, but as you said (either here or at Gamespy) the army has a commander that can bring in supplies, and select targets for the squads or platoons. Anyway I was wondering if this person plays in a top down RTS view, or is he still playing the game as a shooter?

It's related to the planet's mass, and the items distance from the center of the planet. Atmosphere doesn't have any bearing on it unless you want to talk about wind resistance slowing down an object's fall.

At least I'm pretty sure. IANAPhysicist.

You can go back and get the bobble-head in Vault 101. There is a mission later, that you receive through a Radio Transmission while in Megaton, where you can get back into Vault 101. However,

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!!

that is your last chance you will have to get it.

I'm Electrical Engineering which is similar, so I'm somewhat ashamed I missed this. Truth be told I didn't dig that hard. I'm still completely convinced Bethesda has some deal with Microsoft and didn't put the resources into DLC by choice. They've done it before and they can do it again. When they make an official statement saying the PS3 architecture is preventing them from releasing this DLC maybe I won't call them out, but for now I'm calling shenanigans. I don't doubt the Sony ISA is a bitch to code but they haven't made the official statement that that is the reason. So far the only evidence is Garnett's 30 second comment on a 2 year old 1up show which is hardly valid. Arthur I'm not trying to call bullshit on you or anything but I don't think it was a legit source. If you have more evidence please provide it.

Mars is much smaller than Earth gravity on Mars is about 40% of what it is on Earth. Why would the distance from the sun have any effect on Mars's gravity. Also Mars doesn't have a breathable atmosphere and the dude in the demo doesn't have a helmet.

If they are going to make a game set on Mars why not take advantage of the setting and give the characters a low gravity gait and have jets of condensation shoot out of enemies' helmets when I get a head shot. Every Sci-Fi video game seems to be really low-brow with humanoid aliens etc. How about some hard sci-fi games?

At the first announcement of the third DLC pack there was definitely talk about the exclusivity. I didn't mention it before because I couldn't find the interview again, but it was mentioned that Bethesda only had a deal for the first 2 packs and the third might come for PS3. Obviously a lot of this goes against all the shit they're saying now, so I wonder if the article was taken down or edited on Bethesda's request. If anyone can find this interview shoot me the link.

Sure Sony should be partially to blame for any CONstraints, but as an engineer I know very well about how you're always presented with constraints to overcome. Sony may have a hand in it, but Bethesda's poor design seems to be more to blame since I haven't seen this problem with other games. Also, your explanation and Garnett's seem to differ. However, despite the supposed problem they still managed to release Shivering Isles as DLC. Regardless of whether we know money changed hands, we've known since E3 that the DLC is exclusive so it might not matter even if they did figure out how to overcome the claimed limitation. The least they could do is release the upcoming final DLC, which seems much more important than the other two.

quote: "The PS3 has less than one-fifth of Xbox 360's (48 GB/s) of total memory system bandwidth"

I don't know about you, but I sensed PR bullshit when I read this. So I went looking for the source - it's from a Microsoft analysis report comparing the Xbox 360 to the PS3. (Can't find the actual source, sorry.)

The real spec details are: [ref 1]

* PS3: 25.6 GB/s main memory bandwidth, 22.4 GB/s video memory bandwidth
* 360: 22.4 GB/s main memory bandwidth, 256 GB/s to eDRAM, 21.6 GB/s FSB

The Microsoft report simply adds up all the numbers and gets 48 Gb/s vs 278.4 Gb/s (for some reason they didn't add the FSB speed) - so 360 wins! Right? Well, it's a bit more complex than that.

The PS3 has separate main memory and video memory (256Mb each) while the 360's main memory is shared between both. So the only numbers above that can really be compared are the PS3's 25.6 Gb/s & 22.4 Gb/s and the 360's 22.4 Gb/s. There's not much difference, is there.

The 360's 256 Gb/s to eDRAM is due to the 360's particular architecture, and simply doesn't exist in the PS3. You can't just add this value to the other one to get a "total memory bandwidth". That's like saying a highway has 6 lanes of bandwith when it has 4 lanes for half of its length and 2 lanes for the other half. It's bogus! You can't add the numbers because the bandwidth isn't in parallel - it's in series.

You can see PS3 and 360 architecture diagrams in [ref 3] and [ref 4], which are reference from the discussion in [ref 2]. The 360's eDRAM may have 256Gb/s raw bandwidth, but it doesn't get to the CPU at this rate - it has to go over the 21.6 Gb/s FSB at some point! The PS3 has a very different architecture, and doesn't seem to have any equivalent to the 360's eDRAM.

XaiaX probably sounds like a drug name because of Xanax, which I was not aware of until long after I'd been using this handle. (starting around, uh, damn, 15 years ago).

--

XaiaX can be used as a treatment for mild to severe cases of MCD*. It may be administered as a rectal or vaginal suppository, or for acute cases oral administration accompanied by a protein supplement may be prescribed. XaiaX may be habit forming and can lead to unintended effects such as: soreness, swelling, difficulty walking, nicotine cravings, and compulsive telecommunications use. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant are warned against using XaiaX. Extended use of XaiaX may lead to development of a tolerance, at which point a variation in usage method is suggested. XaiaX may be less effective when used with alcohol, so caution is advised.

XaiaX is available without a prescription, but please consult your doctor before using XaiaX in order to discover any existing conditions that may lead to conflicts or complications.

Anthony and Arthur, do you two always bicker like that? If so, how do you make it through *one* day without killing each other?

Great show, but I just don't see how you can call Georgia the second dumbest state in America behind Alabama. If anything, Mississippi is at the bottom with Alabama close behind it. I am sure Tennessee and some midwestern states that could follow those two before Georgia even enters the mix. I will concede that we belong somewhere near the bottom as it is our fault that Crunk exists.

Hey guys, I have a question for next week

What are your thoughts about Konami dropping ''Six days in Falujah'' ?

I think you guys should read this article ; [Url]http://www.destructoid.com/six-days-of-falluja-dev-asks-if-we-re-just-making-toys-130647.phtml[/url]

They made some comments about games not being JUST toys but i remember reading another article where they stated the EXACT opposite. So are they just trying to save their game or where they actually trying to make a decent game where the story actually meant something?

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the hard work!

I don't know. MAG looks like it will be on a smaller scale for individual battles, at least. Being on the PS3 will make it different, as well. I've also seen some of the elements they were talking about before in Battlefield 2142. There was a commander who called in orbital strikes and supply drops, and troops could form squads. Squad mates could spawn on the leader via drop pods, and leaders could set specific goals/goal areas that would give squad members bonus points for completing. I was a BF2142 junkie for a while, so this intrigues me.
