Rebel FM Episode 62 Pre-show question: Second half of 2010?

Oh hey, it’s a middle segment. With the big releases of next week signaling the unofficial end of the first half of 2010′s release onslaught, we want to know what games you’re most looking forward to, and what game you think is going to end up disappointing everyone as well. You’ve got til 530 PDT tonight to get these in.

  1. Chris Coughlan says:

Personally, I’m starting to get a little excited for Playstation Move in general, mainly to see how third parties approach it, and whether we’ll see shovelware akin to the Wii, or will they take advantage of the power of the PS3 and try interesting things. I think the former is most likely :P

  2. Sam says:

Definitely most excited about Last Guardian, might not come out though. Gran Turismo 5 and Fable 3 definitely could be disappointing.

  3. Rundeer says:

The weekly Splinter Cell Conviction DLC.

  4. Brian G says:

I’m really excited for Bungie’s newest line-dancing game. BackBreaker looks interesting, but I also thought All-Pro 2K8 would be fun. All in all, it’s pretty much Backbreaker, Rock Band 3, and Halo Reach.

    • Brian G says:

I forgot about Fable 3. I’m also interested to see if there’s any good games for the Natal. Not getting my hopes up, though.

  5. XaiaX says:

    Rock Band 3.

I’ve put hundreds of hours into Rock Band 2. It’s ridiculous.

If Last Guardian comes out later this year, I’ll be buying a PS3.

I’m not sure if I quite give a shit about Natal or Move.

Also, Fable 3. I wandered into Fable 2 almost by accident, and I really liked that. Looks like Fable 3 will be pushing it even further, so I’m definitely wanting that.

Also, FALLOUT MOTHER EFFING NEW VEGAS.

    WOOOOOO

  6. I’m really excited for Halo: Reach and hopefully some good E3 announcements. I would like to know some more about Golden Sun DS, and desperately hope it will come out this year.

I’m fairly stoked for Crackdown 2 and Arc Rise Fantasia. Oh, and Super Meat Boy–that game looks pretty awesome.

  7. Hmm, I don’t really know what to expect from the latter half of the year but I can safely scrub off the Halo Reach multiplayer after the snoozefest that is the beta.

Definitely WoW Cataclysm, Starcraft 2 and Crackdown 2 but I’m trying not to go too far into the future before the onslaught of games in May/June.

It’s a crazy good year for games. Peace.

  8. Heartagram1028 says:

I think the things that excite me most this year are the games that have yet to be announced. Will we see any awesome new games we’ve never heard of or perhaps a sequel to something you’d never expect (Beyond Good and Evil 2?). E3 should be interesting this year. I loved Fable 2 so I am also extremely excited to see more news on Fable 3.

  9. metric152 says:

Looking forward to Metroid: Other M, but still scared that Tecmo will make Samus look like a DOA girl.

  10. Brent from Rhode Island says:

Watching motion control and 3d fail, and fail hard. While certain people create the lulz defending it.

Doubt I’ll play anything better than Mass effect 2 or deadly premonition though.

  11. Ben M-J says:

Well, in terms of what i’m looking forward to the most, bizarrely i’d have to say Ninja Theory’s enslaved. heavenly sword was by no means a perfect game, but it did a good job at telling a well thought out story, and i’m hoping enslaved can pair that with gameplay that is fun for more than 5 minutes at a time.
As for for what could end up being a crushing disappointment, i would have to tip my hat to L.A. Noire. The sheer ambition of the game could end up bringing down the roof over its head, and i’m wary of just how little has been shown of the game, though E3 could bear some gameplay footage. Bonus Picks, Alpha Protocol and Fallout: New Vegas. Obsidian has yet to deliver a game on time that isn’t at least bug ridden, let alone bug free. KOTOR2 was a mess due to the cutting short of development, so at least Alpha Protocol won’t be unfinished. Fallout i’m cautiously optimistic over, if only due to the fact that Obsidian is comprised of former Black Isle members.

    Thats all i got :P

  12. John says:

I’m excited about a lot of games but one i didn’t expect was dead space 2. i just started dead space and was blown away. i love the animation movie that is a prequel to the game that picks up right where the movie ends. also one i didn’t expect was the new iphone that is rumored to come out soon since i picked up the 3g I’ve been surprised how i just forgot about the psp and built up a good catalog of games on my phone that i play almost daily thanks in part to the great price and fast accessibility. love the show guys and don’t worry about last episodes hiccup it just proves y’all aren’t perfect just normal like us.

  13. Lucas Jones says:

I’m interested in Fable III coming out this Christmas (or so they say, anyway), as the revamping of the combat system and the removal of both the annoying skill tree and the HUD to me are the best thing they could do with a new Fable game. Also kinda interested in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. I mean, the teaser shown at the VGA’s didn’t make any sense whatsoever when taking the end of the first Force Unleashed into consideration. Not that I think it will come out this year, but still. One can always hope.

  14. Jon Cole says:

There are plenty of games to be hyped about in late 2010 that we already know about, but I find myself most interested in learning more about Deus Ex: Human Revolution. That game has a lot of history on its shoulders, but the brief trailers I’ve seen have been promising and I can only help but hope for the best.

