It’s a shorter show this week, but Tyler, Arthur and myself have found some time to do a shorter show for you. This week’s show is a single, hour long segment that covers GDC. Join us as we discuss games like Lara Croft and Transformers, as well as give some initial PlayStation Move impressions.
Enjoy!

Ryan Scott was wrong, Rebel FM lives on!
“It’s a shorter show this week, but Tyler, Arthur and myself have found some time to do a shorter show for you.”
This is specifically designed to drive Matt crazy, isn’t it? =D
Oh and the ads on the site are still pretty whack Arthur, AIDS and Meditation is what I’m seeing.
Any update on the start of the Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory game club?
Several hours ago I bothered Arthur into telling me when this was going up because I wanted to go to sleep. He encouraged me to sleep. I sit here defiant. Balls out and about to listen to your dulcet tones. (not related but definitely synergetic in some way)
I submit that rather than calling this duration “shorter,” call it “Geekbox length.”
I second this.
Argh! Not showing up on my iPod. Guess I gotta my lazy ass off the couch and get on my computer. *sighs*
Awesome! Thanks guys!
what was the song at the end of the show?
I wondered the same. Googling lyrics got me here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L8aztkrK5JY
It’s florence and the machine – the gift
at least, thats what i remember it being
sweeet.awesome night tonight.first a midnight showing of Battle Royal at my theater.and now a new RFM..AWESOME!!!!!!!
Yessssss Tyler! I’ve been playing cortex command for three years now! I’m surprised you didn’t mention the massive mod community, though. There has been some real innovation thanks to the tight community the game has.
As always, thanks for the ‘cast, folks!
Yea man, I’m new to the game so I didn’t know there was a mod community behind it.
Well snap, son! Modding CC is half the fun. http://forums.datarealms.com/
Hmm.. I’m not so sure about the removal unit stacking in Civ V. I think I would’ve preferred some kind of system similar to Heros of Might and Magic if they were determined to make the combat more complex.
Nice to hear that Deus Ex 3 is looking good
but did you guys see if there was any inventory, and a lot of world interaction in general? I know BioShock was supposed to carry forth the legacy of System Shock 2 (so in some ways Deus Ex) but it really didn’t do it for me, it was too much of a pure shooter so I really hope Deus Ex 3 has more varied gameplay and more world interaction.
Thank you so much for recording even though your all busy. I really appreciate what you guys do. Keep up the good work.
Great podcast as ever guys, although it’d be great if Arthur let us know what he thinks about Modern Warfare 2, as he never mentions it
Website got hacked?
-Seriously, you guys need a redesign. Something minimalistic (like this http://monome.org/faq)
-Get rid of the stupidly large Killzone background.
-Keep the newspaper layout, that’s excellent.
-The Twitter flash apps don’t work, before that they loaded slowly, dump those. Use twitter links instead.
-Some top links don’t work from some pages of the website.
-On the bottom it says “FROM THE CREATORS OF THE 1UP SHOW”
this isn’t true anymore.
You could ask Matt Chandronait. He seems to know alot about making websites, just look at Area5.
I know you guys are very busy, but hopefully this can be resolved.
You see, I’m extremely interested in the prospects of what PlayStation Move will do, but the tech demos posing as games seemed to not fill me with much confidence. However, time will tell as to whether the software backs up the hardware in the end. Maybe E3 will provide us with updated demos that both wow and impress, and don’t just appear to be Wii games in HD.
I just don’t have the money to buy peripherals. Right now Natal is hard sell for me as well. It better be outstanding for me to go out and buy it!
Arthur and Anthony, you guys don’t have to explain yourselves. If you’re too busy to do podcasts just say “we’re busy handling job shit, bitches” and leave it at that. We understand.
That said, thanks for recording one despite being busy.
All I want to say is that it was a pleasure meeting Mr. Barber. Next year, I suggest the group of you go to Gamma if you aren’t pressed by deadlines (unlikely). It was some of the most fun I had during the entire trip.
I’ll be sure to bring some business cards the next time around.
