  1. SJS says:

Sweet. When I heard Robert was moving I was praying for one last special guest appearance on Rebel FM.

  2. CodyH says:

    OMG

    Robert, Bromley and Altano?

This podcast never had a chance. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

  3. Thomas P says:

Music drowned out the podcast at around 54 minutes. What’s up with that?

  4. Andreas says:

Rebel FM continues to make me burst out in laughter at work – the stares I get are well worth it though…

  5. Jose says:

I didn’t like Run Lola Run at all if we’re hating on movies.

  6. Eric says:

Oh shit Ashley and Bromley on the same podcast this is going to be some end of the universe type shit. May the fat penis be with us all.

    • Anand says:

Ok Ok, I will blow your mind. Here’s the idea: A fat penis in the middle, connected to a mac in the background. With Robert Ashley and Scott Bromley talking into the fat penis as if it were a mic. Send to Threadless.

      • Eric says:

Wow I am blown away my socks literally are blown away. That is why your working for threadless and not at those bastards at Snorg tees.

  7. Jordan H. says:

I may be the most uneducated person when it comes to the internet, but what do I need to download for the quicktime thing. It keeps on showing a pop up that says that I need to download something for quicktime to view whatever the thing is.

    • Kahitri says:

Only if you want to listen to it on the website, if not get it on Itunes under podcasts -> gaming and/or search it…. Don’t know about Zune wait for someone to add to my limited answer if its Zune…
      Hope it helps

  8. Jose says:

    Damn. Good show guys. Thanks.

    • CalebT says:

dude i came here to say the same thing. every week when this comes up on the podcast feed it brightens my day.

  9. Anonymous says:

Please stop talking about PC games. Really. It’s as if you think people who play PC games only play simulators of some sort. You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about.

    • fuzz says:

Hehe, yeah I thought the same thing. All we ever play are fucking super complex sims that have you spend more time in menus than actual gameplay.

    • Gert says:

Simulators just work better on a pc then on a console.

    • Jose says:

I see your point, but I think they were only talking about games that would seem to fit in more with a “high tolerance” PC games oriented crowd than it would with console gamers: You know the hoops we jump through to game. We’re the kind of people who have plugged our USB KB/M into our consoles just to see how/if it works.

The PC is an open platform, which is one reason why there is so much variety in games on PC. That variety enables sim type games to be more common on the platform, while on consoles those type of games are more of an exception than the rule. Gran Turismo, Steel Battalion and that’s pretty much is all I got.

I construed the discussion to imply that PC gamers are highly educated if not a little obsessive.

While on the subject of games and gamer stereotypes, did everyone listen to Irrational Interviews with Ken Levine and Todd Howard? I know any media that comes from a developer/publisher is by nature propaganda, but it’s really fun and interesting propaganda.

      • fuzz says:

I just don’t like it when “PC” is used as an adjective to describe complexity. I game exclusively on a PC, and I play mostly the same multiplat games that comes to PS3 and 360 – On my TV, from my couch, with my wireless gamepad. I don’t see why I would suddenly only play Hearts of Iron games ’cause I’m on a PC. People have this preconceived notion of “this is where I do this type of gaming, and that’s where I do that type of gaming”, no! The PC can fucking do it all. Better.

        • Jose says:

Then just fuck off if you’re going to be a butthurt fanboy about it.

          • fuzz says:

            Hey, now…

            • Jose says:

Hey, just let it slide man. They don’t mean it as an insult is what I’m saying, and what’s more, I doubt you’ll ever change the minds of those who think that simulators don’t belong on consoles and only have a real shot at finding a market on PC. It just is what it is.

  10. Gert says:

    Rebel FM.

We should organize a TF2 match.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xq6mvCf-T8

  11. Anand says:

I totally agree with Robert on his Facebook-rant.

I actually deleted my facebook after using it for a couple of months. I noticed that facebook didn’t bring me anything except more superficial connections with people I hardly knew. And I can get why you want people form the past to find you but is that really necessary? I mean, the past is the past, you need to let things go.

People are getting lonelier but with this facebook they don’t realize it. They sit behind a machine and think that they are truly making friends and strengthening relationships when in reality their existing relationships become less and less human-relationships and more and more technological-relationships… What is best, a girlfriend that you chat for 5 hours with everyday but you never see her. Or a girlfriend that you can only see 1 hour a day but you make steaming love with during that time? The same can be said with friends. Real friends do real activities with eachother, not online substitutions…

Anyways, I can rant about this for days. In the end, it’s important to try to find people that you can be 100% honest with in real life. People that you can share your heart with. All the rest (facebook, msn, messaging, e-mail, even gaming) it’s all just a distraction. A fun distraction yes, but just a distraction.