  15. Craig says:

I’m looking forward to Fallout: New Vegas but is it just me who’s worried about Obsidian Entertainment making this game?

Alpha Protocol might change my opinion when I play it in June…

  16. Andy S says:

Crackdown 2, Crysis 2, Medal of Honor. Maybe Brink and maybe Ghost Recon. Civ 5. Fallout 3 New Vegas.

We’ll see what comes out of E3.

  17. JARVIE NZ says:

    4 words!……LITTLE BIG PLANET 2
    that trailer blew my mind!

  18. FaceLesbian says:

What game do I think will end up disappointing everyone? Probably the job interview game which I’ll no doubt be playing for months to come.

  19. Kyle Wright says:

I’d like to see what Rare is up to, and if they’ll be releasing a game anytime soon.

As for releases this year, StarCraft II and Halo Reach for sure, and of course Portal 2.

  20. Mister Trench says:

    Anticipating:
    A non-cartoon console Zelda (hopefully).
Some legitimate Left 4 Dead 1 DLC.

    Disappointments?:
    maybe the Reach campaign?

    • Mister Trench says:

Expected Disappointment Addendum: No word from Silicon Knights on anything Too Human. No new Rare Banjo Game (thanks for jogging that Kyle).

  21. SXEZSKOZ says:

Grandma’s house is gonna turn out to be a little spookier than anticipated.

  22. Jordan H. says:

I hope Fallout: New Vegas is as good as people are saying it is going to be. I really want to play Metroid Other M. I really want to see what Microsoft has planed for their Summer of Arcade I’m pretty sure Limbo is in there, but I don’t know any others. Force Unleashed is totally going to fail agian, but we can always look forward to another COD and Halo (sigh). I’m sure everyone will anounce some great titles to release during fall at E3.

    • jake mckenzie says:

I am hype on playing Starcraft 2 later in the year, possibly fallout new vegas. Medal of Honor sounds like a good game to rent to me from gamefly and possibly purchase if the multiplayer is good. Max Payne 3 if it comes out this year.

  23. Kevin S says:

I am most looking forward to Fallout: New Vegas. It’s going to be more Fallout 3. That’s exactly what I want. I feel I don’t know enough about a lot other games coming out in the latter half of the year to get excited about them. I’ll just have to wait and see what’s coming up at E3. I am afraid that Dead Rising 2 may disappoint. Keeping the old save system may keep it from reaching full potential yet again.

  24. David Doel says:

Honestly SOCOM 4. I’m a huge SOCOM fan, run a SOCOM blog (TheRealSOCOM.com), and I’m really interested to see how the game turns out when its back in the hands of Zipper. And with the Move support I might actually be able to get my girlfriend into a shooter.

  25. CountFenring says:

Gaming wise, I’m really pumped for Reach. I could care less about the online multiplayer, but me and my friends routinely have Halo 3 LAN parties, and Reach will only make those better. If It doesn’t have a good Zombies mode, it’ll put a damper on my excitement.

Natal could be pretty cool, I’m hopeful, but I haven’t seen anything that makes it a definite buy.

I can’t wait for PAX Prime, I’m buying my ticket today. I hope you guys could finally have the meetup at an under 18 place.

Also, my prom is in ten days. I hope that’s fun.

  26. Will D. says:

Blur – For being the grown-up version of Mario Kart I’ve always wanted

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier – Haven’t played a tactical shooter in a while, and even though not much has been revealed, I’m quite excited for what it could be.

Crackdown 2 – I can’t even start to describe the amount of fun I expect to have playing this game.

Brink – Looks really interesting. Hopefully it will be unique enough to stand out among the cluttered shooter market.

XBLA – Puzzle Quest 2 – Puzzle Quest + Diablo? Count me in.

  27. Will D. says:

    Whoops, forgot the disappointment.

Sadly, I think it’s going to be Dead Rising 2. There have been a lot of mixed opinions on the game as of late, which is not very reassuring. Also, I just haven’t seen much beyond the weapon workshop that looks really innovative.

  28. Mudron says:

Last Guardian, assuming it comes out this year.

Fallout: New Vegas and Fable III probably being released in October and mirroring how Fallout 3 and Fable 2 were released within a week of each other in October 2008, which was fun (though I’m not sure if I’m ready to pour another 100 hours into another Fallout game like I did with Fallout 3).

It’s hard to get worked up about Natal/Move, as make-or-break software for either platform probably wont be released until well into next year (shit, 5 years on and I’m still waiting for a piece of software that justifies the Wii’s motion-controller interface).

That said, I’m curios to see if Wii Zelda is worth getting worked up about (it would pretty much HAVE to use Wii Motion Plus, as I can’t think of a game since last summer’s Wii Sports Resort that actually made use it). Zelda’s “get the boomerang in the first dungeon/bombs in the second dungeon” formula has been sweaty as balls for years, this is Miyamoto & Co’s real chance to prove that Nintendo has what it takes to shake things up, at least in regards to games directed at Nintendo’s ‘hardcore’ audience.

