This week the normal crew joins Area5.tv’s Matt Chandronait and IGN’s Scott Bromley in an effort to blow your goddamn minds. Come away with us as we nonsensically discuss games like StarCraft 2, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Dead Rising 2, Okami DS, and many, many more. Also, nice choice on the Type-O. RIP Peter Steele.
the 40 days and 40 nights of wandering in the desert is over….rebel fm falls from the sky.
Maybe not that grandiose but good to see the podcast still lives after like 10 days (?)
Well, there are other podcasts to listen to in the mean time… Giant Bombcast, Game Scoop, PC Gamer Podcast, etc.
But it’ll be good to have the crew back this week.
So did we kill Game Club, or what?
I would like to know too. At this rate im gonna have to play chaos theory again to remember what happened.
I was scared IGN killed the podcast. Glad to see it lives.
O_O. It’s Bromley. And that’s not a bad thing. The past two GameSpy Debriefings with him have been pretty damn funny.
Scott Bromley…. I was looking forward to this weeks podcast.
Son of a bitch…
Same, although maybe it will be different on Rebel FM
I apologize to Scott Bromley. This episode was great. Don’t know why his funny on this but not on Debriefings. Maybe it’s the tension between him and Ryan Scott that bugs me.
Yeah I gotta agree. I almost switched to something different when I heard Bromley bellow in. Instead I listened and for the most part he wasn’t annoyingly obnoxious like he is on debriefings.
Ryan Scott getting painted into an awkward corner just makes the whole fucking thing awkward and boring for me.
NEW EPISODE! Alerted by iTunes. DLing.
NO PODCAST ESCAPES SCOT MOTHER FUCKING BROMLEY FOR BETTER OR WORSE
Missed you guys last week.
<3 <3 <3
Scott Bromley cracks me up. Thanks for the ‘cast.
loved it
I’m just really happy IGN has allowed Rebel FM to continue. I was worried it might go away once Anthony and Arthur began working directly for them. Thanks for doing the show!
As for the rampant hate of Scott Bromley- I don’t really get it at all. One tip though I feel like his personality doesn’t really shine. He could go muuuch bigger with his comedy. Think Dane Cook meets Kathy Griffin meets Carlos Mencia. I’m talking BIG! Trust me on this one.
Um. Carlos mencia and dane cook are two of the worst comedians on the planet. Bromley is more amusing than them by far.
I don’t think you understood…
You forgot the tags.
and
WTF? “” “”
Holy mother i just heard a Kids In the Hall reference
+45 on my Canadian nerd scale, Brain Candy ftw
Gotta love Kids In the Hall
Second best sketch comedy show ever made.
Rebel FM made me love Britney Spears.
Cover that surpasses the original on every conceivable level +1
I sang along at the end. How many of you sang too? Don’t lie, it’s not unmanly to sing along to songs that are over 10 years old.
Oh I sang along too. I’ve actually listened to that part of the show 3 times now. Fucking Hilarious!
Yeah, it’s great, most of the time, between every break theres this (way louder than the talking) crappy music.
OK some if the music i like. And then some choices makes me wan’t to kill the artist.
Tyler needs to rap next time.
Oh shit its that motherfucker scott bromley! Yes Yes Badman, I am looking forward to this!
This is probably the first podcast that Scott Bromley has appeared on that I enjoyed, the pyramid of sexual deviance was amazing. Also somebody needs to rip that last last part and put it on megaupload, never thought I would enjoy a Britney Spears song.
I don’t feel the need to comment very often but that was by far the best episode of Rebel FM. Ever. Scott Bromley needs to a regular guest on the show. Some guests can be overbearing at times. Scott fit the rhythm of the show perfectly.
For any of those people who have trouble finding new music I have a couple of suggestions. While last.fm and Pandora are great, I recommend that you listen to your local collage radio stations. While some play top 40 music you can find some that play some really awesome new obscure music. The station I work at (KFJC.org) has a wide variety of DJ’s who are interested a wide selection of genres. A warning to anyone who listens however some of the shows play music that is really hard to listen to.