    • Gert says:

I have email and that’s it.
If there’s something i should know urgently come talk to me in the meatspace or call/text me.

      On the total podcast.
It was great untill you responded on the “I’m dying withing 3 months” letter.

I’m ok with the guy asking for a last wish if the girl and her friend agrees. Otherwise that would be cheating. And that’s and absolute NO!

Sticking to moral and ethical values in the face of death is the most honorable thing to do. That is what makes (in my opinion) a hero, an example.

That will something no one will ever take from you, they may forget. It’s better to die free of guilt.

      • Lucas says:

Fuck you, it isn’t. Morals and ethics are constructs of society. There is nothing inherently wrong with sleeping around. Humans are not designed to be monogamous, theres a reason we have larger genitals compared to other primates/mammals.

The living can move on, the dead stay where they are, and when you try to guilt a dying man out of losing his virginity, thats just fucking wrong.

People like you make me sick.

        • Anand says:

If it’s just about the sex; He should just call an expensive hooker. Just get it over with. You’ll probably have the best sex you’ve ever had. I mean, they’re experienced, they know all the tricks and you don’t have to break any hearts.

        • Gert says:

Not everything nature designs is perfect.
Sleeping around and guilting a girl into having sex with you while the girls boyfriend doesn’t know is cheating.

I hate cheaters and traitors. If my girl did that without aking me if i’m ok with it i will drop her like a stone

          Traitors will hang.

      • SJS says:

He’s going to die, who cares? He may or may not be religious, but regardless, he just needs to do whatever he wants. Ooooh so she’s cheating, who gives a fuck? It won’t matter because he’ll be dead in a few months. Excuse the cheating for a change and throw ethics and morals out the goddamn window.

        • Gert says:

Well you know what if i’m dying i’ll go on a massive killing spree.

I’ll be the closest thing to satan you will ever see.

Hey its alright because i’ll be dead soon anyway.

          BULLSHIT!

          • Lucas says:

Strawman much? There are orders of magnitude between cheating and killing someone.

Could you fuck off with this shit? Your proselytizing gets old.

            • Gert says:

It’s the statement “You are going to die soon, do whatever you wan’t.” Moral an ethics is what makes the world around you a little more stable.

              • Lucas says:

You’re taking it out of context. He’s speaking in regards to having sex, not killing people. If people were more open and accepting about non monogamy the world would probably a much less stressful place.

    • Troubled_Merc says:

Just finished listening to the podcast, I know I’m late.

I wanted to chime-in on this because..well, why not.

I think the point of this was NOT to guilt her into having sex with him, but to at least fulfill not a dying man’s wish, but a man who has feeling for this girl and wants to explore those feeling before crossing over, it just so happens hes a virgin. To hire an escort to bang him makes sense, but the point is that he feels something deep for this girl..no pun indented.

He is not grabbing her by the throat, he is making an honest wish that he should take advantage of. Don’t we men AND WOMEN sometimes say it too…”I will kill to f**k (insert fantasy girl’s/boy’s name here)” or “before I die, I will f**k (insert fantasy girl’s/boy’s name here)”. Don’t bring her boyfriend into it and propose the “cheating” argument because he is not the main point here. Then again, I too was cheated on, so I am kinda bias. But just like Anthony said she probably feel better knowing she explored his fantasies before passing.

I’m not trying to sugar coat sex or have you view it in a differently, to me, sex is sex, but I’m trying to help make clear that, its more then just sex, from what I heard from the podcast. Who knows, maybe sex is all he wants, but I doubt it since he asked for this girl, and not some bimbo

  12. Big Pick Zel says:

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Now, I haven’t had a chance to listen yet, but I’m curious about one little thing before I get started– is there actually a song by Kristen Stuart and Dakota Fanning? Because, dude. Seriously? Is it like “Eating is Serious” by Chris Burke?

  13. Robert says:

Dude. I can totally rock morning wood. However, I /do/ have it pierced, so it looks badass.

  14. Nickel says:

Another amazing show guys! Every week, RFM continues to deeeelight. Although, thanks to this week’s discussion, the mental image of Bromley’s pasty body fucking people will forever haunt my dreams.

