Star Wars MMO reboot?

Thursday, November 1st, 2007

Rumors are always flying around the internet. Hell, I try quite hard to not even pay attention to most of them. However, when someone throws the words “rumor” and “star wars” into the same sentence, I can hardly look away.

1up news editor Patrick Klepek has built quite the case for a Bioware Star Wars MMO. In his report he details how Bioware has been working on an MMO for quite some time. Moreover, Bioware has been working on this MMO in Austin, Texas, where SOE is located. Combine that with the press release that LucasArts and Bioware are working on an “interactive entertainment product,” and you start to see the possibilities.

I mean, I guess that the company could just be working on KOTOR 3, but why would they have such a secretish press release? I think that the MMO idea is sound and that they won’t let news on the game slip until they have a solid trailer to show.

Let me say that I am surprisingly excited about the prospects of this. As I have detailed to Arthur and friends, I have grand ambitions to play an Ewok pirate. Heck, I have even picked out a callsign for my Z-95 headhunter: FuzzleBunny1. Yeah, I know, Ewok pirate–har, har. You won’t be laughing when an eyepatched fuzzball blows you out of the sky.

The Force (Un)leashed to Hit Wii

Tuesday, September 18th, 2007

It may sound crazy, but I for one am not crazy about the Wii remote being used as a lightsaber. Don’t get me wrong, I am a rabid Star Wars fan. But, while my fandom makes me lust after any game with the name Star Wars attached, I am seriously skeptical about the announcement of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, for Nintendo Wii.

Now again, don’t get me wrong, I am not an anti-Nintendo person. I was there day one, at midnight, to purchase my Wii. I currently own 20+ DS games. Me and Nintendo spend a long time together. So, as you can see, I do love me some Nintendo products.

But the idea of The Force Unleashed hitting the Wii — a system which pales technologically to the other current gen systems — strikes me as a bad decision. So much of The Force Unleashed is going to be about physics and how the game looks. I mean, you’re using the force, after all. The Wii is not a terrible system, I just don’t think the game is going to be very good –in comparison with the other versions of the game — if it has a sub-par physics and graphics.

As for lightsaber fighting, I am again skeptical. While I think a game where the development team focused entirely on the one-to-one sword fighting motion controls that we all dream about could be good, I am predicting that The Force Unleashed Wii lightsaber controls will come down to little more than waggle.

I know this is will probably seem overly critical, and I hope that LucasArts makes me eat my fucking Wii remote.