Now I am just going to spew some music that I am listening to. **<–indicates my favorites $$<– Indicates that they release their music under creative commons for free
Lucine, Hilltop Hoods, Bearbot, Faunts, Flying Lotus,
*FOUR TET*, Infected Mushroom, Michna, Blue Scholars, Nujabes, $Pretty Lights&, Trash80, Tycho, RAC aka Remix Artist Collective, Starfucker, *Tom Waits*, Caribou, Citay, Von Iva, Running Blade, Gun Outfit, Schools of seven bells, Wussy,
Yeah I could go on but that is a ton of music for you assholes to listen to.
I'm out fuckers,
James Faulkner
I agree Scott was awesome but thats still no ” X button = chimp attack”…
Excellent episode!
I have to admit, the first time I heard Scott over on the Debriefings, my first impression of him was “loud, clueless interloper.” But I’ve been proven wrong, as this was one of the best episodes I can remember.
Scott Bromley should be the fourth chair. He was a great addition to this week. More of Scott in the future.
I’ll second that motion. Put it to a vote.
Hey, how do we contact Rebel FM? Which email address would be best?
letters@eat-sleep-game.com
Hi just wanted to say i’m glad all of you are back. It was a really good episode.
What are you intentions with gameclub is it dropped, because it was too much work?
take care.
I have a total mancrush on Bromley. Let this be the first of many appearances.
Agreed!
Ditto!
Whenever I hear Scott Bromley my penis starts to grow.
Oh. My. God.
At first I actually thought Anthony was gonna start playing Kettering by the Antlers for some reason but what happened was fucking gold.
FUCKING. GOLD.
amazing! I’ve met these guys too one time at a cafe on the day of their show. And then once again in the Apple store in Houston.
Just awesome.
Okay I know Tyler has talked about Sigur Ros and even though it wasn’t me I feel the need to brag about this.
A friend of mine saw Jonsi at a show last night and somehow they fucking got back into his private birthday party after the show.
http://bit.ly/bHY8h6
I still haven’t listened yet. I’m a bad boy.
Isn’t that “Ghost Trick” game the same as “Geist”? Didn’t that already not work out?
Isn’t that “Geist” game the same as “Messiah”? Didn’t that already not work out?
Uncle!
I loved Messiah.
No. It’s nothing like Geist. You couldn’t have picked a worse comparison if you tried.
Well worth the wait.
Awesome, more show.
What songs did you use in the podcast? Specifically, I’d like to hear more from the artist that did the first song (just before going into letters). I thank you in advance.
The band was Type O Negative. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_O_Negative
They have tons of great stuff.
Yeah, even though in SC2′s post-game screen you can only see their initial build order you can go watch the replay and see everything they do.
Talking about that girl who said she wanted to be abstinate always reminds me of one of Bill Maher’s standup specials on HBO:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e24fYOXzk1I
“Oh no I’m saving myself for Mr. Right. Fuck me in the ass! Go ahead! Pump me like the piston on an old iron train.”
loved Scott…keep him…
A note about cosplay, from what I’ve seen it’s not all about sex as you guys envision it. Sure there are some to who maybe that’s what it’s about but the people that are really into cosplay do it because they enjoy making the costume (which usually take months to complete) and showing it off in the summer at their favourite cons. The hardcore cosplayers you see that compete in cosplay contests or take a ton of time on making their costume as accurate or detailed as possible do it because they find it fun and a challenge to see how well they can emulate the character and not because of a fetish.
Also I have the feeling that most of you think that cosplay is some weird niche thing that a bunch of 15 to 30 year olds that are really into anime/japanese games/japan and such. However the word cosplay when first used by a Japanese reporter was refering to referring to attendees of the 1984 Los Angeles Science Fiction Worldcon who had dressed up as their favourite Sci-fi characters. So actually the first cosplayers were likely dressed as Doctor Who, Star Wars or Star Trek characters.