Next time I get a shadow-cock across the lawn I’ll totally give my lady a taste of the old coffee-grinder.

  15. Gert says:

Scott Bromley you scared the shit out of me talking about that mono and spleen rupture.

I started reading in wikipedia and next time i hear someone has mono i run for it 28 Days Later style.

I don’t know if i ever had mono and i hope i never will.
But goddamnit stories like that can drive a man to OCD cleaning habits.

  16. Jose says:

Just have to register the fact that I missed Tyler.

  17. Iceveiled says:

Well this should be interesting…..*buckles in and presses play*

  18. Lucas says:

To the guy with two months to live: Drop out of college, fuck anything with a pulse. Have some fun. Like arthur (?) said, now is not the time to be passive. Two months is a long time, you can accomplish more in that time if you set your mind to it than many people will in their life.

    • Anand says:

I could say so many things but most of them would be stupid. Ah whatever… I say, you can just do whatever you want but also cherish your family and friends. I think that’s the only advice I can give. I mean, sex is easy to get, just call an expensive hooker (escorte-lady?). But real love is something you should cherish… Even in the last minutes of your life. Good luck buddy.

  19. Kahitri says:

Well it’s a podcast, it’s hot (UK) and I’m outside, ah the joy of wireless… Just to throw it out there if you know about “Face.com” what’s your opinion about what it does?
    Thats anyone folks :¬)
(Personally I think it’s a tad too stalker friendly)

    Apart from that nice podcast

  20. Iceveiled says:

I hope you guys can fit Ashley in one more time before he moves out of Cali. :(

Oh, and great podcast. I LOL’d several times.

  21. Visor2040 says:

I’m really bothered by you guys bitching about a gay kid’s friends making misogynist remarks but not saying anything to a fucking drug dealer. The drugs he sells are not bad, he might not be bad himself but the people above him certainly are.

Mexico (the country I’m writing from) is going through some tough shit fueled (in part, I wont blame you for all of it) by your pot money and your guns. The death toll for 2010 alone is up to more than 5000 killed (and we’re only half-way through the year) and what that little twat is doing to get his useless ass some money and some pussy is directly contributing to each and every one of those deaths.

I remember listening to one of the older episodes when you mention something about the RFM t-shirts and how you care about the supplier not using sweat shops and things like that. Apparently you care about that and being politically correct but you don’t give a shit about the people in Mexico.

    • Lucas says:

Wouldn’t these deaths come more from major drug cartels, not small time high school dealers, and beyond that, from crack/cocaine, not pot.

      • Gert says:

The stuff that goes down in Mexico is fucked up.
I read some stories about the stuff the cartels do and it’s a miracle the US didn’t invade Mexico instead of Iraq.

      • Visor2040 says:

The most consumed illegal drug in the US is pot. So where are the cartels getting the most money from?

Their business works like a pyramid-scheme-thing. The top gets the most of the money generated in small quantities on the bottom.

Even if the kid never sees the big bosses that doesn’t mean the money he is making doesn’t get to them. Eight of the thirteen billion (yes, with a b) dollars made by the drug cartels in the US come from cannabis. Cocaine is about three and meth one.

To me that “small time high school dealer” is in part responsible for each and every one of the deaths that happen here (many times innocent people get killed alongside the intended targets) and it’s very disappointing to hear the RFM crew dismiss the fact that the kid is a drug dealer AND THEN go on and make a big deal of some idiots making comments about a girl’s ass.

        • Lucas says:

Because being a pot dealer doesn’t make him a bad person, where as chauvinistic remarks make someone an asshole. Theres a good chance he didn’t know most of this stuff, the school system hardly educated people on the actual damage of doing drugs.

Also: Dear god, the us needs to legalize drugs. So much of the violence only happens around them because they are illegal. I don’t see how people fail to draw connections between the “war” on drugs and prohibition in the 20′s and 30′s.

  22. Wince says:

I still love your podcast, but I found your reactions to the drug dealing letter to be surprising.

Arthur, do you actually endorse drug dealing? I assume you’re probably pro-legalization of marijuana, which I am too, but I do not support someone knowingly breaking the current laws. Your responses were fairly aloof and humorous, so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt in this regard.

I’m also curious about your random knock at the “dick” police officers is Davis. As a Northern California native, I do know the area in question quite well. While I have no specific experience with the city police in Davis, I don’t see how calling them “dicks” was in any way necessary. What do you mean? Should the letter writer “watch out” for them because they would do their job by arresting or citing him due to drug possession (misdemeanor)or selling it (felony) should he be caught? Does this mean they’re “dicks,” or are you implying something more nefarious or against standard police procedure, a claim that is slanderous and irresponsible on your part?