  29. kitsune says:

What I’m looking forward to? Fallout: New Vegas. Fallout 3 was an epic game, I really can’t wait to get my hands on some more Fallout.

I’m also looking forward to Red Dead Redemption, but that one is out in just a week or two, so that would be the first half of 2010.

I know for a fact that Dead Rising 2 will be a disappointment for a lot of people. People have fond memories of the first one, but man was it a flawed game. And I’m guessing the second one will be about the same. Another game that have potential to fail is Gran Turismo 5, if it will be out this year. We’ve been waiting for it for so long, and I’m afraid it really wont be any better than the competition…

Keep up the great job! Love the show!

  30. kms_md says:

Fallout: New Vegas and Halo: Reach.

  31. TAYREL713 says:

Metroid:Other M has me really pumped. I also wonder about project Natal. I feel as if via the Wii I already have a decent understanding of Move. The new Medal of Honor is also on my radar. I also wonder what the Summer of Arcade will have in store for us. Hmm, anything else… 3DS and hopefully a new console Zelda. That about does it it I think.

  32. IUMogg says:

A few games I’m looking forward to:

Golden Sun DS. The Golden Sun GBA games were fantastic and I hope they can recapture that magic for the DS version.

Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2. I think the first game was underrated. It had flaws, most of which seemed to come from it being rushed, but I enjoyed it and thought it had a solid foundation. I hope with most of the groundwork laid, the new one will have the polish the first one deserved.

Singularity. I’m more curious about this game. It could be a one trick pony, but has the potential to be fresh.

Metroid: Other M. Even if it doesn’t come together, it should be an interesting experiment.

I am not looking forward to the Natal coverage. I fear the press will be all over what could essentially be the equivalent of the NES power pad. I’m sure it will be cool tech, but I can’t imagine how it could improve playing games.

  33. potatoes says:

I’m a total nerdshit, so Cataclysm [the new WoW expansion] is what I’m most anticipating. It’s crazy how close to a sequel this expansion is going to be. The entire leveling experience is radically different.

Otherwise it’s, surprise, mostly shooters that are looking strongest. Medal of Honor, Crysis 2, Brink, Ghost Recon and maybe even another Call of Duty.

Plus Crackdown 2 and Dead Rising 2, my guilty pleasure games. It’s the jankier elements of those games that make them so charming. You guys are so off-base on the Dead Rising save system. Replaying the same three Groundhog Days while leveling Frank up each time? That’s half the appeal to me. I wouldn’t want them to try to stretch the story in to a 20 hour experience.

  34. Bryce3333 says:

Red Dead, UFC 2010, Reach (Thanks for defending halo arthur) and fallout new Vegas!

  35. Art S. says:

I’ll be looking forward to you guys actually finishing Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for Game Club.

  36. Eli says:

I know that everyone dismisses the Call of Duty franchise these days (especially those developed by treyarch), but from what little I have heard and seen Black ops could be awesome and be an opportunity for treyarch to shine. On the other hand, this potential also sets it up to be a major disappointment if it is just more of the same. With the direction infinity ward is going, we may have to rely on treyarch for our COD needs in the future.

  37. Coheno says:

The Last Guardian, GT5 and as much as I hate saying this, the new CoD: Black Ops sounds promising so far! Also: The new Insomniac titel that must be coming out November and Clash of Heroes HD on PSN!

  38. Monica says:

    NATAL

.. no just a psych. Actually I’m looking forward to halo reach a lot. I wasn’t really crazy about fable II but I’d like III to change my opinion.

  39. Conall says:

Im looking foward to the nxt treyarch nazi zombie type mode
Civ 5 and listening to anthony’s new stories of tiryany
I think the new medal of honour game will fail its just to much of a modern warfare copy and people are getting burnt out.The 1 good Natal game out of the 100 or so that will be realeased.
But most of all ,3d porn

  40. Ashley D says:

Red dead looking really good, also interested to see whats coming to mac now that steam is compat with it

  41. torajix says:

Gears of war 3, as I feel the story is pretty interesting.
Fallout new vegas looks good as well.
I heard there’s rumbling about a syndicate remake.
Also despite not being happy of it becoming a FPS, I’d like to see what 2K can do with the XCOM franchise.
I’d like to see what nintendo has in store for the 3ds.
I’d also like to see what’s in store for the FF13 series, as VS is still in development. I also want to know what Irrational games is working on.

  42. Richard says:

Red Dead Redemption and Fallout New Vegas should both be winners. OOHH AND HALO REACH CAMPAIGN!!

Otherwise, gonna take a look into the homebrew channel and see what ive missed from the wii backlog!

  43. kentdoggydog says:

Max Payne 3 is a game that will cause excitement to me in the forthcoming time of the far side of 2010. That was a horrible sentence, but I was trying to avoid saying “I’m looking forward to…” I am a fan of the Max Payne genre and this next one looks Kraaaaa-zeeeee! what with the baldness and the jungley-stuff. Plus, it’s all a mystery right now, and I like mysteries. As it comes closer to release, I’ll probably get less excited as the details are revealed, but right now, the Max Payne 3 in my imagination kicks ass!