As for furries well I have a friend who’s into that and I straight up asked him so it’s about sex pretty much right? He replied quite candidly pretty much, so I agree on that point. Same goes for anime body pillows, which are just as sad as sex dolls. All of them are pretty fucked up but personally I have better things to do than talk about that and just basing it off my friend with the whole furry thing it’s really just something he keeps to himself, his partner and like minded people at a convention or w/e. In fact if it had not of come up somewhere in a conversation about how the whole furry thing is really strange I probably would never have known that the dude was into that.
Anyway I hope I added some insight into the art of cosplay and cleared up some of the ignorance surrounding it. Although I don’t expect the listener who wrote in and had the most false beliefs when it comes to most cosplayers. As I said there are people who fetishize it but the same can be said about pretty much anything. Just trying to help decrease the amount of petty bullshit antagonism between different fandoms that seems to rear it’s monstorous head especially on the internet.
Sorry about getting off track with the talk about how furries are fucked up.
Oh and I would just like to add I’m pretty neutral when it comes to Scott, I don’t hate him but I don’t really like him either. He seems to be quite a divisive personality though.
Also, Tyler plants die as well and this can be caused by harvesting them. There is evidence as well that many plants are aware of the environment and their predators and it’s seen in how plants will react to being attacked by sealing up wounds that are inflicted to prevent water and other nutrients from escaping by osmosis and some even will release toxins designed to incapacitate or kill an animal.
Also there is a reason that carnivores exist and that is to control the population of other animals from becoming to large since if left alone they will keep reproducing until they reach their carrying capacity at which point all the different lifeforms involved in that food chain suffer because a resource becomes over consumed resulting in many lifeforms starving to death due to a lack of food. This is why hunting practices aim to decrease the surplus in an overpopulated species in that region. Humans are pretty much the only lifeform so far who has been able to overcome the limitations of carrying capacity and increase it by our use of technology, be it simple tools or more efficient agricultural practices.
So unless you are just eating fruit or other parts of the plant that can be removed without killing or damaging it you are still causing strife to that plant and potential strife to herbivores that are in danger of overpopulation and the swift culling that comes via starvation due to exhausting the plants they have at their disposal. I mean it’s your choice but I thought I would just enlighten you to some of the potential suffering you are causing by being a vegetarian instead of an omnivore.
Suffering is an inescapable reality of existance you should know that given the small bits about Buddhism you seem to know seeing as that is the major theme of that religion.
http://fyredev.com/img/geekchart.gif
The hierarchy of geekdom is LAW. YOU WILL NOT ARGUE.
Your point is moot since when you look at that chart people who are primarly into videogames are not above people who are primarly into anime, which is one of the things I was addressing. Also cosplay is not touched upon at all since it spans pretty much all genres. (like I mentioned it was first used to describe attendees of a sci-fi convention)
Either way though I think you missed the main point of that comment, which is inter-fandom antagonism and hate is dumb, pointless and only succeeds in making you look like a complete douche bag so don’t do it.
The other half of the post addressing the flaws in Tyler’s logic as to why he’s a vegetarian. Don’t get me wrong I think that’s great he decided to choose that lifestyle but he seemed unaware of the potential suffering he could be causing by doing. So I thought I would help enlighten him assuming he reads that comment.
I actually agree with you I was just being an ass.
People are ethnocentric. We like think that our “culture” is better or right when it in fact we are just as relatively weird.
This isn’t a culture issue. Depictions of women in anime are almost always either pedophilic or sexual. Strong women are basically men with the body of a woman, rather than a woman who is strong as a woman.
Are you serious? This rant just seems like a weak “Philosophy 101″ attempt to justify your own meat-eating, rather than to “enlighten” vegetarians. Tyler and Anthony were talking about the suffering and abuse of animals due to the factory farming industry (as well as the negative impact on the environment). Sure, there is inevitable suffering in this world, but we can do our best to lessen it.