Full disclosure, my brother is a CHP and I am completely biased in favor of Law Enforcement, a mindset that I acknowledge is not always right.

In any case, keep up the good work!

  23. aListener says:

The cast had an awesome cast. Funniest episode yet.

[Street Fighter II announcer voice] You win! [/Street Fighter II announcer voice]

  24. james says:

Up there with the best podcast I’ve heard. Great show.

    All the best Robert.

  25. Jose says:

Oh, and I guess I HAVE to say something bad about Robert Ashley: Dude, if you don’t know what the fuck a word means, don’t use it, no matter in whose music video you once heard it spoken, you dumb Caucasoid :)

    • Lucas says:

Mongoloid used to refer to someone with downs in a less PC age.

      • Jose says:

It is also used by some to describe one of three races. This use predates the use as a slur to people with downs, which should give one a bit more pause before using the term as an epithet, if at all.

        • jono says:

I suppose with this logic, we should only use the original meanings for words, if at all. If I refer to my gay friend, I should only be specifically referring to my happy friend as opposed to the sad homosexual one.

          • Lucas says:

Its an offensive term that shouldn’t be used, I was just pointing out why he might be using it.

          • Jose says:

No, it’s more like using the word fag if you’re not British. It’s not part of our American culture as anything other than as a disparagement to gays, or to insult someone by likening them to homosexuals. I’ll just say, like fag, or retard, or any number of slurs, their use shows ignorance and little more.

  26. GDW says:

Great episode as always guys, really loved having most of the GameSpy Debriefings crew, as well as Mr. Chillus Maximus, join in on this one! Really brought out the “lols” tonight. heh

Also, just to throw out my own advice concerning the dying letter (presuming he reads the comments), I just want to say that just make sure to hold true to your personal (note: personal) beliefs and convictions. I know the guys were telling you to go hog wild, but I’m sure they meant that you shouldn’t let your inhibitions keep you from doing the things YOU wanted to do in life (as in the things you wanted to do eventually, dying or healthy). You only get one chance to permanently define who you are as a person, both to yourself and those around you. Don’t throw away who you are just because Death and you are in a staring contest and you’re about to blink.

As per your virginity, hell yeah you should tell everyone you ever had even a remote tingle for. Just don’t make it sound like you’re intentionally laying a guilt trip on them! Instead, use your situation as the explanation AND reason for your sudden request. That way they don’t feel like they’re being dogged into a corner, cause it ain’t fair to them and it ain’t fair to your character. If they say “no” the only thing out of your mouth should be, “are you sure?” and whatever their response may be afterwards you should end it with, “thanks for hearing me out, you don’t know how much it means to me!”

At the end of the day (in a couple months) you’re going to be able to just lay back and say, “yep, I’m done here.” But just because you die doesn’t mean your decisions and their repercussions disappear. Everyone else still has to live life, keep on marching to the beat. So, live life well man, don’t go all Scorched Earth during your remaining time on earth! I’ve been there too man! Was paralyzed as a baby for a few months, never thought I’d walk, but I did. Later on in life I had surgery done, got Staff Infection from it and nearly died a week later in some dinky hospital room with no chances of goodbyes or last minute accomplishments.

So, just don’t lose yourself man. Cause it’s just gonna come back to haunt you on your death bed!

Anyways, good luck with your 5 steps or w/e and end it the right way :) !

  27. Darkstar says:

Robert Ashley was charming as usual, but Christ, those other guys came off like complete assholes. One of the reasons I tune into Rebel FM is because you guys seem like genuinely nice guys. Next time leave the chauvinistic, chest thumping, frat boys at home. Women are not pussy life support systems — the faster your listeners realize this, the more luck they will have.

    • qrter says:

It’s the Scott Bromley Effect, I’m afraid, bringing the embarrassing fratboy bullshit to every podcast he appears on.

      • Lucas says:

To be fair, if a woman falls for the shit with the six figure balance trick, then she deserves what she gets for being so shallow.

    • Chris says:

“Next time leave the chauvinistic, chest thumping, frat boys at home.”

      I totally agree.

  28. Nionanmalop says:

I posted this question for the last episode but I guess I was a little slow.

