Another piece of evidence that the Wii is not only taking over the world, but consuming it and pooping out a different thing all together, Rocketboom reported Wednesday on “Wii-meldon”. I’m pretty sure that’s spilled right. A bar in BROOKLYN! (you have to scream it) held a Wii Tennis tournament. Dressed in everything from Tennis outfits to a bear custom, Wii fans spent an afternoon drinking beer and battling with the Wiimote. The winner of the tournament received a Wii, to further spread Nintendo’s dominance. Hard Core gamers have known the sheer joy of lan parties for years. But is the rest of the world ready for weekend nights spent in groups at a friends house, trying to figure out router connections and proper television set ups? The World written by Wii continues. Thursday, June 28th, 2007Oh REALLY? New Confirmed Nintendo First Party Releases
Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007Nintendo’s commander-in-chief Reggie Fils-Aime officially announced yesterday that Nintendo would be releasing at least three major first party releases before the end of 2007 (in addition to the Fall release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. According to Fils-Aime Nintendo will have released Super Smash Bros: Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, and The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hour Glass before the end of the year.
This comes as great news to the many Wii owners who are simply buying virtual console games because there hasn’t been any great games released lately. While it still bothers me that within the first year of the console’s life I feel like the only games really worth buying after launch are first party, it does give me hope that I won’t have a reason to continue to feel the Wii-regret that strikes my heart every time I see my little white dust box. Don’t get me wrong, I loved WarioWare: SmoothMoves as much as the next person but it is a little played out for me. I want my Wii to be more than a mini-game machine. I want compelling single player experiences god dammit!
Whew. Sorry about that…it’s hot and I guess i’m a little anxious at the prospect of having some great games to play for the Wii soon. Until the fall, where I shall inevitably be eating poorly to support my gaming addiction, I’ll have to content myself with Mario Party 8 (curse you mini games!!!!!).
