Rebel FM PAX Back to School Special!

As we dragged our semi-swine flu’ed carcasses back across the California border, we finished a special little podcast just for you! In the first section (recorded from the comfort of our hotel room) we discuss the games we saw at PAX both hands-on and from afar, including Mass Effect 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, Shank, Death Spank, L4D2, and a lot more. Then, as recorded in a piece of metal hurtling down Interstate 5, we talk about our human experiences at PAX, including our thrilling, truck stop drama on the way up to Seattle. We apologize for the sound quality in the second segment, since, you know, recorded in a moving vehicle, but, well, you don’t HAVE to listen, do you? Mobile penis!

This Week’s Music, in order of appearance:

Nine Inch Nails – 1,000,000

I gave Arthur some shit for “carcases” but it’s apparently an extant variant, even appearing in the KJV. He’s JUST THAT LITERATE.

  2. Kyle says:

Just wanted to say thank you for letting me stop you guys in the middle of the show room floor and say hi. I really appreciated that.

  3. Justin says:

Hey, could you guys hold another contest for a new theme song? The current one is terrible and it’s really annoying having to skip it each week. Of all the songs you played, the Flogging Molly rip-off was, by far, the worst… at least rip off a good band.

  4. Roy says:

Yay it’s up! Downloading right now, probably gonna fall asleep to Arthur’s beautiful voice. I’m so tired right now from work. Thanks guys! Keep up the great work!

  5. JDV says:

My eye brows arched when Arthur mentioned Dreamfall during the brief discussion of adventure games and Dlc.

Dreamfall is one of my favorite adventure titles. Has anyone else here played it? I’d love a sequel (or at least anything from the mysterious episodic Dreamfall project).

However, I fear that a new Dreamfall game would flounder in both retail and dlc marketspaces.

    • tvt says:

I started playing it, and actually really liked it, but other games just started demanding my attention more. Love that talking monkey robot! I’d love to go back to it for a game club.

    • Adam says:

I love Dreamfall, and I wish the episodic sequel we were promised years ago was out now.

  6. Mista-Anand says:

Mobile penises are sometimes better because it’s different. It’s good to have a crappy quality podcast now and then, because you start to appreciate the good ones a lot more. Please guys, continue to record crappy ones. I love the sound of eating too. Restaurant podcasts are also appreciated. :-)

  7. Courtney says:

The coloring on my Rebel FM shirt changed from yellow to red in one spot. That happen to anyone else?

  8. NEOSIMKIN says:

lol mobile penis. Seriously doesn’t get old! =D

  9. Courtney says:

“as recorded in a piece of metal hurtling down Interstate 5″,
    Wow this podcast sounds awesome!

  10. HoLeY says:

Question – was anyone able to play Jumpgate Evolution at PAX? This was the first time I had heard about that game…and I signed up for the beta…but I’m almost as excited for this game as Starcraft 2.

  11. Chris says:

The Lost Planet 2 Demo has indeed been out for a few weeks, but, like your PAX experience, it’s not really that fun without three other competent people to play with you.

  12. Tyler Barber Fan says:

Another classic episode from the Rebels!!!

  13. All the hateration on the theme song is so wrong! You’re entitled to your opinion, but whatever happened to “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all”?

Tyler: I’m a southern gent too, and while I don’t own slaves or drink mint juleps on the front porch, I do believe in the southern tradition of BEING POLITE, no matter if someone deserves it or not! Okay, done ranting. Now off to listen to new Rebel FM!

  14. Gert says:

Great, but i got to stop listening to this when i’m driving.
Laughing spasms while driving. Not really safe.

    Anyway.

    Penis wart.

  15. PoopSockLife says:

Man i live in the area but didnt get to goto pax, but the Gameworks meet was great! Its was awesome to meet all of you.. and thanks for the raffle… orange box fleece keepin it toasty! k.s. sea-town

    rusty trombone!

  16. tvt says:

Yay! Tyler Barber’s byline on the top 2 GameSpy.com articles!

  17. Trejik says:

Awesome. I don’t care much for audio quality, but quality comedy and video game discussions I do care for, and I’m willing to bet this will have both in ample supply.

I am going to PAX next year. And Gamescom. Next year is my gaming year! Might even be getting shwag since it seems I’m getting an at home job doing articles and reviews for a Spanish gaming site. SPANIARD PENIS!

  18. Davin says:

Hey, Tyler, was I one of the clowns you were referring to when you played Lost Planet and two guys didn’t know what to do?