Okay so this might be an odd question that has been answered but what happened to Game Club? I don’t think I’ve heard anything on the regular podcast it just seems to have disappeared. I understand that with everyone actually having jobs they may not have time to play the games but some kind of official “we’re done” statement would have been nice.

    • Helen C says:

From Arthur in the comments few weeks ago:

“Game Club got pretty solidly derailed by a combination of things, and at this point, we don’t really know what’s going to happen with it. We all love doing it, but it’s an additional 6-8 hour commitment a week, so it’s complicated. I’m sorry we haven’t been more forthcoming, but at this point, you know what we know.”

  29. Feanor says:

Saying “NeoGAF” thinks Alpha Protocol is better than Mass Effect 2 is as disingenuous as someone saying “videogame reviewers” think Transformers is a 9/10 game. In both cases, only a small percentage of the people in those groups hold such an extreme opinion.

If anyone’s interested in how the errors in the GameSpot review of Transformers came to be officially edited, look here.

  30. WayneR says:

How many of my favorite podcasts will Scott Bromley debase!? Okay, he was relatively tame this time and I appreciated his first opinion about teenagers and sex (which was later overwritten when he started talking about having a bunch of random sex), but jeez, the fratboy talk is annoying.

And to Arthur, can you not acknowledge letters about someone who admits to selling drugs? That type of letter can easily lead to an increase in fake letters being sent on so someone can get a reaction out of you on the podcast. I guess some fans of the podcast may enjoy it but I find it annoying. “I’m a drug dealer, do you think I’m a prostitute for trying to get sex from this girl?” Is what I got out of that question.

I know, free podcast and I don’t have to listen, but I would rather not drop Rebel FM from my listening queue because I like the Arthur, Anthony, Tyler, Matt, and Ryan rotation.

  31. DrJonez says:

Bromley and Robert Ashley on the same podcast together, and it was way more tame than I was hoping for. Robert didn’t go out with much of a bang at all :(

  32. j prince says:

Is Scott Bromley on a bet to see how many times during the podcast he can mention how hot he thinks his girlfriend is?

I’m happy that he is able to use the phrase “I have a hot girlfriend” to provide himself with a life affirming activity, just would have been nicer for all concerned if he could have avoided doing so on this podcast.

As for Robert Ashley, always leave the crowd wanting more.

  33. Carl Nelson says:

Only lasted 25 minutes into this episode. Too many people trying to be “funny”

  34. Isaiah says:

I feel away about Bobbito’s Facebook rant, but that’s his prerogative. Not everybody uses Facebook, Twitter or even e-mail for the same reasons. Also…no one uses one thing one way over extended periods of time, but hey…that’s just my opinion. And yes…I am an asshole.

  35. Isaiah says:

Also…more Devin The Dude for homeboy dyin’ and trying to get his pimpin’ up before death’s sweet embrace.

I think we all appreciate you writing in to Rebel FM and sharing your unique tale and man…really…live your life. But if you need help…let Devin the Dude show you how:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_-EEuTz4bs

  36. Sphinx says:

So guys I love the show Arthur you are the shit man, main reason I listen to the show. Just a word of advice: When people are talking about Texas and how shitty the people here are just tell them to move to Austin. Its great here, I have lived in California, Washington and Arizona and I find Austin to be a great liberal city. Dont go to the suburbs but the city its self is fantastic!!! Keep up the great work.

    Sphinx

  37. Helen C says:

Arthur, I remember you said the first Mass Effect book was alright, but I don’t think you said anything about the other ones. Is that because they weren’t so good or did you not read them? Has anybody?

    • CodyH says:

The Second one is okay. Not as good as the first, most because it doesn’t have any major characters outside of the Illusive Man that we know. I mean you do hear about small characters from the games in the books but. But if you’re a of fan of the universe then I’d go for it. Third one comes out at the end of this month and is after ME2 with the Illusive Man and one of the main characters from the second book.

But really for Video Game fiction books I’ve read all the Halo and ME books and I got enjoyment out of them because I was a big fan of the Universe and wanted to read more about it. Plus as Sci-Fi fiction they aren’t the best but their good enough to kill some time with imo.

      • Lucas says:

Why would you spend your reading time with them when theres so much sci-fi of such a higher caliber out there. It just seems pointless.

        • CodyH says:

I explained it, I like the universe of both series so I would like to know more about it by reading them. I know there is much better stuff out there.

          • Helen C says:

            Thanks Cody.

I have a drawer full of “better” reading, but sometimes you need something that you don’t have to pay much attention to for on the bus, or as a palate cleanser (the last thing I read was 1984). At the very least I’ll appreciate the classics more when I get to them.

  38. Adam says:

    Hey Guys,

In response to the letter about water conservation, I almost exclusively piss in the sink at home. I did this while very tired one evening, and realized that it saves a great deal of aiming hassle due to the elevated nature of the the receptacle.

When I put the question (in a deviously hypothetical manner) of its permissibility to my girlfriend, she mentioned that girls tend to use a full sink bowl to wash their face. I guess I’ll have to stop when we moves in, out of respect for her visage.

  39. Naota_391 says:

Motherfuckers, I LOVE peeing outside. I don’t know what it is, but I avoid toilets for my urination needs every chance I get.

When I see a big stretch of grass? Oh, man. Who needs waterfalls?

  40. Naota_391 says:

By the way, Scott Bromley is funny. He’s incredibly funny. But he’s also a terrible person. I mean, from the things that I hear come out of his mouth and molest my ear drums, that’s the idea I get.

Just throwing that out there on the table.

  41. Ragenaut says:

Not to be the nerdy pc guy that has to correct everyone for menial mistakes, but… ArmA II came out last year, the first ArmA came out back in 2007. The game that your offices just got in was the standalone expansion for AmrA II entiled ArmA II: Operation Arrowhead that takes the eaction from forested areas to a desert nation based on Afghanistan and the conflict there.

I also do not play ArmA >_>

  42. Ragenaut says:

I hate to the nerdy pc gamer that has to correct you guys on a menial thing, but ArmA II came out last year. ArmA came out back in 2007 and the game you just got in at the office was ArmA II’s standalone expansion pack.

    I don’t even play ArmA >_>

  43. Ragenaut says:

I just posted the same thing twice because I thought it didn’t go through the first time. Fuck.

  44. CallMeSarge says:

Fucking Awesome show – one of the best yet. Bromley/Altano/Bobbito is one of the best guest slots you have had yet, although I too did find myself thinking “WHERE IS TYLER BARBER AT?”.

Respect for reading that last letter, it took balls to read and comment on, and I hope everything works out for the dude in question. It is thought provoking shit.

Question: If Anthony does not drink, why does he keep so much moonshine around?

Can I second a request for one more Dr Bobbito Max Chill appearance before he leaves (if possible)?

  45. Vasectomy says:

You guys need to get Robert on for one more podcast before he makes the move. You should do a full middle segment with him discussing what he touched upon about people not being able to leave facebook/twitter/cell phones alone for any period of time. It drives me nuts when im out with people and they spend half the time on their phone texting or on facebook.

  46. technoKyle says:

Guys, I’m an hour and forty minutes into this week’s show and the banter is hilarious. Keep up the sterling work, gents.

  47. Iceveiled says:

Comment for the guy aspiring to piss in the sink. That’s taking water conservation a bit too far. Do this instead. Put a fucking brick in the tank of your toilet. It’s that much less space for water to occupy.

Also Anthony recommended peeing outside. I would not recommend that. If a cop happens to spot you WILL be arrested, and a public indecency/urination charge is serious business. You have to register as a sex offender. In other words you were just pissing outdoors but now you’re clumped up with the same people who fuck little boys and rape women.

    • Jose says:

Oh dear lord, please use the brick method. Also because any sage advice gleaned from Home Improvement should be disseminated at every possibly opportunity.

      • Iceveiled says:

Actually my science teacher taught me that in like 8th grade.

        • Jose says:

Well Home Improvement taught me when I was in 5th :P

          • Lucas says:

            What is this brick method?

            • Jose says:

You can open your tank and put in a few bricks to replace a couple gallons of water. You can use water filled bottles, but I wouldn’t want anything floating around inside the tank, so that’s why they suggest just using bricks. You’re going to have to fine tune it if your toilet needs are more bowel specific if you want to save water.

I just say “fuck you, lawn” and don’t water it. My neighbors hate me.

  48. Massa says:

Arthur and others have said on more than one episode that Sony doesn’t seem to know what they’re doing with Move and I don’t get that. I mean, you might not be interested in the device but that particular criticism says more and I don’t see the justification behind it.

It seems clear to me Sony’s pushing two things for Move: it’s simple and easy to use by people with no gaming experience and it’s also precise and good for core games, better than the Dual Shock for some games even.

I found it interesting that in a recent interview with Joystiq Shuhei Yoshida said that they not only want to make accessible social/party games for the PS3, as you’d expect, but also make core games more accessible. Don’t you find it interesting that more people might be able to play games like Uncharted and Heavy Rain just as naturally as they play bowling or tennis on the Wii?

Broadening the audience for what’s considered “good” games instead of just opening the doors for Microsoft’s versions of Wii shovelware like Kinect’s first party line-up seems *much* more interesting to me. This industry certainly needs to find a way to get more people playing these core games otherwise there’s no way to sustain the constant increase in costs.

Anyway, that’s my rant for this week. :p

    • Sean says:

this is the last podcast you should be coming to for positive Sony discussion.

at this point, i’m just convinced that someone Japanese did something terrible to Arthur as a young boy.

  49. Iceveiled says:

Yeah Sony doesn’t know what they’re doing with move, but Microsoft does ripping off the eye toy, which has been around since the PS2 days.

I don’t want to point the fanboy finger but….

  50. Maverick356 says:

I definitly think you guys should play Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. Its truly an awesome game.

  51. Akira'sCrow says:

I Love this podcast but I have to say, I don’t want to but my hand has been forced, Arthur is now completly and totaly Microsoft’s Shane Bettenhausen. Arthur I love you, but you’re exactly like Shane. You love games, all kinds of games, but you are so clearly in one camp. Your constant defense of everything Microsoft (especially Kinect; come on, Kinect and Move both look like shit) and refusal to fathom that anything Sony does is worthwhile (e.g. Move, PSN [not Plus, that is a joke and I hope it crashes to Earth like a fucking dart], Heavy Rain, God of War 3, no decent PS2 exclusives by western developers [Mark of Kri, God of War 1&2, Socom, Sly Cooper, Twisted Metal Black], etc.) These last two weeks you have actually argued with people who have positive things to say concerning Sony. I know you love videogames, and no, I don’t think you are bought, but you are starting to alienate some of your audience. I don’t envoke Shane as a pejorative. He loves games too and has an encyclopedic knowledge of them, but the way you feel about him and his almost blind devotion and faith in Sony in his 1up days, is what you have become on Rebel FM. Make of that what you will. Cheers.

    • Akira'sCrow says:

…and I spelled invoke wrong. Yay for me, I’m a moron.

    • Aegies says:

I realize that the message board position at this point is “lawl kinect”, but, to put it simply, they’re wrong on this one. Yes, I think Move continues to be aimless. If you took a step back and looked objectively, it’d become clearer that they’re flailing around looking for a direction for it. “We need it in hardcore games!” “Wait, no, we need Wii ports!” “Hey look, 3D guys!” Move isn’t adding anything to the equation; it’s an experience that’s been done before, and a small step upward in fidelity isn’t going to get the hardcore into it any more than they already aren’t. I get that the hardcore feel less threatened by Move; Sony is throwing it into everything along with normal controller support. But that isn’t going to change anything. SOCOM with waggle isn’t going to bring anyone new to the PS3, and you aren’t going to fucking play it that way.

Meanwhile, Kinect is clearly something completely different, and it scares the shit out of the hardcore. To be blunt, the only thing I saw of Kinect that I wanted anything from is Child of Eden. Otherwise, there’s nothing there for me. But I’m fine with that, because Kinect isn’t invading existing shit I’m interested in. It’s a fork in the Xbox 360′s approach, and if you were paying attention, you’d see that Microsoft was much more interested in telling you about their Crytek exclusive and COD DLC timed exclusivity than about Kinectimals. They have you. They want to keep you. But they’re going after someone else as well with Kinect, and they aren’t fucking around throwing it into existing product in a really weak attempt to sell every game to everyone. And yes, flat out, I think Kinect is going to be huge this fall. I think the public is going to see it and go crazy for it as something they’ve never seen before, and they’re going to see Move and see the Wii all over again, and I really don’t think anyone is interested in buying a 300 dollar Wii.

As for this year’s Sony exclusives, you have a pretty selective memory. No one on the podcast felt particularly enthusiastic about God of War 3, including SUPERFAN Robert Ashley. I played a couple of hours of heavy rain and just wasn’t interested. As for your “big western exclusives” bullshit, that question came up with regards to worth-owning Xbox games from last gen. Sly Cooper I actually am interested in, Twisted Metal could die in a fire, and Black is totally over-rated.