  44. mujun says:

I’m looking forward to Crackdown 2, Dead Space 2, Medal of Honor, Fable 3, Fallout: New Vegas, Deathspank, Mafia 2, etc.

I think Dead Rising 2 and Crysis 2 might turn out to be disappointing.

  45. Wince says:

The Last Guardian. I just got my PS3, and this is the game I’m most looking forward to.

I really hope the next Zelda game changes things up in a big way. If they follow the same Zelda formula, this may be the first game in the series that really loses me. I want to be optimistic about it, but I’ve lost faith in Nintendo.

  46. Paul Woelke says:

For one, I’ve got zero interest in Natal or Move. I think I got burned by getting my Wii on launch day. With that being said, I’m obviously looking forward to all the Nintendo releases and hoping the dried-up husk of what was once known as Team Ninja won’t fuck up Other M.

    Other big titles include:

-Red Dead Redemption. Looks like Rockstar refined their open-world formula again with that one.

-Starcraft 2. This one I’m worried about. It looks to samey and even though I’ll play this one mostly for the story I fear I might get bored with playing a slightly updated 10 year old game. Of course I haven’t played the beta, so I can’t really comment on the mechanics too much.

-Dead Rising 2. L4D and RE 5 are clear proof that killing zombies is even more fun with a friend, this one’s a total no-brainer, just for fucking around in co-op.

Lastly, I have no idea how the 3DS will turn out and I really hope Fez gets a release date soon.

    • Paul Woelke says:

Holy shit, how could I forget Fallout New Vegas AND Alpha Protocol?! I’m a huge fan of Black Isle/Obsidian, I just know I’ll enjoy both of these, no matter how buggy and unfinished they might turn out to be.

  47. PCGamer says:

    Most anticipated:
    StarCraft II
    Portal 2
    Crysis 2
    Civ V
    Fallout: New Vegas
    Brink
    Natural Selection 2

Games that will disappoint people who played previous incarnations of said games:
    Deus Ex 3
    Max Payne 3

  48. While Halo: Reach will be awesome, and CoD: Black Ops will keep me interested, my Star Wars boner was immediately set to “consult a doctor” mode when I read the GamePro cover story of The Force Unleashed II. I have faith that it will take all the fun components of the first game and right the wrongs that made it aggravating. Speaking of having faith in improved sequels, add Crackdown 2 and Dead Rising 2 to that list.

And no. I am not excited for StarCraft 2. I do not give a horse tit for that game.

  49. CodyH says:

Honesty the more I see it the more I get excited for Reach. I really enjoyed the single player side of ODST and hope that continues with this one and the new stuff in multi (for Halo that is) looks to be fun.
Other games I’m looking forward too are.
Naughty Bear (if it looks as fun and twisted as the trailers show that could be a great time killer)
Transformers: War for Cybertron (yeah I got super pumped after last weeks episode)
Lego Harry Potter (what could be better then the combo of those two.)
    Crackdown 2 (must get orbs)
Deathspank (please come out this year)
Fallout: New Vegas (more Fallout please)

As for games that I think will disappoint.
The two biggest right now are Portal 2, Fable 3 and Epic Mickey. Now I loved both Portal and Fable 2 but something in the back of my mind has me cowering in the corner. Portal being the bigger of the patch because I just feel like they’ll have a hard time to capture the charm of the first one. Yeah underestimating Valve is a dumb thing but I just have a small fear.

Fable 3 just because it’s Fable 3. They hyped up Fable 2 big time and I was surprised by how much of the hype was delivered. But just like everything that Peter is involved in I tread carefully around it.

And lastly Epic Mickey, though at this time it seems like the hype train is at a stop but I remember people being really high up on it when it was announced but it just seems to ambitious.

    • CodyH says:

      Damn I screwed up here.

I added Epic Mickey near the end of the post but didn’t edit the rest of the first bit about the games that will disappoint.

  50. Incrediblestan says:

Gran Turismo 5 will most defintely be the biggest disappointment. It may look pretty but really do people think it will be fun?

  51. Matt Bosten says:

    I’m really hyped for a few games;

Red Dead Redemption has got me excited, looking like GTA: Wild West.

Also looking forward to sequels to two of my favourite games in the form or Fable III and Fallout: New Vegas.

  52. Samit Sarkar says:

Hm, let’s see (these are in no particular order)…

    The Last Guardian
    Medal of Honor
    Halo: Reach
    Madden NFL 11
    Rock Band 3
    Backbreaker
    Brink
    Fallout: New Vegas
    LittleBigPlanet 2
    Crysis 2
    Max Payne 3
    L.A. Noire
    Gran Turismo 5

I feel like Call of Duty: Black Ops might disappoint, but then, it might be great. Who knows?

    • Anand says:

I’m looking forward to all of them except Rock band and Madden. I don’t like football and I’ve wasted too much time on musicgames in the past. I’m gonna spend that time learning to play a real guitar this year.