Hello Guys. Before I say anything, let me state that I am a PC Gamer, and have no allegiance to either of the consoles. But I do own both a 360 and a PS3, and feel like I can give an unbiased opinion on the subject matter. On to my point, while listening to the podcast I was disgusted at how you guys seemed to gang up on Sony’s motion controller. I can see how you would look at it and not be impressed (I am not going to buy one either) but to gang up on them like was very unprofessional, especially for paid journalist. You made it sound as if Sony is an idiotic company, who are run by bufoons that can’t get anything right. I have no interest in buying a Move, but from what I hear I is solidly built product and works as advertised. But of course, when the discussion went to to microsoft and Natal, you guys couldn’t control your enthusiasm. You went on about how Microsoft was always so innovative and reliable. I for one can not get excited about Natal until I know it works like it is supposed to. Keep in mind, Microsoft doesn’t have the best track record. They spent billions developing Vista only to have it be one of the worst OS that I have ever used. The 360 (while having some nice games) is probably the least reliable console ever created. Heck, there is even a video of windows 98 crashing on Bill Gates on live T.V. I don’t know if you guys listen to the 1 up podcast but David Ellis has mentioned that Natal may be gimped in order to sell it for cheap, and that he has heard that developers are having trouble with the latency. Of course, I wouldn’t be disgusted if this podcast wasn’t always so biased towards the xbox. Being biased towards any console is stupid and something I would never expect from smart, grown men in their 20′s (possibly 30′s?) Sorry for the wall of text and thank you for all the hours of free entertainment.
This was made for you

My name is Jose Ortiz and I approve kyrieee’s link.
“I was disgusted”
Really?
I am digusted and repulsed. Console warriors disguising themselves as PC Gamers, what is the world coming too!
Also bravo Concerned in Cleveland for an awesome fakepost.
Clowning on Sony and the PS3/PSP isn’t particularly new with Rebel FM, unfortunately.
In reply to Concerned in Cleveland…. Please eat a PHAT PENIS leprechaun surprise cheese sandwich! Good day sir.
Once again, great choice to include a song from Florence & The Machine.
I value the 3 of your opinions, and even as a Sony fanboy, I would agree with your general apprehension towards The Move at this current stage. All of your points about that were valid and sounded honest. The only thing I could find fault with was the feature set. Things I’ve read online made it sound much better than you gave it credit for. E3 will give everyone a better opportunity to judge it though.
Arthur Gies is the kind of guy that goes to art school, learns about color theory and the 3 point perspective, then comes out calling himself an artist. He’s the kind of person who is very neurotic and self aware but over compensates disguising it by trying to act aloof and making jokes hoping nobody notices. He’s the type of dude who would try to pull off wearing a beret and call glasses, “spectacles” in order to sound smart and worldly. You know that guy that hates when people talk about things he doesn’t know anything about, then tries to bring the conversation back to what he thinks about the things that he does knows about, that’s Arthur. He’s self congratulatory, insecure, and sad. He often confuses opinion with fact, and makes incorrect assumptions. Anthony and Tyler are awesome.
I find it amusing that you’re trying to have a go at Arthur but none of the things you cite are in any way as dickish as the thing you just spent your free time writing on an internet comments section.
If it wasn’t for Arthur I doubt this site and Rebel FM would have lasted beyond the first few post 1up shows. You clearly like the show (as you’re still listening) so just shut the fuck up.
Hey look, a white knight. How sweet.
Seriously… you are judging a guy based on the podcast he (co)provides for you weekly? Why not calm down and enjoy the podcast or just not listen?
If someone wanted to judge you based off the two comments I see here, I don’t think you’d be a sterling example of a human either.
PS – Thanks for the show guys, busy and all. It was a surprise!
I’m not, I’m a creep. I do enjoy the 2/3 of the podcast. So for the most part, I’m a fan.
He also has the power to completely block your IP address from ever commenting here. Total dick, that guy.
Naturally. After all, who likes to be criticized? Though, most adults learn to take criticism and address it instead of immediately wielding their cudgel and pretending all is well in fantasyland.
I’m totally fine with being criticized. I’m less fine with someone acting like an asshole. I am amused that you tried to post from at least 3 different IP addresses.
Another top quality fakepost. The beret thing gave you away though.
Fox News = Right wing conservatives
This latest podcast = Xbox fan boys wet dream!
I know the podcast is all about three guys opinions on gaming news, I get it, but the over the top praising of Natal and Microsoft was disturbing. Give a listen to Giant Bomb, they seem to know how to throw down on a microphone.
http://video.adultswim.com/frisky-dingo/fuzzy-little-fruit.html
BooSH!
Natal doesn’t provide proper feedback nor is it very accurate.
Being in control is fun, that’s why pc gamers don’t use controllers to play COD.
