Interconnectivity is a good thing

Tuesday, December 18th, 2007

Sony has just released new PSP and PS3 firmware. For PS3 owners, this means that you will finally be able to play DivX movies on your system. PSP owners get an even cooler feature though: remote play of PS1 games from any wireless connection. PSP owners can now turn on their PS3 remotely and access any backwards compatible PS1 game. The only problem? PS1 games are hardly on the Sony Store at this point.

I love the idea behind this feature but it is definitely cheapened by Sony’s lack of software selection. I would have preferred that Sony bulk up the Sony Store’s inventory before releasing firmware that is awesome to see, but almost useless at this point.

For Christmas, I wish Sony would give me the ability to rip PS1 games onto my PS3’s hard drive, enabling me to make better use of my new found PS3/PSP love affair.

Nintendo: We’re not making near as much money as we could be!

Friday, December 14th, 2007

I think Jay-Z said it best. Mo’ Money. Mo’ Problems. Didn’t Jay-Z say that? I don’t keep up with you kids. From Nextgen:

Nintendo sold 981,000 Wii units in the US during November according to the NPD Group, but according to James Lin, senior analyst at the MDB Capital Group in Santa Monica, Calif., “they could easily sell double what they’re selling.” Along with other industry analysts and retailers, Lin believes Nintendo could be set to lose out on more than $1billion this holiday, not including missed revenue opportunities from associated software sales that won’t materialize.

Man. That sucks for Nintendo. They could be taking over the world, but because they can’t make enough systems (wink, wink) they won’t make nearly as much money as they could be. So sad! Hang on. Where’s my tissue? For all you people looking for a Wii, head to Bestbuy and grab the one I won’t be buying. Its waiting on you.

Act-ard screws the people

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Activision is pressuring Sony from releasing a patch that would allow Guitar Hero III controllers to work with EA’s Rock Band for PS3.

The average consumer isn’t going to understand why two controllers for the same system, with the same button layout, dont work with two games that have them functioning in the exact same way. Activision is essentially forcing people to buy two of their guitars to play the game instead of allowing people to buy both the GH III bundle and Rock Band bundles, giving them a total of two guitars. Supposedly Activision offered to work with EA to come to an aggreement, aka. “pay us money,” to which EA declined.

In the end the only one that suffers is the consumer.

We end the podcast with a bit more structure though, as Aegies takes us through the happenings of the video game news world. Enjoy.