Most vegetarians are not simply against the killing of animals. The issue at hand the treatment and perception of animals as commodities. Please note that the meat industry has nothing to do with quelling animal overpopulation. “Swift culling” of cows and chickens? Gimme a break.
Tyler and Anothony were not interested in elaborating on their vegetarianism, so maybe you were confused. I hope I have “enlightened” you.
Yeah i can get behind the mistreatment of animals, health and dietary concerns with eating too much meat.
But the idea that somehow not choosing to buy a steak at supermarket will somehow stop a cow from dying, and this in turn will make the world a better place for everyone is a nice idea but that’s about it.
Do you vote? Do you recycle? Do you ever deposit cash into your checking account? What about workout? Every day we do small things that add up. A critical mass is made of individuals.
What about organic, free range animals?
I don’t know what the situation is in other countries but it is not to hard to get meat from animals who have lived free, on a farm for their whole life, here in New Zealand (if you are willing to pay a bit extra). Not only are you buying meat that came from a good place, it tastes much better also.
I agree. Free range animals taste better. I’m tired of the sanitized pork meat sold in the US. Give me pork from a pig that has been eating crap all its life. Really. Not being sarcastic here.
What of a “swift culling” of potatoes and carrots that are controlled and grown by humans. A life form is a life form no matter how you slice it. Sure some life forms are more advanced in some ways than others but unless you are just eating fruit or some other part of a plant which does not cause it harm or death you are causing that plant to suffer.
That doesn’t bother me because that’s the struggle of life, just because my species is more advanced I’m not going to feel some guilt for taking the life of another life form to survive. What I do disagree with is wasteful practices but that is a whole other topic.
I have no problem with what other peoples choices of food is but get off your high horse with how vegetarianism is more morally responsible because you have the false belief that the suffering and abuse of animals is more significant than the suffering and abuse of plants.
I realise that they were not interested in elaborating on their vegetarianism but the comments are here for a reason to comment on them. That is what I did, most of my post was directed at the misconceptions about cosplay but upon hearing Tyler’s explaination I was curious to see if he has ever considered the suffering of plants or because they are not animals he doesn’t think that they can suffer.
I agree that factory farming is not a good thing but that was not the specific point of my post it was that vegetarianism can cause just as much suffering as being an omnivore or a carnivore. Also that was not what they said Anthony said “It just wasn’t where I wanted to be” (~1:38:10) and Tyler said “I don’t want to contribute to death on this world.” (~1:38:50) Neither of these are addressing this point that you threw out there. Also Tyler’s is the only one that specifically equates the eating of meat with causing death and that somehow by eating plants this will not cause death. This is true for certain parts of a plant like fruit or leaves (provided not all of them are eaten or a disease is passed to the plant by infecting the leaves) but this is not true for most vegetables. Since they are the root of the plant and by harvesting them you are killing the plant.
Personally I’m an omnivore but I tend to eat more plants than I do meat just because you can do a lot more interesting and tasty dishes and personally when it comes to meat I’m more of a fan of fish and really just don’t like the texture of the mammals I’ve ate before.
Also if you want to have a serious discussion about this subject stop typing in such a condescending attitude and using quotation marks in that manner. However I’m guessing you don’t and would rather just try to spread your ideals without actually thinking and critically engaging other ideas.
“I have no problem with what other peoples choices of food is but get off your high horse with how vegetarianism is more morally responsible because you have the false belief that the suffering and abuse of animals is more significant than the suffering and abuse of plants.”
Troll confirmed.
Also: plants. do. not. have. brains.
The issue with eating meat is not death, it is the treatment of the animals.
plants don’t have nerves, therefore cannot feel pain, animals do have nerves and can feel pain. So the argument eating plants is the same as eating animals doesn’t work, sorry
I’m sorry to offend. I think the use of quotation marks is about the same as using timecodes to reference specific quotes in the ‘cast.