  19. Justin says:

Hey Arthur, speaking of songs (I like the theme song now, btw) what’s the deal with the interstitial songs? I was under the impression that you couldn’t really include copywritten material in a podcast.

Do you use stuff with open licensing, or is it that you guys are such a small operation that they won’t really care (that, and you guys always credit and link the songs)?

I’ve looked around online and it seems that this is sort of a grey area in podcasting. But if I recall correctly, you have a degree in something new media-ish. Any insight would be great.

  20. Steven [Naota_391] says:

Man, is there some kind of unsettled tension between Anthony and Arthur? I think both of them are funny and offer good insight, but shit, I always squirm in my chair with discomfort when I hear Anthony trying to 1up Arthur every 30 seconds like he’s Mario or something. Is that just part of the roommate thing, or what? The irritable-ness and constant corrections between the two of them sort of brings down the mood for me. =/ Just smack penises and get along, plox?

    • Chris says:

I felt that tension at one point. I can’t remember what they were talking about but it ended with Arthur saying something like “I don’t see how that undermines my point.” They either hate each other or they’re so close they don’t have to really worry about offending each other.

  21. Chris says:

Great podcast as ever guys, thanks.

  22. sickVisionz says:

Good podcast. I’d also like to throw in a technical tip: bass cut is your friend. Especially when you’re recording in a car with a constant low end rumbling the entire time.

  23. Jordan C. says:

NPR has a story about “theRword.org”
Thought about you guys when I heard the story:

You might read that url right, boy born with penis on his back.
Thought it would be a good carry on from episodes 28 and the tail dick jokes, lol.

  25. The Trevor That Cut In Line says:

Just want to send an apology out to those that I cut in line at the bar at the RFM meetup on Friday. In my defense, the bartender probably should have pointed out the line BEFORE serving me the shots of whiskey. Didn’t realize there was a line until after the fact, so sorry. :(

And yes, I’d already had a few at the CO-OP meetup prior to joining the RFM shindig. :)

Also, the theme song is incredible.

  26. Will Christiansen says:

I played Battlefield with Tyler and he was no tournement winning shooter jesus. I’m calling shenanigoats on Dice letting the journalists take home the nice shiny prize.

Just kidding you guys are all awesome and Tyler is kinda a Jesus-like person.

  27. Anthony says:

Man, I apologize, I really didn’t think I was doing the whole “1upping” thing to Arthur. I have really been trying to keep that shit in check in my head. Sometimes I do let my outside life and irritation at things trickle into the show, and that’s not fair to Arthur or to you guys who listen.

It is hard being around anyone all the time, especially when they’re such an integrated part of your life as living together AND working together on a project your both incredibly passionate about, but that’s not cool of me to keep bringing a grating quality to the show that you guys keep noticing. Sorry everyone, I’ll try to make sure when I open my mouth it’s to be constructive and/or funny.

    -Chuf

    • @fragtastic says:

      Yo Chuf.
Big props for answering the haters.
Dick sucking aside, I have to say that I feel you do tend to 1-Up Arthur a lot and yet passively roll along with Tylor. For right or for wrong it is a perception that comes across at the end of each Podcast. Knowing that you and Arthur live together, for me as a listener gives me some more freedom and flexibility since I have an “undderstanding” of your relationship, not in any way to say I know your relationship. For me I find it both amusing and entertaining at the same level, Arthur is both intelligent and vocal enough to speak for him self against you and those moments of discourse I find truly interesting. Essentially, when you podcast there are three/four strong characters in the room that want to be both heard and understood and equally have a right to do so. As listeners I think it should be up to us to filter the “like” from the “dislike”. Anyways what I’m trying to say is that the discourse you guys share with us is both insightful and most importantly amusing. Those haters out there that seem to have a go at Arthur-to you I say FUCK OFF, go listen to something else, your critisism is neither valid nor constructive, just vindictive.

Tylor,Arthur, and Anthony keep it up, I dont want to be watching memoirs of the good old days of RBL FM at a PAX panel coming to you soon.

  28. Bastich says:

Nice of you guys to make a show for us despite the fatigue and sickness.

  29. naruto180 says:

Nice show! It was cool you guys doing a show while driving back home. That was totally hardcore! :)

  30. Bouke says:

Awesome show! The quality isn’t that bad!? Just a comment on the Mass Effect discussion, ME2 was playable for the public at Gamescom. It was the section with the alien mercenary, i played it and thought it looked really good.

  31. UncleGramps says:

Regarding the Mythbusters/fart comment: they actually covered some fart myths, including the one about suffocating due to excessive farting:
