Xbox 360 Price Drop: Super-Confirmed.

Tuesday, August 7th, 2007

It’s Official. Microsoft has owned up and admitted the price drop of all the Xbox 360 consoles. Just like we speculated here, the Elite model will be $449, the Premium will be $349 and the “Geeky and unpopular” Core model will be $279. It isn’t the $100 price drop that we all had horny dreams of. But in Microsoft’s press statement, they don’t seem to worried.

“The fact that we have been able to keep our launch price longer than
any other console while retaining our leadership position demonstrates that
consumers believe in the value of Xbox 360,” said Mitch Koch, corporate
vice president, Global Retail Sales and Marketing Group, Entertainment and
Devices Division at Microsoft. “On the eve of the best holiday games lineup
ever and the launch of ‘Madden NFL 08,’ there has never been a better time
to jump into Xbox 360.”

Syncing up the price drop to coincide with the Madden release is a smart move, considering how people gravitate towards all new Madden versions like a crack head to, uh, you know, crack. The Halo-themed Xbox 360 was also priced for a September release at $399. That extra fifty bucks will get you the green and gold “weirdness” and an HDMI port, for those sick of matching color to Component color. This could be considered the first volley of arrows in this latest console war engagement. But if Nintendo starts dropping prices it would be less a war and more nuclear A bomb assault.

Xbox 360 HD-DVD price drop in the wild…

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Joystiq said some ramblings, but I have the first hand scoop on the 360 HD-DVD price drop. I knew that a drop was coming Aug. 1st for 179.99.However, I looked online at Bestbuy.com and it was saying that it was 149.99. It was sold out online so I went to Bestbuy today and, sure enough, the tag was 149.99. But when I went to the check out it rang up at 179.99! I rose my hand like a school kid and said, politely, that the tag said another story. The clerk called somebody hidden in the back and I won. I walked out of Bestbuy with a 360 HD-DVD player and a copy of 300 in HD-DVD for less than two hundred bones. I even took a picture! Whether the $50 price drop will hold or not is debatable, but if you’ve been sitting on the fence about the add-on, get off the fence, yo. Money is out there to be saved.