It’s like an fighterjet pilot would trade his stick for Natal.
Natal, Wii and Playstation Fleshlight are something to lower the bar so that other people can game as well.
Now we haul in a bunch of people who don’t know anything about games and they’ll start to talk to me about their Wii Fit workouts. I would never dare to talk to them about the latest COD4 level i reached. It’s just more dumb people trying to find a spot on the beach. And ,yes ,it’s for everyone, but know the 10 year olds are stepping on me. And the 60 year fat lady thinks she looks good in a thong.
And it probably won’t take long before the market splits and one part dies out like pc did. The “hardcore” market. The casual market is little investment and lotsof dumb consumers.
It’s easy money. It’s the fucking infomercial gamemarket.
We won’t stop gaming we’ll just be slowly forced to the side.
Natal and Playstation Eye. One of these can read the motions of the subject in frame faster and has a faster refresh rate. The other one has not come out yet. How would Milo react to this…
Also just wanted to point how weird is it going to be seeing a Square Enix label on Thief 4 and Dues Ex.
Sorry, I missed.
I just thought I would point out that Eidos Montreal is also currently working on Thief 4. I also find it interesting that the original Thief and Dues Ex were made by the same studio (Ion Storm) back in the day. Does this mean success that they are repeating history or are we doomed for a bastardization of our favorite series? I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they can capture the magic of the series’

I think it’s pretty clear how Move and Natal will be presented come release time in the Fall: Move is designed to be in direct competition with the Wii, whereas Natal will be pitched as a unique kind of gaming experience.
Therefore, rather than gauging the success of Move and Natal based on a direct comparison of the two, the more critical questions come this Fall will be: (1)Is the Playstation Move successfully tapping into the Wii market of consumers, and/or converting PS3 gamers into “motion gamers”? and (2)Is Microsoft successfully establishing Natal as an innovative, enticing product both for current and potential 360 owners?
We’ll have to wait and see the software lineups and sales figures (particularly for the 2010 holiday period) before we can begin to describe either product as a success/failure, but it’s certainly interesting to see how Sony is setting its sights on the Wii and how Microsoft is setting its sights on establishing the “next great thing” in gaming.
So like, who the fuck cares about Natal? Like it’s so fucking better than either the Move or Wii.
So Natal is just a camera with, no controller. Yeah, I really want to stand in front of that, flailing my arms and legs around trying to simulate some bullshit. Yeah, I really want to hold my hands up, clutching the air like it were a steering wheel in a Burnout game, with both arms outstretched for long periods of time. Yeah, that’s fun, definitely funner than the Move. Nah. But, moving menus, now that’s what I want to do. Trying to navigate intricate webs of menus with my sturdy index finger is way easier than an analog stick or directional pad. That innovation alone makes it better than the Move.
Who cares that the Move mimics the Wii, while appearing to improve upon its foundation. We don’t want more precise aiming and movement. We don’t want feedback captured from the camera displayed onscreen in real-time. We certainly don’t want everything a Wii is with top tier high def graphics, that I know for certain.
I own a Wii, but havent touched it in over a year. I own a 360 and PS3, but am not interested in either of their new motion solutions. Point is, you guys’ failure of Move bias is a failure to listeners.
PS: love the show
I’m amused at the reaction to our take on Move, which, from what I’ve seen around (and heard from friends who also do podcasts), is not a particularly unique position. It has nothing to do with a “bias” against Sony, it has to do with how poorly Move showed.
Perhaps I just don’t get the overall consensus of the two..
hataz gunna hate…
Personally, whenever someone mentions Natal or Move or anything like that, I switch my ears off. I like playing games with a controller and I also have a Wii so if I really want to do motion control, I’ll just play that. It just doesn’t appeal to me.