  53. Jose Ortiz says:

    I’m looking forward to:
    Red Dead Redemption
    Fallout New Vegas
    Little Big Planet 2

Red Dead Redemption might disappoint much in the same way GTA4 did to a lot of people. Might be a great game that is just not so fun to play, if that makes sense. Still, I’m hoping it is good.

  54. JoeKief says:

I’m looking forward to playing a bunch of games from the first half of the year for $30 cheaper.

  55. Civ 5 for sure. Also Stardock’s next turn base game, Elemental. It will be a great year for pc turn based if those games turn out great.

  56. Twist says:

My most anticipated for the fall are:
    Fallout: New Vegas,
    Fable 3,
and whatever the teams at Chair and Behemoth are up to.

Biggest disappointment will probably be Halo: Reach. Every Halo since the second one has managed to disappoint me in many ways.

  57. Porkchop McGee says:

I think anything Move or Natal-related will disappoint. Unless it’s “Tyler Barber’s Boom-Boom Time” Also, any poorly implemented, fledgling attempts at 3D gaming.

    As for things to anticipate:
Kane and Lynch 2 (if it fixes the first one’s flaws, we’re good)
    The Last Guardian
Castle Crashers (for the PS3 if it makes it this year)

  58. Andy says:

Game(s) I’m most looking forward to:
    Crysis 2
When Crysis first came out everyone was in awe of the graphics powering this little beauty. I remember looking for a new computer at the time and basically Crysis benchmarking it. If it couldnt play Crysis well, it wasnt worth my time. Money problems and life got in the way, so when I finally was able to get a new computer (laptop) I went with what I was denied earlier. This time though, the reason I wanted Crysis was for the Mechwarrior Living Legends Mod. Needless to say it’s ridiculously awesome that the guys at Crytek put this game out with mods in mind. So Crysis 2 is on my list, for aesthetics, studio credibility, and past accomplishments. As well as a new balanced game.

2nd game looking forward to Fallout New Vegas. Hopefully with a better ending this time. Seriously, fuck the original end of Fallout 3. I loved the game, and am replaying it now, but come on…

Game that is gonna disappoint the most people (myself and gf Included):
    Fable III

I dont know why that British bastard inspires me every time, but I wanted to love Fable II. I tried to love Fable II.
    It just. didn’t. happen.
Molyneux knows how to sell, but does he know how to make a good game anymore..? Anyways, will I buy Fable II..? Yes. Will I probably regret it..? Yes. Will it matter..? No.

  59. thevamp25 says:

    crackdown 2…nuff said

  60. Jack says:

Really looking foward to Halo Reach and LBP2.

I honestly think black ops is going to dissapoint. I think the call of duty franchise has had it’s time in the spotlight, and its the time for the franchise to die off, maybe take a break for a few years, like medal of honor, or just throw the series away completely. I have a feeling that won’t happen as long as Kotick is in charge.

  61. J_Loother says:

I’m really looking forward to The Last Guardian, despite how it will crush me. Seriously, we all know how it’s going to end, SADLY!

Civ 5 is another one that I’m excited about, I sank days of my life into 4, and this sounds like it will be no different.

I’m not really looking forward to Starcraft II…as it will rob me of my humanity and will reduce me into a shell of a man from the amount of hours that I will be sinking into it.

  62. David Welsh says:

I’ll be looking forward to playing all the games from the first half of the year.

After that, I am really pumped for Alpha Protocol. I can’t wait to see what Obsidian Portal will do with their own IP, especially when it is such an unconventional RPG setting.

Finally, Fable 3 will be awesome. My wife recently became a fan of 2, which was a surprise. It’s become a great date game, and it looks like 3 will take that idea further.

  63. Eddie says:

Well With Steam released on Mac today now I shall be playing more games on it now. Even thought its only Portal, Braid, World of Goo etc. is out I will still end up playing more steam games as other games are going to be release. (Tf2 L4d2 CS-Source) (And yes I know the games were released longg time ago…Still. Also I know that some of them can be played on mac already.) Oh and Fallout Vegas and Crackdown….

  64. Despite all the hype, 2010 has stayed very well within the lines of contemporary gaming without actually coming out and shocking us all with something truly great. Everyone preaches Mass Effect 2 like it’s the masterpiece that will forever remembered but in reality it’s a technically proficient game wrapped in a undeveloped generic plot with nothing thematically deep that is explored properly. Red Dead seems to be trying to deliver that sort of subversive social commentary that Rockstar does so very well in comparison to so much else but still nothing is really fresh about it. Last Guardian isn’t coming out this year for sure so I will wait to play Fable 3 because Fable 2 had surprising poignancy and gameplay depth even though it shot for the stars while riding the mayflower. And I swear to god if someone fucking says Mario or fucking Metroid I swear I will curb stomp them to death. Look at Little Big Planet 2, how can games like Super Mario Bros wii exist? They only do because fuck wits had great memories of them. If they grew up playing the video game equivalent of fucking Fritz Lang then they would be demanding thought provoking shit and not kids fucking jump around and waste our lives games. So- yeah that’s all I got to say.