You are whiny and can’t handle criticism of what you’ve clearly indicated as your console of choice. That’s not my problem. As for the 360, I’ve gone on record repeatedly over the last year saying I don’t think they have any direction in their hardcore offerings, specifically their first-party games, and I’ve said that Crackdown 2 was kind of weak. So fuck you.

And as for the Eye-toy comparisons with Kinect, that’s a pretty pathetic reductive argument. And even if it were true, Sony never demonstrated a goal with Eye-toy. It flailed around and disappeared. Similarly to the way Sony flailed around with the PS3 for the first 3 years of its lifespan.

      • iceveiled says:

        Wow. Defensive much?

“You are whiny and can’t handle criticism”

        Pot, meet kettle.

I love you man, but Jesus, don’t be such an asshole to your fans.

      • Wince says:

He’s defensive and can’t handle criticism? Huh.

      • Massa says:

“SOCOM with waggle isn’t going to bring anyone new to the PS3, and you aren’t going to fucking play it that way. ”

There’s so much wrong with that sentence.

Greg Miller at IGN disagrees with you – he will play SOCOM 4 with Move:
“I’m going to play SOCOM 4. Seeing as how I’m in charge of IGN’s PlayStation coverage, that shouldn’t be a shocker, but what is surprising — to me at least — is that I’m going to play it with the PlayStation Move. By choice. ”

The people at Gamespot also seemed impressed:
“In the past, the PC mouse versus console controller has sharply divided the shooter community in terms of effectiveness. Perhaps, in a few years, that debate might change to mouse vs. Move? ”

Most importantly people don’t waggle the controller to play SOCOM 4. SOCOM with Move plays with a nunchuk that doesn’t support motion controls and uses aiming with the right hand similarly to how you aim with a mouse (pointer on screen and no dead zones).

Sony’s idea with Move is to improve the controller interface for games, making it better and more accessible. They don’t make a distinction between party/social games and core games. Microsoft only started making the distinction for Kinect somewhere between E309, when they brought Spielberg and Milo to promise a revolution in how people interact with games, and E310, when they delivered Wii shovelware with body waggling.

Sony may or may not be successful in delivering a product that does what they plan, and they may or may not be successful in the market place. That doesn’t make the device “aimless” or without direction; they have a pretty clear goal for they want, which in your opinion is misguided.

Same as Microsoft’s line-up last year. It was pretty empty (Halo RTS, Halo 3 expansion and Forza), but that doesn’t mean “without direction”. That’s the direction they chose when they closed more studios than they opened in the last few years. Again, just because you’re not happy with the direction of a company doesn’t mean they’re aimless.

As for EyeToy, it’s much more popular than you give it credit for. It had 49 games and sold over 10 million units worldwide. Sony just never dedicated an E3 to those games, but the prodct was very successful, particularly in Europe. If Kinect sells as many units I’ll be extremely surprised.

And about the bias accusation that made you tell a guy to fuck himself: do you stand by your comment on RebelFM about Shane Bettenhousen being a Sony fanboy? If that comment wasn’t offensive then AkiraCrow’s wasn’t either.

There’s nothing wrong with having a preference for a console and it seems natural to me a person would tend to agree more with the decisions made by the company that made that console. For example, your comment about Sony flailing around with the PS3 for 3 years may sound perfectly fine to you but it makes absolutely no sense to me.

  52. Ryan says:

Very disturbing podcast, more so than usual

  53. Sam says:

Hey, love the podcast. Was wondering, why is it I’ll see a comment one minute, then gone the next? You guys remove comments you don’t agree with?

  54. Mike B says:

WTF quicktime really? Its POS codec, its on the tard section of the PC spectrum.

  55. The Warden says:

Time wasted on MORE Transformers talk? Arthur giving away the name (and identity) of the guy who ate the cannabis cookie?

Honestly cannot understand why Arthur doesn’t bleep such dumbass statements like on today’s show. You’d think a guest on your podcast would at least not be called out for actions in such a professional line of work. Sorry if this comes across as negative but really, post-editing would have corrected this slip of the tongue.

  56. If you drink the evening a few drinks, vodka, or you have a hangover today … It is better to try moonshine head does not hurt and do not have a hangover…

  57. Wonderful beat ! I would like to apprentice while you amend your website, how could i subscribe for a blog website? The account aided me a acceptable deal. I had been a little bit acquainted of this your broadcast provided bright clear concept

But imagine if you added some great graphics or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with images and videos, this blog could definitely be one of the most beneficial in its niche. Great blog!