Also, people on the internet confuse ‘previews’ with ‘reviews’ and ragenaught about stupid bullshit anyway. Obviously, you guys didn’t see anything about Move and are just bias against Sony. The podcast is your perfect anti-PS3 platform. It’s totally not your reactions to what you saw or anything. The trolls are right >:|
It’s Monday morning here in Montreal and I am listening to the podcast. Props to you guys by the way I totally enjoy your show and always look forward to listening to a new one. I have owned both an XBOX 360 and a PS3, I defaulted to the PS3 because of the type of games I wanted access to which at the time were not accessible on an XBOX 360. I am also an adult and I can look at situations objectively. I completely understand your opinions on Move and that of Natal. In my opinion, I think that all it will boil down to in the end are the games. I am skeptical of both ideas and I for one am not really seeing the potential for gaming at least for the hardcore as of yet in either interfaces, cause that’s what they are an extended interface of each system. I will wait until it comes out to form my opinion on each, but alas I am an old school gamer and something about playing alone on my sofa appeals to me, motion controls, natal, etc seems like something I can do with friends. Let’s hope that we are not forced to completely play games using Natal or the move, cause we all know how “Lair” worked out where as something like “Folklore” made sense. It should not be tacked on but something properly integrated, like a fat penis in a wholesome …
As I said on the show, so far, the only thing I’ve seen of Natal that I’m interested in are the interface options for the dashboard, etc. I’ve yet to see a game that I thought looked great.
Personally, I’m completely disinterested in Natal/Move. Fuck the Wii. It’s the first nintendo console I’ve never purchased. Most of the games are bullshit and I don’t particularly like spazzing out with wii motion controls.
I exercise regularly to stay in shape. When i want to game, I want to sit my ass down on the couch and relax with controller in hand. Only my thumbs need a workout..sometimes other fingers.
Sixaxis is mostly a joke. I can think of two games where I didn’t HATE it’s implementation. Heavy Rain and Heavenly Sword.
Enough with this motion control/minority report wannabe bullshit already. There’s my two cents.
man, i started to comment about how the previous comments are out of control. and still, getting personal with Arthur is ridiculous and un-called-for. i never agree with him, and i think he often says crazy shit, but that one guy posting from a bunch of different IPs is a straight dork.
that said, as i’m listening more to the show, you guys really do go into a Sony bash-fest. it was literally all negative Sony talk, all positive Microsoft talk.
i mean, whatever, i’ve come to expect it from RFM. and people being “disgusted” by your opinions is silly, and of course i’ll still keep listening because you’re all still entertaining. but, i do feel like you guys went a little too far in your Sony bashing.
It was a show about GDC. Sony was the only one that showed anything new.
For a split-second, I started to get upset at the anti-Move/Anti-Sony discussion, but then I sat back and asked myself, “Am I gonna actually buy this nonsense hardware?” It makes perfect sense that Sony and MS would want to grab some dough from Nintendo’s casual gamer market share. I guess we, the “hardcore” gamers, are just cynical about this sort of business approach, though. Still, more gamers is always a good thing.
Anyway, Arthur, keep doing what you do, man. You’re the Ralph Cirella of the show. And I guess that makes Anthony, the Howard and Tyler, the Baba-booey, maybe?
I have listened to other podcasts talk about this stuff and the general consensus is that Move has little if anything to offer. I’m not one to bitch and moan about casual gamers and I certainly am not going to buy this business. I don’t think anyone is Sony-bashing at all.
Even if there were good games for the thing, my interest in it would come down to latency. For a quality, high-def, next-generation motion controller like what Microsoft and Sony are (maybe?) trying to do, I need to know that what I am doing is going to be read with little to no latency at all and with as much accuracy as possible. Sadly, I don’t think I am their target market. And that is why I don’t care about the hardware. I played Wii sports already on my Wii.
Mustard Penis!!
I enjoyed this week’s shorter cast. Thanks! But hey guys, you REALLY need to turn up the volume levels on your equipment! I mean SERIOUSLY!!! When you think you’ve got everything dialed in 100% perfect, i’d suggest you double it! When I gotta run my 125W x 7 Denon amp @ 75% of MAX just to hear you guys talk, something is way off.
You are going deaf or your amp is busted. Hopefully is the latter.
I totally agree, I hear the podcast on my iPhone, and I can barely hear a thing if I’m not in a quiet environment (i.e. not at work or in transit, which is where I like to listen to podcasts).
All other podcasts seem to be heard just fine, so any increase in volume would be appreciated.
Sorry to nitpick Anthony’s pronunciation, but Lara doesn’t rhyme with “Aura”.
“Best wishes go out to those at IGN/GameSpy/TeamXBOX who lost their jobs. Sorry to hear @aegies @chris_roper”

No idea what’s going on but I hope you guys are all ok.
Like wise….
This sounds fucking brutal…
I won’t send death threats if there is no podcast this week…
There seems to be a lot of hate in the comments.
Can’t we all just love?
On a side note… has anyone else noticed that the twitter feeds are gone from the main page?
They may have said something about it and I missed it…