  65. Chris Taylor says:

Golden Sun DS definitely takes the award for game I know nothing about but am excited for. It’s an unexpected sequel to one of my favorite GBA series that was lucky to get a sequel in the first place. Metroid:Other M still has me cautiously optimistic. The control scheme seems new and original and the game itself seems to be a interesting change. I love Metroid Prime, but I do feel it’s time to break from the formula.

As for games that might disappoint, Portal 2 has me very worried. Their taking a game that was so well paced and benefitted from how short it was and expanding it to a full experience. I feel even Valve might be able to screw this one up. I’m more sure that GT5 will disappoint, though. Polyphony Digital seems to have spent so much time polishing it that it’s lost sight of the competition. Forza really changed the way racing games our played and I doubt GT5 will have all the improvements Turn10 has implementing during the time that game’s been in development.

  66. Fozzy says:

I’m really looking forward to fallout new Vegas, metal gear solid peace walker looks like a promising psp title and I’m hoping to learn more about metal gear rising by this e3 or TGS. As fun as the reach beta is it’s nothing new and I’m really not that excited for it…

  67. EDfromRED says:

Fallout: New Vegas. I still visit the wonderful wasteland of Fallout 3 once in a while, and a new Fallout by the originators of the series, with consumer feedback implamented in new features such as “hardcore” mode, has me super excited.
Crysis 2. The developers seem to be making bold statements concerning the Story & Technical excellence of this game. I hope its not empty boasting. I never played Crysis 1, but reviews I read seem to say they can deliver the goods.
Call of Duty: Black Ops. Has Activision totally screwed the CoD pooch? I expect good things from this game, but can it in anyway approach the level of quality the Modern Warfare titles have attained?

  68. Yonkey Dong says:

I’m a “one game” man these days so Fallout: New Vegas is the only title that has me going from 6 to midnight.

  69. kentdoggydog says:

I forgot to mention Mafia 2. I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for the next generation of getting pulled over for speeding that the first one introduced years ago. I want you to know that I started out with only two “waitings” in that previous sentence, but went back and added a third in order to better express my anticipation. Also, there has been a distinct lack of Tommy Guns this generation, which I think is quite a travesty. How can you have a crescendo moment without a Tommy Gun involved?!

  70. Onceortwice says:

    STAR~CRAFT~TWO~

  71. Xboxster says:

Halo Reach, Rock Band 3, and Last Guardian are among others I’m excited for, but the latter will probably be delayed.

In terms of disappointments, the 360′s redesign and PSP games for the rest of the year are at the top of my list. If the analysis of the supposed motherboard is any indication, it won’t have the features I’m looking forward to, such as wireless or a much smaller profile.

Natal and Move are in between. On the one hand, motion controls on the Wii are mostly meh (and more peripherals clogging up my dorm room). On the other hand, E3 holds a lot of promise for both products.

I will say though that the first half of this year certainly ends well with Alan Wake and Red Dead Redemption (both of which I plan to pick up next week).

  72. listerfeend says:

How about the Engineer Update for TF2? Anyone else play this? I remember Tyler said he tried it out on his PC but never heard any updates…

    • PCGamer says:

I’ve been waiting for this update for a long, long time. I just wish the RebelFM crew were more into TF2.

  73. CockneyJoe says:

    Excited for:
LittleBigPlanet 2 – me and three friends played through the first game in one go. We all established distinctive and ridiculous personalities for our sackpeople (such as: Lion Boy, Zombie Bride, Basketball Ninja and Blaxploitation Man.) , and we had a constantly hilarious, sometimes frustrating (usually at the hands of each other) but overall fantastic experience with the game, and I find it hard to believe that the sequel won’t provide similar thrills.

Transformers: War For Cyberton – I have faith that this can be the Arkham Asylum of 2010, the return to glory for a beloved franchise that’s suffered recently due to movie adaptions.

    Expecting to be disappointed by:
Sonic 4 – leaked videos show some really strange physics, and the way sonic runs irks me, but at least it’s episodic so you only have to make the mistake for one part of the game if it does suck.

If it comes out this year (which I doubt it will): Arkham Asylum 2: I just can’t imagine that they’ll be able to create an experience that captures the same and hopefully new experiences that the last one did, I will be extremely sceptical if this game gets a 2010 release date. The only reason I even consider this is the fact it got announced so early.

  74. JP says:

Brink, Fallout: New Vegas, and Portal 2…disappointing games will be Dead Rising 2 and Max Payne 3

  75. Sammo says:

Personally, Little Big Planet 2 may be the game I am most excited for. Other than that, I think I am getting Halo Reach. Other than those two, I am not sure. I wasn’t pleased with MAG so I am holding off getting too excited for the new SOCOM. If Fist of the North Star makes it this year, I am very excited for that.

Scott Pilgrim probably won’t make it this year, but if it does it might be cool. Fallout Vegas and Spider-man are cool, but…I seriously doubt Spider-man will end up being a good game. Crackdown 2 is considered 2nd half so that too!