We shouldn’t have to even mention this point, but here goes: plants do not feel pain. The end. xoxo
To feel pain is both a conscious and unconscious experience i.e. the reflex action from when you touch something that is hot plus the thought “fuck! that was hot”.
Do animals have a conscious experience?
Is this comparable to the human conscious experience?
These questions are important to understand if you say that that chicken feels pain.
I mean just because an organism has sensory neurons, doesn’t mean it has emotions and consciously feels things.
It is quite possible that animals do have these things functions, which is something in itself. However, at the present theories for a neurological basis for emotion and embodiment are straddling the line between philosophy and cognitive neuroscience.
To qoute what I stated on Gamespy :
“SCOTT BROMLEY IS LIKE AN ORGASM AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT IN A PUSSY TUNNEL FULL OF DICKS. (He is a individual of humorous nature that is the fine wine to the regular voice recording technicians’s (podcasters in laymans terms) delicate french cheese and kaviar)
*slow claps*
Thanks for the great show. Last 4 minutes was gold.
And, in agreement with some of the other listeners (not that my opinion counts for much), Scott Bromley fit in rather well. Good friends, good chemistry.
I strongly suggest you guys watch the documentary “Helvetica”. It’s on Netflix streaming, too.
PS. You mentioned David Carson – he’s in the doc.
Bromley sucks. Uncensored verbal diarrhea does not sum to entertainment. Clearly, a self-promoting douche who revels in his own polarizing effect and works that angle to enhance his own megalomania.
Anthony, please stop shopping this idiot around. It lessens everyone’s perception of your general good-naturedness. You are lacking nothing and you don’t need to associate yourself with an abusive douche to increase your internet cache.
I was the one that asked him if he wanted to be on. So, direct your douche accusations at me, thanks. Also, malapropisms ftw.
You’re saying this because the more people hate on Bromley, the more he’ll be on, right? If so, I agree wholeheartedly!
Pitchfork? Matt you hang out with too many hipsters.
I was thinking the same thing. I can’t stand that site really.
The episode was the rebel FM renaissance! Everyone played off each other perfectly. All the old members and the addition of scott was perfect. It was a mix of interesting topics and letters discussed by interesting and funny people. Plus the addition of an impromptu music number was amazing! Keep up the good work and bring Scott back regularly. I really appreciate what you guys do.
Wow, easily the best Rebel FM episode thus far. And do whatever is necessary to entice Scott Bromley to be on the podcast as much as possible, a natural fit for the crew.
I love Bromley. I think he’s hilarious. Please bring him back ASAP.
Scott Bromley doesn’t sound exactly like Greg Miller. More like a Greg Miller/Sam Bishop hybrid.
GAME CLUB!!!!!!!!!
Everyone needs to listen until the end. Scott and Anthony singing “Hit Me Baby One More Time” was fantastic. I also liked the Kesha tease – that’s some top notch music. I hope to hear a full version next week.
Finally, I looked up a so-called “scientist” explaining magnets. Sorry, I don’t buy it. I’m sure there’s witchcraft at work there.
Hey Anthony, are you still playing Sacred 2? I remember last year you got pretty excited about it on one of the episodes but I don’t remember hearing much about that since. I ended up buying it since I’m a sucker for those kind of games. =P
You guys should probably change your “REBEL FM” name, I’ve never seen rebels that scared of embargoes. How about Suit FM, or Corporate Team Player FM
The Merchants Of Cool FM
Whajah Weekly.
Soar throats.
This episode was one of the best episodes of Rebel FM. Scott Bromley was great playing off the rest of you guys. And it is always nice when Matt is on. You guys are one of the few podcasts that can balance five guys on the show without any one guy dominating, or the show dragging.
Man… I was listening at work (headphones) and choked on my Pepsi after Scott’s comment about the gecko and unicorn.
this podcast went to so many hilariously dark places. every time you think things couldnt get any worse, one of you would one up the other. the taxidermy fetish fucking had me rolling on the floor. please bring bromley back for more podcasts. amazing.
