If you don’t remember I actually wrote about my first impressions with the xbox 360 racing wheel awhile back. And I wrote that I felt that it was only good for those who really liked racing games.
My opinion has changed since then.
Microsoft announced on 052507 that the wheel would be receiving a 20$ price drop. This is great since the wheel was previously 150$! Even if you love racing games this probably put a significant hit in your cash flow, so it’s nice to see the change.
But even with the price drop is the wheel worth it?
The short answer to the above question is: maybe. After spending more time with the wheel and playing Project Gotham Racing 3 (which the unit comes with), I have found that the wheel becomes much easier to get used to. A lot of the frustration I vented in my first impressions was valid, in that it was was infuriating to suck at a game I knew I could play easily with the standard controller, but ultimately I have come to love the wheel. The wheel provides much more immersion and gives you significantly more satisfaction at achieving the same things you could ace with the controller.
So yeah, if you are interested in racing games and have the cash to burn I strongly suggest the wheel now. The force feedback is great and makes you feel all the bumps and grooves of the course. And, since Forza 2 is coming out so soon you might as well pick that up as well. Hit me up for a race sometime.