  76. Peter says:

Jes, I has quest about hat of Mario and why he no share with Donkey’s Kong thank you.

  77. Sam Eames says:

It’s a pretty boring answer, but Halo Reach is probably my most anticipated game, the soulless husk of a man that I am. I’m also really excited to see what The Last Guardian will end up being gameplay wise. I really love that I have no idea what that game is going to be. I think that Crackdown 2 may disappoint me, and I’m not really sure why. Just a feeling. Beyond that, I think that Medal of Honor is going to be a major disappointment, at least on the single player front. I’m excited to see what DICE does with a more arena based multi-player, if that is what they do. Fat Penis, Dicksucking, and Leprechauns.

  78. Josh S says:

WAY TO MANY GAMES THIS YEAR! I don’t even know where to start.
Anything from Blizzard – I won’t deny it, I’m a Blizzard whore (Went to Blizzcon 08 and 09). I’m a crackwhore for WoW, I’ve been playing since vanilla and just can’t seem to quit. What’s got me super pumped about the expansion is the emphasis on story. Blizzard “attempted” this with Wrath but failed, it was still full of cut and paste “Kill X,Y,Z” quest design (which I completed on four different characters…). And also Starcraft 2 looks great from what I’ve seen/played.
Alan Wake – I know this one comes out next week but god damnit! I’ve been waiting five years for this game.
Red Dead Redemption – I was never able to complete GTA4 (mostly because Niko was a dick with arms), but considering this one takes place in the Wild West, everyone was a dick back then so meh…it makes sense, right?
Fallout: New Vegas – Loved Fallout 3, even if I didnt’ commit 100+ hours to it like everyone else.
Transformers: War for Cybertron – Arthur sold me on this during last weeks episode!
Halo Reach – Beta was fun, hopefully the campaign is too.
Dead Space 2 – I know this one is expected next year but OMG! (All aboard the train to Boner Town!) I WANT THIS GAME!

I think Fable 3 will end up being a disappointment. Because Molyneux has a record of over-hyping his own games. Also, Playstation Move, need I say more?

  79. Brian M says:

Civ 5 and Dead Rising 2. The simple fact that I know my friends are getting these games makes me super excited for both. Playing online games with good friends can make me excited for anything especially when I know it’ll be a good game even though I never tried the series before (Civ 5). Also Dead Rising 1 was awesome and a super fun game to me, having an all new setting, weapons and things to do AND cooperative gameplay just makes it so much better.

  80. indieinsd says:

LittleBigPlanet 2. I’m excited for the game, but I’m more excited for what the community builds and the new features they can implement. The LBP hardcore community is incredible and I really can’t wait to see what they make.

GT5 if it ever comes out, I’m a NASCAR fan and GT fan so them getting the license was awesome for me. It bothers me that it’s taking so long but it didn’t seem to hurt Alan Wake with the long dev cycle so lets hope GT5′s doesn’t somehow unfairly get judged by it’s dev cycle.

Last Guardian – I might be more excited if they announce a ICO/Shadow Blu-ray combo, but this game looks awesome.

Medal of Honor – I’m done with COD, and I’ve given up my MAG habit so I’m pretty sure I’ll be ready for another shooter by the time MoH comes out. But I’ve heard rumors that Killzone 3 might be announced at E3 and be slated for a February release (like MAG was last year) so my time with MoH might be short lived.

Civ 5 and Portal 2. My type of PC games, I dont play Blizzard games so I could care less about Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3.

  81. Ross J. says:

looking forward to Gran Turismo 5 and being able to afford God of war 3 and uncharted 2

  82. koofle says:

    Looking forward to:
    -Civ 5
    -super meat boy

    Slightly fearful of:
    -GT5

  83. Formulaonefrank says:

I feel that Halo: Reach is going to disappoint. It will probably get decent reviews (especially from big sites) but most people will just find that Halo is no longer fun to play. Also, I feel alpha protocol will also disappoint. Either the RPG element just isnt fleshed out enough or the shooting will just feel awkward.

  84. psdeuce says:

Even though I’m sure it won’t come out this year… how about Bulletstorm? It looks like it’s going to make full use of its arsenal of weapons and not allow the player to only use the best weapon for headshots. In other words… varied strategy for dispatching your enemies.

Most dissapointing… Just Cause 2. I think I hyped this game up in my head too much, but I’m getting pretty bored with it. I did all the things you’re “supposed” to do (base-jump from the highest point, hijack a plane and stunt jump onto another plane, etc…). It’s definitely too repetitive.

Great podcast guys! You make the yardwork go by quicker!

  85. Patrick says:

Graduating university, getting a decent paying job I’m interested in, moving out and doing my girlfriend in any room at any time of the day, and the Canadiens winning the cup. Videogames? Galaxy 2 and Portal 2. Maybe that rumored sex tape of Anthony and his computer being released finally as well.

  86. Seth says:

Halo Reach is going to get great scores, sell a billion copies, and then six months after release we’ll have to listen to holier-than-thou games journalists talk about how much they never really liked it. SET IN STONE!