The bulbasaur costumes had me in hysterics
The real mystery is whether Bromley sounds like Greg Miller or does Greg Miller sound like Bromley? Actually, Greg Miller sounds like Bromley on a case of Red Bull. But that’s a good thing, too. Anyway, more Bromley, please. If Bromley is AIDS, then color me HIV+. Hearing he’s a Stern fan makes it even better. ‘Get that poison out of your system. F*** me, Robin. F*** me, Raven.’
So Tyler said if we wanted his CD we should download it for free, does anyone know where I could download it?
The singing at the end is absolutely amazing…
Show did not disappoint, great job all. Song at end was freakin awesome, you guys should do that more often.
Who saw the video of the Dubai Fountain going crazy to the menu music from Sid Meier’s Civilization IV?
I’m pissed that it took me so long to get to this episode, it was great. i have no idea why the internet hates Scott Bromley, that guy is awesome, although I’m having a hard time getting the image of a gecko sucking off a unicorn out of my head.
QUESTION: Do you guys wash your cats in the bathtub. If yes, do they maul you arms?
Not directed to me, but I also have a cat the trick is to wrap your arms in old clothes and put something in the bottom of the tub so that she have something to claw on, the slippery feeling of the bare bottom doesn’t help.
Scott is awesome, he even did some on-topic on this podcast.
Shows even his serious opinions are interesting.
More Scott please…
Scott Bromley on Rebel FM is better than Scott Bromley on the Gamespy Debriefings.
I about creamed myself when they started singing… even if it was Britney
Sing more!!!
Oh yeah… f’n hilarious… and a bit endearing!
Really nice to touch to have the type 0 negative song play through after the lead singer died recently, at least i assume thats why you played it
gotta say scott is a total dick but brilliant on the air, make him a regular
be nice to get ryan o’donnell on more too, i enjoy his strong views but after the beat down he recieved on his (wrong) nintendo views i guess his not gonna be on anymore.
first time post, been listening since day one, please try and keep the podcast partially serious as anthony’s opinions are one of the few in the industry that arent plain stupid, he has that rare talent lacking from most american journalist’s(or at least the ones i listen too), common sense.
keep up the good work,
oh and tell scott his a clahn
Anthony and Scott’s performance – breathtaking.
Scott was awesome. Great episode.
Scott Bromley is the Patrick Joynt of Rebel FM. Awesome episode. Almost as good as the Robert Ashley episodes.
Difference is Patrick Joynt is the antagonist of opinion “Why don’t you like what i like sort of thing.”
Scott Bromley is the antagonist of too much seriousness.
Holy crap… Rebel FM was in f’n rare form! The past couple of episodes… you guys are really hit your stride. Not that you were trying to emulate it, but you guys had some funny tangents reminiscent of games for windows radio. Keep on rawdoggin’! Avoid prison though…
Perfect episode – awesome from start to finish. Keep up the great work!
Also this website needs fixin’.
The website is just a gateway to the podcast and for people to comment.

Who wrote this code?
I love you and all but this is just…
I work at least 50 hours a week, and the podcast takes between 6 and 10. I also have a significant other, and a life. So, how about you give me a fucking break?
Calm down Arthur.
That job must be getting to you.
You could put up a message asking for volunteers to fix some stuff. It’s just a few lines of code.
People do help for free sometimes.
Yeah, but it sure beats that piece of shit website Ryan Scott puts out. Ha ha ha! Nothin’ but love for Ryan Scott.
hahahaaaaah
[...] Rebel FM 59 – 04/21/10 [...]
I dont worry about about that haters Aegies. You guys are doing a great job.
And anthony I really love my five finger shoes as well. I just need to grow some calf muscles for my 210 body.
I do believe all of the ideas you’ve introduced to your post. They’re really convincing and can certainly work. Still, the posts are too brief for beginners. May you please prolong them a bit from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.