  87. chrismcgowan says:

halo reach is a lock for greatness, considering how beloved the beta version is already. if the last guardian manages to come out before the end of the year as well, then i’ll be in hog heaven.
i hate to think that any cool-looking games are going to disappoint. but anyone eagerly anticipating sonic the hedgehog 4′s “return to form” is going to have to come face to face with the fact that sonic’s games have *never* been very good.

  88. Jonah Falcon says:

Not a question – just wanted to let you guys know that MMO Champion has temporarily pulled all the Cataclysm spoiler material:

  89. rob says:

    Game club please.

  90. Games that I’m looking forward to: Darkstar One: Broken Alliance. We’ve not really had a great space opera game since Elite. Whilst forever clamouring for a decent sequel to that game (which is probably never going to happen), I’m hoping that Darkstar is going to fulfil those space battle needs. Fully customisable ships, massive universe to explore, an open-ended storyline; hopefully it won’t join the second part of your question.

Alpha Protocol: The Espionage RPG. I’ve been pretty disappointed with RPGs of late; FFXIII just didn’t cut it with far too much hand-holding. Resonance of Fate went waaaaay too far the other way, making learning the combat system a chore and Nier looks like an Xbox1 game. Alpha Protocol appears to be trying to do something a little different, and I like the idea of basing the character classes around espionage – I did after all enjoy playing the devious sneaky route in Oblivion.

Games that are likely to disappoint: Battle vs. Chess. What better way to ruin the classic game of Chess, than to try and wrap an action element around it – yes let’s abandon the very concept that makes the game strategic, if you can’t learn the move book, just wang out your choad and whop the queen about the face with it. I’m sure it’ll actually be great.

Naval Assult: The Killing Tide. Forget it, you are not going to be as cool as Sean Connery in a Russian sub, you’re not even going to be Das Boot. There’s going to be little fun sat in a tiny metal can using sonar to find other ships whilst dodging depth charges. We can only hope this game does a Kursk.

  91. Anand says:

Samit Sarkar has a good list.

  92. Anand says:

Is red dead redemption the SECOND half of this year? I see a lot of people are looking forward to that one.

  93. magic castle says:

    Skate 3, and it’s out.

The rest of gaming can suck my wet, bloated dick.

  94. The Doctor says:

Two games that I am guaranteed to get are Crackdown 2 and Halo Reach. The three other games that I am really looking forward to hear more about, are:
Brink, the different classes that they use kind of reminds me of TF2. I also like the art style and the way that the characters look.

Medal of Honor, I hope that they put some effort into telling a story. It was one of my biggest turnoffs for Modern Warfare 2.

Finally, Fable 3. Fable 2 had some smooth game mechanics that made the game enjoyable for me and I can’t wait to see how they will expand upon that.

  95. Shuborno says:

    Starcraft II

This year I’ve inadvertently transitioned into a gamer who only plays a couple games, but plays them to death. I continue to play Mass Effect 2, Borderlands, Fallout 3, and TF2. I’ve considered new games, but I know I’ll have just as much fun (and save money) playing the old ones and downloading the DLC.

Starcraft II feels like it will be another great bang-for-your-buck type of game.

  96. Iceveiled says:

    Red Dead Redemption motherfuckers!!!

Further down the pipeline I’m looking forward to Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, WoW Cataclysm, Starcraft II, Gran Turismo 5 (assuming a miracle happens and it actually comes out this year), and Fat Penis II: The Rising.

As a gamer who never gets tired of shooters, no matter what, I’m also looking forward to the new Medal of Honor and Call of Duty titles though I have a feeling they will both be disappointing, especially Medal of Honor, a series that hasn’t had a solid release for far too long.

  97. Iceveiled says:

Also, Naughty Bear. I knew I was forgetting one.

  98. Saint Gekko says:

Gonna follow the crowd and say Fallout: New Vegas. Any game that lets me spend more time in the Fallout world is tits in my book. Fable 3 could be good as well, if taken at face value. Can’t forget WoW:Cataclysm either.

As for disapointments, I’ll say Gran Turismo 5. That game has been in developement for so long I don’t think it can ever live up to the hype built around it. We’ll find out that all Yamauchi-san has been doing for the last five years is masterbating to photos of cars.

  99. Iceveiled says:

Dude it’s so true. The development time for GT5 is bordering on absurd. If it’s just more of the same but with prettier graphics I’m gonna be pissed. At this point the game HAS to be a disappointment..it’s unavoidable isn’t it?

For fucks sake wrap it up and ship it. Add the rest in DLC…just give me some gran turismo already.

  100. Jesse says:

I’m most looking forward to Mafia 2 and Deus Ex 3, but I won’t be surprised if they turn out to be the most disappointing. I loved the original Mafia, in fact I’m about to play through it again. The first Deus Ex is easily one of my favorite games, Invisible War was pretty good, but not nearly as enthralling as it predecessor; if history has taught me anything, it not to expect much from a sequel.

Singularity looks like it could be interesting, but I afraid it will end up like TimeShift, decent but nothing memorable.

HAWX2 on the other hand, that’s going to be some seriously hot shit.
